New Release - The Wizard's Spellbook (Labyrinth Lord / Lulu POD)

+James Spahn is probably best known these days for White Star and his White Box releases for Swords & Wizardry, but many will remember he was also a skilled and prolific writer of Labyrinth Lord releases.

Well, James just added another notch to his Labyrinth Lord belt, The Wizard's Spellbook.
Arcane Incantations at Your Fingertips!
The Wizard's Spellbook compiles all the magic-user spells from Labyrinth Lord and the Advanced Edition Companion into a single digest-sized tome so you won't have to waste time searching for the right one! Compact and compact, this practical product will help take the hassle out of playing a magic-user in Labyrinth Lord or any other B/X RPG.
A complete spell list organized by level, with each level of spells broken down alphabetically for easy reference. Included in the spell list are notes on whether a spell is reversible and check boxes to mark whether your character knows a given spell or has it memorized that day. In addition, the list notes whether the spell is Basic, making it equally useful for players who are not using the Advanced Edition Companion.
The complete spell description of every single spell found in Labyrinth Lord Revised Revised and the Advanced Edition Companion.
Optional rules for including Cantrips into your Labyrinth Lord or B/X game.
All that for $4.99 in print. 82 softcover pages.

Disclaimer: James is a good friend of mine. I sent him the copy of Swords & Wizardry Complete that started his transformation. I think this release is super cheap and I'm grabbing it for myself and I don't even play Labyrinth Lord these days.

Bundle of Holding - Old School Revival +2

This is, admittedly, a very nice collection of OSR gaming in the latest Bundle of Holding:

Dyson's Delves I contains a campaign worth of adventures and maps. You literally would need nothing else but your choice of rules and some dice.

Labyrinth Lord and the Advanced Edition Companion - these are the versions with art. It's B/X D&D with some AD&D added in with the AEC.

People of the Pit - an adventure published by Brave Halfing. I don't know enough to talk about it really.

Death Frost Doom 2e - I enjoyed reading the first edition, although I never ran it. Haven't really looked at the update.

Lesserton & Mor - I found it very reminiscent to the classics Pavis and Big Rubble for the Chaosium edition of RuneQuest, which is a very good thing, as I played the shit out of that.

River Knife Trilogy - Includes Evil Wizards in a Cave, which I have heard of, but never actually read.

Scarlet Heroes - looking for some one on one or perhaps two on one gaming? can't put together a full group? This s the system for you. +Kevin Crawford did an amazing job with this set of rules.

Has "Appendix N" Gone Retail Before Shipping to the Majority of it's Kickstarter Supporters?

Hardly a week goes by without getting an email from someone asking me if I know the current status of the Appendix N Kickstarter - everyone wants to know when they are going to get their goods, and since I got mine three months ago, I must have some inside knowledge.

Here's the simple answer - I have no inside knowledge. But I do listen and I do read.

The last update on the Appendix N Kickstarter indicated the hope to get everything to everyone before the end of the year. Which would mean some folks would be getting theirs six months after I got mine.

Nowhere did it mention that Appendix N releases were being released to the general public before getting into the hands of those that supported the Kickstarter. It's been brought to my attention that the Appendix N releases are hitting retail distribution, like NOW. Is it possible that someone miscoded an entry? Sure - but at multiple locations?

Here's the direct links:

http://paizo.com/products/btpy8twu?Appendix-N-Adventures-The-Ruins-of-Ramat-and-the-Vile-Worm

http://www.frpgames.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=87453#.Ukhq64akoz4

http://www.gamekastle.com/index.php?m=product_detail&k=2&p=87453

http://www.gtsdistribution.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=5211CE4AF79642BF87A231A8AE01DFD6

Now, as a community, we've bitched and complained when Kickstarters have shipped to retail before landing in the hands of those that supported the project. This might be a distributor screw up - but if folks can make a purchase and receive product before those that supported the Appendix N Kickstarter (especially those that kicked in extra for shipping after the fact) then there is a real problem here.

The Paizo link actually cost $11.01. I just ordered a set (shipping hurt but what the heck). When I get my Paizo copies, I'll post a pic. Hopefully folks will have pics of their Kickstarter copies to post before then.

