Yes, You Can Pay Ken Whitman for the Privilege of Being in His Demo Reels (with equipment he previously claimed was sold)

Ah, Ken Whitman. He's a liar. No, he's a thief. Wait, he's a lying thief. How about scammer? Are we forgetting scammer? Shit. Okay, he's a lyingtheifscammer. Fuck, lets just call him a Scoundrel and be done with it.

What is Ken / Whit / Whitless latest scam?

Speed Reels

You to can participate at $100 an actor. No, that's not how much he is paying. It's what you pay him.

Oh, and the equipment pictured?

This was all purchased with the backer money from the KotDT: LAS Kickstarter. Yep, the same project he abandoned. The same equipment he claimed to have sold to pay off debts.

You can call him Whit or call him Ken, but in the end it doesn't matter. He's the Scoundrel your mother warned of. Sadly, so many ignore the warning.

Thanks to Jolly for bringing this to my attention.

As an aside, do any readers have connection in the Atlanta Film Community? They may want to warn those that may listen...

    5. awesome - stuff you sold to noble knight that should have gone to your backers is what you are offering your backers?

noble knight paid you AND your backers paid you - so you're doubling your money and either noble knight or your backers get screwed

      that's basic math

As they've never lied to me, not shipped a product, and haven't ran a half-dozen failed Kickstarters, I think I'll trust their words more than yours.

      And it's 'Knight' - with a 'K'. Like 'K'en.

Ken: I'll call you, if you want, but I get to record our conversation and place it online for everyone to listen to.

I would ask specific targeted questions about your Kickstarters and what you are going to do to get to people the items you promised them.

    10. When a project is successfully funded, the creator must complete the project and fulfill each reward. Once a creator has done so, they’ve satisfied their obligation to their backers.

Throughout the process, creators owe their backers a high standard of effort, honest communication, and a dedication to bringing the project to life. At the same time, backers must understand that when they back a project, they’re helping to create something new — not ordering something that already exists. There may be changes or delays, and there’s a chance something could happen that prevents the creator from being able to finish the project as promised.

If a creator is unable to complete their project and fulfill rewards, they’ve failed to live up to the basic obligations of this agreement. To right this, they must make every reasonable effort to find another way of bringing the project to the best possible conclusion for backers. A creator in this position has only remedied the situation and met their obligations to backers if:

      they post an update that explains what work has been done, how funds were used (did you tell you Pencil Dice backers that the funds were never used for their product?), and what prevents them from finishing the project as planned;
      they work diligently and in good faith to bring the project to the best possible conclusion in a timeframe that’s communicated to backers;

      they’re able to demonstrate that they’ve used funds appropriately (as in, on the project backed and not some other project) and made every reasonable effort to complete the project as promised;

they’ve been honest (Ken, how many times have you said "books have shipped" "ships have shipped" "pencils were ordered", "the actors were paid" "I have everything at the release party reserved and paid for" "those coffee table books are limited to backers", and have made no material misrepresentations in their communication to backers; and

they offer to return any remaining funds to backers who have not received their reward (in proportion to the amounts pledged), or else explain how those funds will be used to complete the project in some alternate form.

The creator is solely responsible for fulfilling the promises made in their project. If they’re unable to satisfy the terms of this agreement, they may be subject to legal action by backers.

Ken, you being who and what you are does not excuse you for the lies. I think folks would be more forgiving of the incompetence of you business sense if you hadn't already muddied the waters with misdirections and stall tactics.

      1. You claimed repeatedly that pencil dice were in production and being shipped. In actuality, they were never in production.

      2. You claimed that not only were books being shipped, but that all but a few people had received them. None of those books were ever shipped or received.

This isn't people "making up crap." These are YOUR words, which can be viewed on your own Kickstarters.

How do you justify that? How do you justify it to yourself? You said things that were simply untrue, and you knew they were untrue.

It's the only way he can keep his ego intact. If he ever thought - even for a second - that the people commenting on his failed Kickstarters had a point, or if he thought that he's completely screwed Jolly, or Marc Miller, or Troll Lord Games, or the guys at Noble Knight Games, his ego would collapse on itself like a dying star.

