A WTF Kickstarter - Erotic Adventures - Third party sexy adventure rules (for 5e)

Alright. See the pic above for the Erotic Adventures Kickstarter (for 5e). That literally tells you more than the boilerplate.

Yep, that's the whole "sell". I get it. Its over the top. There is a way to do this with some class (Venger comes to mind) and then there is this. And yes, its funded.

Oh, I don't think you can actually mention D&D in the backer levels - and my, what backer levels they are. Here's just a sampling.

  1. You had me a gender bending semen ooze. I didn't follow the link, but how much for orgy? I give the dude a 10 for balls (Bad pun intended) and 0 for tact.

  2. Aren't there already like three different books dedicated to sex for D&D. Why not just convert those over to 5th Edition, how hard can that be? Why start a kickstarter for that?

    1. People who have actually had sex don't need instructions on how to include it in a game, if they so choose.

  3. Why can't they mention D&D in the pledge levels? AFAIK, WotC has a trademark for Dungeons & Dragons, but not for the abbreviation D&D. That's why Kenzer & Co. could plaster products with promises of compatibility with "4e D&D" without fear of legal repercussions.

    1. The abbreviated term D&D when it comes to games and gaming products has been a federally registered trademark since 1992 and is still active and owned by WoTC.

    2. Kenzer Co has a unique relationship with WotC due to the whole Dragon CD Collection fiasco.

    3. Also they are owned by a patent attorney and know the exact wording to follow without breaking the law.

  4. As George Takei would say, "Oh myyyyy."

  5. So, basically the Book of Erotic Fantasy for 5e. I guess this was bound to happen in some way or other.

  6. Whenever L.L. Hundal tells me she's ashamed that "Modern Basics: Feats of an Adult Nature" (our tongue-in-cheek "mature" product at NUELOW Games) continues to sell, I remind her we could have done something far, far worse. Like whatever this book is going to be....

  7. @goeticgeek ten bucks, same as downtown.

  8. The project creator's incorporated a bunch of add-ons to the Kickstarter pitch, and gosh this one is a doozy:

"I have also decided to create one additional add on item. This item is available only as an add on, and it is only available to Missionary and up. For $10 per person, I will Game Master a 10 session campaign for you and your friends. The method of communication will be Discord, the sessions will be three hours long, and the minimum number of players is 3."

    Let's break that down:

    - 10 sessions.
    - 3 hours a session comes to 30 hours, not including prep time (which, to be fair, could be shared between all of the different Discord campaigns, so 30 hours per backer who buys this seems fair).
    - Minimum number of players 3, $10 per player, comes to a minimum of $30 for all that work.

So the project owner is valuing her time as a DM at the princely rate of a minimum $1 per hour. Classy. Realistically, given that a group larger than 6 is going to be nightmarish to handle over VOIP, you're talking a maximum of $2/hour.

And this is available to everyone from the Missionary level on up - not a high-tier-only add-on. Someone could potentially be running a LOT of campaigns.

      I think she's overcharging.

    2. Dude, I need to playtest the thing anyways.

  9. Eh, I threw $10.00 at it for curiosity sake. If anything the amusement alone was worth 10.00. As an aside, yes there could have been a more tasteful way of producing an erotic RPG supplement. Sex in game is not uncommon these days (look at Apocalypse World, Monster Hearts, or most games by Emily Boss), but if done right can be an "interesting" add. The approach of this book is s little immature and I fear will see more ridicule Than it being taken seriously.

  10. Kickstarter: "...be one of the first to bring sex into the world of fantasy!"

Narrator: "Suffice to say, he was not."

  11. OK - I threw away a couple bucks on this just to be able to post to their Kickstarter comments, but just in case you missed it, are these:

"OK - Isn't there already a couple of books for this? I can think of a couple of them:

Book of Erotic Fantasy - written by Gwendolyn F. M. Kestrel and Duncan Scott
    ISBN-13: 1-58846-399-0 - 192 pages - published by Arthaus - 2006

and the forthcoming Book of Passion written by Christina Stiles
(that because it has yet to see print has no ISBN, but is under production due to its Kickstarter...

Is there major differences between your proposal and these two?

  12. oglaf.com has the right amount of adult humour in a fantasy setting. I'd rather see something for 5E that emulates that.