Mini Review - The Treacherous Cobtraps (DCC Adventure)

The Treacherous Cobtraps is a level 2 Appendix N Series DCC RPG adventure. The PDF version comes with both a DCC RPG stated adventure and a systemeless adventure for easy plugging into any other fantasy RPG.

So, what do you get for your $2.95?

A short adventure with nice atmosphere, but unless your party is a small one,  numbers alone will easily win the day. This is something you pull out when half the group can't make the session, because it will probably play out way too quickly and with little actual danger to the party with a full group.

It introduces two new magic items, one of which has further adventure potential.

The map is gorgeous. If there is one thing Brave Halfling is making a name for itself with is the maps accompanying the Appendix N series - they rival Goodman Games offerings at times, and that is a high target to match.

From the blurb:

The folk of the borderland shun the great strands of tamarack trees that lie at the southern edge of the stagnant marsh. Some tell of scuttling sounds and far-off cries that suddenly go silent. Others speak of ghostly-green, shifitng lights that bob and weave amongst the choked, tangled evergreens. Two nights ago in the halfling thorp of Brandy Hollow, a young shepherd boy and several sheep went missing. Leaders from Brandy Hollow approach the characters in desperation and offer them 100 gold coins each in exchange for cleasing the Taramack Weald of whatever evil must dwell therein.

Mini Review - The Witch of Wydfield (0 Level DCC RPG Adventure)

Brave Halfling has released four Appendix N mini adventures for the DCC RPG at this point. The Witch of Wydfield is the fourth in the series and the third I've reviewed.

First things first. The map is simply gorgeous. Suitable for framing for sure. Probably useless for actually running the adventure (and it can truly been run mapless) as it is a bit confusing but great eye candy.  Looking forward to the print version almost for the map alone.

As a funnel it's probably too short to work with more than 8 or 9 zero level peasants. If you have have a large gaming group, the default number of PCs in the usual funnel are going to overwhelm this adventure.

Is it potentially fairly lethal? Of course - it's a DCC funnel ;) That being said, the most effective strategy is for the players to pretty much swarm everything - it's missing the thinking and puzzle solving of sorts that the Goodman and Purple Sorcerer funnels generally include.

It's a decent hook to get the PCs involved, and that's always good, especially for a funnel.

There is also a generic version of the adventure included, so you should be able to run it with the fantasy RPG of your choice should you so choose. It's a nice bit of added value.

It does put too much magic in the hands of the PCs for a 0-level funnel in my opinion, but that is easy enough to remove.

From the blurb:

The product includes:

Bookmarked Digest PDF
Map
Bookmarked Text PDF for Tablets and E-Readers
System-Neutral Template
You are abruptly awakened by the frantic sounding of the chapel bell. As you gather with the other villagers in the village square, you are told that the light of morning has revealed that Sister Thara has been murdered and the young maiden Dela, is missing. The only clue to this terrible mystery are three letters written in blood beside Thara’s body; "Y U L."

Thara was the town’s protector and healer. Now she is gone. Who will protect Wydfield now? Who will right this wrong? No man, woman or child will sleep again in Wydfield until this evil is dealt with and defeated. If there was ever a time when Wydfield needed new heroes, now is the time! Who will go?

Mini Review - The Vile Worm (DCC Adventure)

The Vile Worm is the second in a series of adventures to be published under the Appendix N Adventure Toolkit banner. Like it's predecessor, The Ruins of Ramat, it's digest sized and clocks in at 12 pages.

Physically (as I'm holding the dead tree version as I write this) it's impressive for the $5.95 price tag. The cover, which is removable, hold the adventure's map on the inside. While not as exciting to look at as it's predecessor, it's still a pleasant map with accompanying art. Two player's handouts on card stock round out the package.

How is the adventure itself?

Lackluster. Six rooms and not much to encounter. The Ruins of Ramat squeezed a lot of gameplay into those 12 pages. The Vile Worm, not so much. If you have a short session (2 hrs or so) and need a short adventure, this would fill the bill, but I can't recommend The Vile Worm over The Ruins of Ramat all things being equal.