    6. Truth is she DID cuss him out in all caps via email. She would just never use that particular phrase.

After she found out he was telling the KODTLAS actors/crew the reason they weren't getting paid was because he was waiting for a check from Kenzer. Complete lie — money would NEVER flow in that direction and never did. She was so hurt and upset he had thrown her and the company under the bus (making all those people WE were the hold up on payment) she lost it - and deservedly so.

Only reason we found out about the lie is one of the actors contacted her privately to ask when she thought Ken might get his check. It was like a nuclear bomb going off. Should have heard those keys being pounded as she emailed him. lol

Ken's apology is in the chat log admitting what he did btw. Which surprises me how he's spinning it here or even bring him up.

Doesn't surprise me. He's said hurtful things about my dead daughter to me. So why not attack my wife.

I said a living, Ken. I guess the acting jobs aren't going so well after all, huh?

      Delete
    10. well Ken since you're so chatty, perhaps you can answer some questions.

the goal for the KODT Kickstarter was $60k. you EXCEEDED that by nearly $10k. Why then is this not finished? you clearly had enough money for it. Or did you use money from this project elsewhere?

Why were you selling books that backers should have received as part of their pledge level to Noble Knight, who were then on selling them until they were informed that those books were supposed to be delivered to people already?

Speaking of this project, I still haven't received the following products which I was supposed to receive by no later than 31 August 2015 as per my backing level:
      1) Blu Ray of the finished product along with a bloopers DVD
      2) Larry Elmore poster of the movie cover
      3) 10 screensavers from the comic and action series
      4) a production diary from every single week of the shoot
      5) a web screening following by Q&A with the actors
      6) a high res download of the finished product (as opposed to the shambles you had available for us to download with poor audio and colours)

and why have you not given all the footage to ZOE as promised so they could clean it up for the final release?

oh and don't say this is all 100% KenzerCo's fault - YOU ran this kickstarter and YOU were the one who promised all this stuff. If there was a problem, if there weren't enough funds, YOU could have, at any time, told the fans and let them know there was a snag.

So far I have not received a single one the items I should have received at my pledge level. All I can do is assume you don't intend to deliver anything.

And don't write me off as 'one of the few complainers' either - because every one of your projects has people complaining about lack of delivery of product. Why are other projects, which you started before this one, also failing?

      Delete
    11. Oh hey, Pencil Dice Backer checking in here.

      Ken,

As per my pledge level I was to receive 36 Pencil Dice. You needed $1,000 to make this happen and you got $38,000.

I've seen, in your own words, how you spent my money on an unrelated project called Spinward Traveller. Yet, when I contacted you directly about that on your Facebook page you scrubbed the comment and blocked me.

You claimed my comment was "unrelated" since I asked about Pencil Dice under a promised Spinward Traveller update, but I see it being pretty closely related. I am apprently due Spinward Rewards since thats where my money went.

You are a crook and the lone person responsible for the failure of D20, RapidPod, Ken Whitman Games, and the numerous other ventures you have polluted. If that makes you feel sad or defensive then you can weep into the walls of the mental nest you have built yourself.

At the end of the day all anyone has asked is that you take an ounce of personal responsibility and show some humility. Failure is part of the process, but intentional deceit and fraud is criminal.

Your comments here make it all the more apparent you place NO real value in relationships and treat people like a commodity.

You don't have much of a future.

  26. What is really interesting to me reading through all this is 3 things.
    1) Ken made a lot of posts without actually posting anything at all about any progress on the KickStarters.
    2) Ken asks why has not Jolly sued him and when Jolly asks for his address ... silence. If you really have done nothing wrong Ken post an address you can be reached for all to know. That would do volumes to answer your critics.
    3) Ken wrote his great accusation to Kenzer/Jolly but then when Jolly responds and offer to publically post those actual conversations to everyone if Ken keeps talking ... magically Ken stops talking.

The projects have been a sad state to witness. And outside of here one of the most telling is Jolly offer on the KS to never talk about Ken online negatively ever again if ZOE would receive all the footage. An offer that I'm not sure many people in Jolly's situation would be willing to offer. And yet ... still not taken.

Ken ... if you wanted us to believe you are the victim ... you left a trail of carnage here with your posts that simply support the opposite to be true.