$5.95 in dead tree (dead tree + PDF subscription for $26.00), $2.95 in PDF.

Mini Review - The Ruins of Ramat (DCC RPG Adventure)

I recently received my dead tree copies of the first two Appendix N Toolkits - The Ruins of Ramat and the Vile Worm. With this post I'm taking a look at Adventure Toolkit #1, The Ruins of Ramat.

Right off the bat, I need to mention that the quality of the map is right up there with the best of the Goodman Game DCC RPG Adventure releases. You know how I harp about wanting to frame some of these awesome maps as prints? The copy of The Ruins of Ramat I unwrapped (I'll be giving some away in a contest later this summer) came with two wrap around covers. That means it has two wrap around maps on the inside of the cover. One for use in game, one for me to frame. +John Adams , the Lord does work in mysterious ways sometimes ;)

It also comes with two full page player handout inserts on cardstock. I always enjoy player handouts, so this is very cool. In the PDF version they are easy enough to load up in a application like Roll20 or print out as needed.

Regretfully, the player introduction is cut short, but as it is basically the same hook that's on the back cover of the adventure, it's omission isn't a huge issue. Still, here's the two paragraphs complete from the PDF version (the rear cover also refers to 4 handouts - there are two - the rear cover of the PDF version correctly refers to 2 handouts):
It is mid-spring, the time when the land’s rulers and their men-at-arms go to war with
their neighbors. Nearly every able person is already involved in such conflicts, or helping the remaining militia protect the local village.
A little girl comes running and crying into the center of the village. When questioned, she sobs that she and her dog were playing just outside of town, by Rose Hill, when a giant, clawed creature came up out of the ground and took her dog. The girl is completely terrified and her dog, which never normally leaves her side, is nowhere to be seen. You and your companions volunteer to look into the matter. (the last few words are the ones cut off)
The adventure itself is relatively tame for a DCC 0-Level funnel. By that, I mean that I'd expect a sufficient number of survivors without the need of mid adventure 0-Level "recruits" ;)

$5.95 for the print version of this a well worth it ($2.95 in PDF).

Appendix N Adventure Toolkits Have Arrived! (DCC RPG Kickstarter Adventure Series)

Lo and behold! I have in my possession five (yes five) copies of The Ruins of Ramat and five (yes five) copies of The Vile Worm!

Brave Halfling is in the house and he's made an excellent showing.

Seriously, as much as i enjoyed reading the PDF copies of both of these, the dead tree versions are simply amazing. Professional covers, striking maps, player handouts, nice art. It's almost like Christmas in July - but it's still June ;)

Sure, they would have been nice at Christmas, but I'm happy to have them now.

So, why all of the copies of Appendix N? For the summer of DCC RPG Contests silly! I still have some dead tree copies of DCC Adventures donated by Thick Skull and Purple Duck - so yes, I will be frequenting the post office this summer.

What will be the contest themes? Damn to all heck if I know, but we'll figure that out in time :)

The Brave Halfling Online Store Will Shortly Be No More - Brave Halfling to Move to POD

John Adams posted on his blog Confessions of an RPG Publisher  on Friday that he's shutting down the Brave Halfling Online store at the end of February.

John goes into his reasons and they all make a lot of sense. I think an unspoken reason is the huge delay in getting Delving Deeper out on time as well as the delay in the print rewards from the Appendix N Kickstarter. He's gotten flak for it, and it's deserved.

When you sell in PDF and Print on Demand, your products are actually on hand, not a preorder. The fact that someone else gets to mail out your orders with POD must be huge too, as I've found just mailing out prizes from the blog is a PITA when you need to work out the horrors of the US Postal System after a full week of work.

I am tempted to get extra boxes. At 10 bucks a pop Otus and Mullen boxes, they are a decent deal and they do look great.

It's a Good Day For Kickstarters - Ruins of Ramat (DCC RPG Appendix N) and tremulous PDFs in Hand

Alright, its kind of hard to actually call PDFs as being something "in hand", but I got my links to both the DCC RPG Adventure Ruins of Ramut (the first of the DCC RPG Adventures in the Appendix N line) and tremulous (notice the lack of a capital "T" in the title), the storytelling game of Lovecraftian horror today and I'm happy as a cultist in a pile of poop. Good, sacrificial poop. Heh

Ruins of Ramut is a Zero level funnel for DCC. I have yet to read it through, but I like the art and I love the map. Just like the pieces from Goodman Games, the map could be sold as an art print. Nicely done.

Tremulous comes in at nearly 250 pages. This is going to take some reading. It's based on Apocalypse World, but the writing isn't the faux "I'm so fucking cool and so fucking insane" bullshit that turned me off to AW, so hopefully I can read through this and just lose whatever sanity I would lose to the Mythos anyway. I can't throw tremulous against  the wall in frustration like I did my paperback copy of Apocalypse World - at least not without likely destroying my Google Nexus Tablet ;)

Appendix N Update - 8/23/12 (From Brave Halfling)

Hey folks! Here is where we stand on the Appendix N Adventures Kickstarter:

First, the Ruins of Ramat, The Witch of Wydfield and The Vile Worm modules as well as the Dagger Kids RPG are all still on schedule to ship in late September. I will start posting pictures of the products as they are being printed and assembled.

Second, I have been working and will have finished the private forum where those who have pledged at levels that allow it will be able to log on and help create, name and describe major and minor npcs, monsters and locations in The Old Isle setting. I will begin inviting folks to sign up for the forum in order from the highest pledges to the lowest pledges that qualify next week.

Third, Doug Kovacs is lined up to produce the cover art for the Old Isle Campaign Setting.

I really appreciate everyone who has or is moving who has emailed me their new address. Just as a reminder, I am setting up a file on every supporter in order to double-check each shipment when it is time to go out - both the products to be shipped and where they should be shipped. Furthermore, I will be sending out a kickstarter survey to every supporter a few weeks prior to each shipment just to be sure I have the correct address.
(Just got this email from John "Brave Halfing" Adams. It an update on the Appendix N Kickstarter. I figured I'd pass it on for those that might not have been on the Kickstarter email list. As a side note, this isnt the first Kickstarter where I've seen a large % of the pledges failed to go through)

Things are rolling now!

On a personal note, I used a bit (less than $500) of the Kickstarter money to purchase two printing / shipping tables. These babies have already dramatically increased the number of products BHP can print or ship each day! I will be posting pictures of the halfling family working on them.

There is some bad news that is two-fold. It appears that nearly $1,350 in pledges never went through - and this includes some of the highest pledges. Times are tough for many people, so I am not upset about it, but it does remove a large amount of money from the total raised. Actually, that amount is about what one shipment to supporters would cost. We will just have to see if it affects the whole program or not.

In addition, since the successful end of this Kickstarter, two of my artists and my box maker have all raised their prices. Apparently, they feel that I should be flush with money now. Or maybe it is because a number of other Kickstarters are raising tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars, they can just ask and get more money? Either way, I am dealing with it.

Just so you know, I will begin offering to the public individual Appendix N Adventure modules and an annual subscription (4 modules a year) in September. However, supporters of this Kickstarter will always receive their Appendix N Adventure modules a month before they ship to everyone else and to game stores. Supporters of this Kickstarter already have in essence what is a year’s subscription. ;)

Lastly, I will also begin taking orders for Dagger RPG kids game in late September as well. Again, nearly every supporter of this Kickstarter will receive a copy of this game master’s shield.

That is it for now, back to work!

DCC RPG Appendix N Kickstarter is an Amazing RPG Value - Ending Soon!

As I write this, the Appendix N Kickstarter for the DCC RPG has less then 40 hours to go and an extra stretch goal after reaching what was thought to be it's final stretch goal. Yes, it's getting that much support.

Still, I think I should break down what you get with your pledge, as Brave Halfling is giving the best value on the gaming dollar around. Even if you don't play the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG but one of the OSR clones, I'd still tell you to jump on board.  The deal is just that good.

Get some friends on board at the price becomes less than the price of a pizza pie ;)

I'm going to start with a pledge of $20, as this gets you a single copy (signed and numbered) of all the stretch goals in print in addition to PDF where applicable:

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #1: “The Ruins of Ramat

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #1a: “The Witch of Wydfield” (No PDF Ever for this one)

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #2: “The Crumbling Tower.”

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #3: “Danger in the Sulyndri Forrest.”

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #4: “The Revenge of Abudakar.”

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #5: “Perplexing Disappearances in Brambury.”

Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #6: "The Old Isle Campaign Setting." This product will include a 11" x 17" color campaign map, a digest Player's and Referee's Guide.

Appendix N Adventures Game Box.

DAGGER RPG: A Referee Screen for Quick and Simple Role Playing with Young Children (when the final goal is hit)

All the above comes with with a $20 pledge.  An amazing value.

A pledge of $30 ($31if you want a contributor credit in an upcoming adventure) get's you TWO print copies of the above Appendix N Adventure Toolkits AND the first 8 Appendix N Adventure Options pdfs.

A pledge of $50 gives you 3 copies of the above Appendix N Adventure Toolkits AND the first 8 Appendix N Adventure Options pdfs.  ($51 gives you the opportunity to design and name a monster, npc or location (500 words or less) in an Appendix N Module with full contributor credit listed on the title page)

A pledge of $100 gives you 5 copies the above Appendix N Adventure Toolkits AND the first 8 Appendix N Adventure Options pdfs. ($101 gives youthe opportunity to design and name a major monster, npc or location (1000 words or less) in an Appendix N Module with full contributor credit listed on the title page! - I'm in at this level)

There higher pledge levels, but I think you get the idea ;)

I'm in at the 5 print copies level of $101.  I will be giving away at least 2 copies every month of the Appendix N Adventure Toolkits (1-6) as I receive them via different contests on this blog. My way to give back to the DCC and OSR community.

Appendix N Kickstarter for the DCC RPG - Push For the Final Stretch Goals

Brave Halfling posted an update to the Appendix N Kickstarter they have running.  I'll do a basic summary, then I'll copy and paste the gist of it.

Appendix N has reached it's 3rd Stretch Goal, which means that everyone that has pledged for $20 or more is getting 4 adventures in print and PDF.  If it hits $10k everyone at $20 or more also gets a limited edition box for the adventures.  If it hit 15k, a 5th adventure (more like a mini setting) is added in print and PDF.

If you kick in $30, you get two copies of all of the print adventures, plus you get the first 8 Appendix N Adventure Options releases.

I'm in at $51 ;)

As I post this it's at just over $8400.

Here's the full info from today's update:

Wow! Three weeks ago, if you would have told me we would be close to hitting the fourth Bonus Goal in less than two weeks, I would not have believed you! Thanks you so much for your support in helping launch this new line of digest adventures in support of the DCC RPG! As another way for me to say, “Thank you,” I will be sending every supporter a free pdf detailing the god Ramat - his faith, teachings, rituals, spells and holy items.:)This will go out at around the same time as the first two modules ship.

Lots of folks have asked me why I set the “sweet spot” for this Kickstarter so low ($20) and how could I possibly be making any money off of it? That is a fair question and I would like to answer it here. In my 4+ years of hobby publishing I have learned a few things by trial and effort, by researching the industry, and by making many mistakes. This new line is exactly the kind of products I love to create! And this Kickstarter will enable me to create each of them in the quantities and at the level of quality I desire for them. For the first couple of years of BHP, I was able to fund projects out of my own pocket. But like so many people in our culture, I ended up being unemployed and underemployed for 13 of the last 24 months - and that reduced my ability to fund new projects. On the bright side, as our budget became tighter and tighter, my family and I have ended up spending more and more time playing games around the kitchen table. I know other families have as well. Times are still hard for many people. Each of these digest modules will retail anywhere from $5.95 to $8.95 (depending upon their size) and provide a session or two of gaming. That is very affordable. My goal for this Kickstarter has never been about making as much money as possible. Honestly, I am not sure using Kickstarter that way is very ethical. No, from the beginning, my goal has been to raise enough money to get this new line of products going and I am more than happy to provide all the modules and bonus goals in this Kickstarter to supporters at a greatly reduced rate (compared to the retail price) as my way of thanking them for providing me with the funds to release these modules in the quantities and at the level of quality they deserve.

With that said, I know that everyone wants to get as much for their money from this Kickstarter as possible and that means hitting as many Bonus Goals as possible. Folks know this kickstarter is already a fantastic deal and the current sweet spot for most supporters is $20. As a way of helping us hit the last two Bonus Goals, I will give copies of the first 8 Appendix N Adventure Options pdfs (detailed below) to every supporter who pledges $30 or more! This includes anyone who upgrades their pledge to $30 or more too.

Appendix N Adventure Options pdfs:
Something I did not even consider when I was putting together this Kickstarter is how BHP will also be supporting the DCC RPG with little pdf releases (in addition to the modules listed in this Kickstarter). This line of pdf-only products is called, “Appendix N Adventure Options.” BHP began as a pdf publisher putting out many pdfs in support of Labyrinth Lord, and I am going to do the exact same thing in support of the DCC RPG. Indeed, I have what I think are some unique (and very DCC RPG) takes on the optional character classes of ranger, bard and paladin. In addition, I also have an entire, pantheon of gods to be released with detailed descriptions of their faith, followers, rituals, teachings, major and minor places of worship, spells and holy items, etc. The gods of this pantheon include: Rhuynda (Withered Old Witch), Thaxson (The Just), Glenys (Wise Mother), Oska (The Goat god), Olmina (Sister Sea), Wurdyn (The Old Man), Miven (The Shameful), Shorn (The Scholar) and Valtor (The Mighty). Plus, other releases will include new magic-user spells (with single-page sheets), magic rituals, unique magic items, additional patrons, etc.

Again, thanks so much for your support and I look forward to serving your DCC RPG needs as my preferred customers for the next many months!

Looking at Two Dungeon Crawl Classics Kickstarters

Tales From the Fallen Empire
I've posted about Brave Halfling's Appendix N Kickstarter before.  Here's the big update - it hit Bonus Goal Number 2.  That means that anyone that pledges at $20 or more get's 4 different DCC RPG adventures, in print and PDF.  If the next goal is hit ($6k), another adventure in the pot.  At $10K everyone at the $20 or higher level gets a limited edition box for their goodies.  It's an amazing value for your many right now (with the 2nd bonus reached), but it just gets better.

Now Brave Halfling has revealed the bonus goal if $15k is raised:

Hey folks! I am so excited at all of the support! We hit the Basic Goal in just 12 1/2 hours, we surpassed the first Bonus Goal at the beginning of the third day and we are currently less than $500 from the second Bonus Goal! And there are still 26 days left in this Kickstarter! In these difficult economic times, it warms my heart knowing that even the vast majority of supporters who have pledged at the $20 and will be receiving a whole bunch of pdf and print modules! For all of you who have pledged small and large amounts, those of you who have shared this project on your blogs, through emails and through social media - thank you so much!
As a natural pessimist, I am hesitant to share my plan for an additional Bonus Goal, but the email requests are already filling my inbox - so I will let all of the supporters know about it first. Five years ago, I spent many months working with Gary Gygax on a unique campaign setting for his game, Lejendary Adventures. We shared back-and-forth almost daily about designing settings, npc races, magic item creation, divine beings, etc. Maps were created and art was commissioned. With Gary's passing and the end of his game, I decided to not release this material. However, from the first time I got to read some of the early DCC RPG play-test material, I knew this campaign setting had found a new home! So my friends, if this kickstarter reaches $15,000, everyone who has pledged $20 or more will also receive a pdf copy and a print copy of, Appendix N Adventure Toolkit #5: "The Old Isle Campaign Setting." This product will include a 11" x 17" color campaign map, a digest Player's and Referee's Guide. While all Appendix N Adventures are generic and can be placed into any campaign, they all do have specific locations in the Old Isle Setting. How's that for the first update? :) Again, that's so much for your support!

I'm currently in at $51 myself.  I'll raise that to $200 if we get within spitting distance of $15k :)

There is another Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG Kickstarter - Tales From the Fallen Empire: Swords and Sorcery Setting.  The funding goal for this is $4,500 and it currently sits at $4,332 with 42 days to go.  This one will also reach goal (and a couple of bonus goals too I expect)

1OO years have passed since Mankind revolted and slew the Sorcerer Kings of old… Now, the survivors of seven kingdoms begin to start new lives and hopes on the ashes of old. However, even as life continues, an ancient and forgotten evil stirs awaiting its moment to strike against mankind.
Join the struggle for survival in a war-torn land where new empires arise to impose their will upon the masses. Vicious warlords fight to control territories carved out of fallen kingdoms. Imposing magicians emerge claiming the legacy of the Sorcerer Kings. High Priests of long forgotten gods and goddesses amass wealth in the name of divine right while Warrior-priests, devoted to a banished god, patrol the lands bringing justice to people abandoned by their rulers.
Within these pages is a detailed post-apocalyptic fantasy setting taking you through an ancient realm that is fighting for its survival and its humanity. Seek your fortune or meet your fate in the burning deserts of the once lush and vibrant land of Vuul, or travel to the humid jungles of Najambi to face the tribes of the Man-Apes and their brutal sacrificial rituals.
Tales From the Fallen Empire is a post apocalyptic swords & sorcery setting created for use with the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG by Goodman Games.  It introduces new classes, an alternate way to handle the 0 level character funnel, setting inspired spells, new optional rules for swords & sorcery play and more.  Tighten the straps on your sandals, grab your weapon, and head forth into a land of trouble and turmoil. Adventure  awaits those foolhardy to enter the wastelands or for those who fear not the unknown. Pledge today to begin the adventure in the fragments of the Fallen Empire.

Appendix N Adventure Toolkits (DCC RPG Modules) Hits Basic Kickstarter Goal in 24 Hours!

Brave Halfling should be proud of themselves - they hit their basic goal for the Appendix N series of Dungeon Crawl Classics adventures in 24 hours.  The next 29 days are there to reach the stretch goals, and I think there is a very good change all will be hit with the great start out of the box.

Oh, and I guess that means I'll be creating a version of Tenkar's Tavern for one of the future adventures, as my pledge is now for a funded project.  Woot!

Alright, I have some reading to do do today.

Laters :)

Appendix N Kickstarter by Brave Halfling - Adventures for Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG

I really am enjoy my Trek through the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG.

In the past I've enjoyed pretty much everything Brave Halfling has put out, and I have the gaming boxes that they released.  They friction' rock!

A Kickstarter for Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG Adventures published by the fine folks at Brave Halfling?  It's a win-win.  Or a ground ball.  Or a home run.  Depends on what direction you are coming to it from, but in all situations you really can'y go wrong.

I'm a bit of a collector, so I'm in at $51.  Without hitting any of the bonus goals, it gives me 3 copies each of two different DCC adventures and a PDF of the first one (the second one is a limited run that is only available through this Kickstarter).  For the first three stretch goals that are hit (if they are) I'll be getting 3 copies and a PDF of yet another adventure.  Oh, did I mention they are signed and numbered?  Or that I get to create a monster, NPC or location for a future adventure in the series at this pledge level?  I'd love to see Tenkar's Tavern be a location in a DCC adventure.  ;)

X-plorers Boxed Set X2

I got my 2 boxes of the X-plorers Boxed Set - #52 and #60 of 200.  Pretty damn cool!

One minor quibble - the maps are awesome but they don't want to lay flat - they were shipped rolled and want to stay such.  Folding them would have been painful, I'm sure, but I've already creased them trying to get them to stay flat.  Like I said, very minor complaint.

I noticed one typo - a reference to a "strength bonus" on page 30, which is obviously a hold over from the  OGL rules X-plorers is built upon (it should be referring to Physique, which is combination of Strength and Constitution).  I only noticed this as page 30 is the first page I opened at and started reading right away.

Anyhow, very high quality boxed set, but I expected nothing less from Brave Halfling Publishing.

X-Plorers Boxed Set Coming From Brave Halfling

I need to thank Ze Bulette for bringing to my attention Brave Halfling's latest release: X-Plorers Boxed Set.  I do love me some boxed RPG sets.  I'm already in for 2 sets - at $25 a piece it's a hard price to beat.

Maybe I'll finally have the SciFi RPG rules I want to use...
