Fanatical Goodman Games Bundle

Let me say this outright - you are NOT snagging this bundle for random, probably worthless, Goodman Games 5e shovelware. There, I said it. Much of the 3rd party 5e content is shovelware. No, you are snagging this bundle for particular content - specifically Dark Tower, Monsters & Magic of Dark Tower, The Sunken Temple of Set (Dark Tower), Crypt of the Devil Lich, Monsters and Magic of Lankmar, and Grimtooth's Old School Traps. Actually, if you REALLY think of it, you are grabbing Dark Tower and Grimtooth's Old School Traps. For 12.99

Yes, you can grab the Fanatical Goodman Games Bundle for $12.99 - but most of my readers will only care about what I detailed above. I don't blame you.

Kickstarter - Emberland: the Zine of an Evolving 5e TTRPG Sandbox

I know it says "5e" in the very title, but apparently, it is also for the OSR:

"Seven zine issues, each adding new territory, NPCs, creatures, and adventures to the evolving 5e/OSR TTRPG setting of Emberland."

So, OSR, quirk maps, and only 20 bucks? The Emberland Kickstarter is a no-brainer for me!

Built with both 5e and OSR in mind, inspired by Lovecraftian Horror, Oz & Wonderland, and a bit of The Muppets... it's Emberland.

Incorporating both a points-of-interest-hexcrawl and story-filled campaign hooks, the Emberland sandbox is designed to provide GMs with an open world that will grow and respond to player choices, and also be a setting where specific storylines (if the PCs are inclined to follow the hooks) can lead to detailed adventures. Built around a hex-crawl "points-of-interest" format, the Emberland zines will build out a world full of random encounter tables (changing with each zine to reflect the different terrains and level advancement of the characters) add specific adventures (including a Mega-Dungeon: The Work Pit), and introduce a growing number of NPCs and factions that will be at odds with the PCs.

Kickstarter - Up the Beanstalk: A Solo Adventure for 5e & B/X! (Pacesetter Games)

I've known Bill and Ben (best hair in the OSR) Barsh for well over a decade, and their knowledge and devotion to the OSR and old-school gaming is second to none (even if Ben is a bit of a 5e guy)

At the moment, I'm in between campaigns, so a nice, solo adventure may do me well. Of course, my preferred flavor is B/x ;)

Damn it! I'm in for the Up the Beanstalk: A Solo Adventure for 5e & B/X! Hardcover...

Up the Beanstalk is a true solo adventure for 3rd level characters using the 5th Edition or B/X game systems! For more about solo gaming, see the SoloSystem header here in the "Story" section.

This book will feature a variety of new content to each game system to better fit the adventure at hand. You can expect:

  • 75+ Pages of Adventure
  • New Marvelous Magic Items
  • New Malicious Monsters
  • Detailed maps to guide adventure where necessary
  • Beautiful black and white artwork to tell the visual story

"Writing a fantasy roleplaying adventure based on such a classic story comes with a fair amount of responsibility. I have done my best to retain the spirit and themes present within the original tellings of this story. The stalk is still a challenge in itself, a certain hen may lay certain eggs, Blunderbore (you know him) is still evil, etc etc. However, this adventure module gives your character the opportunity to be the hero of the story. I hope you all enjoy this adventurous re-telling of one of the greatest stories on Earth. We all have a beanstalk to ascend to become whom we were meant to be. Time to start climbing!" -Ben Barsh, author and designer of Up the Beanstalk

Humble Bundle - MegaDungeon Bundle from Goodman Games

While it says, MegaDungeon Bundle for 5e & DCC RPG on the tin, some other gems (and refuse) are thrown into the mix.

There are some 3x-era gems (Castle WhiteRock!) and some 4e clunkers. Oh, and some Castles and Crusades releases. Oh, and Dark Tower!

The DCC RPG stuff is top-notch. I own much of it, so speaking from experience.

Backerkit - Gaslight Victorian Fantasy Revised and Expanded for 5E

Imagine a Victorian world, but not as history tells us it was, but as the literature implies that it was. Believe that the literature from the period was more than just stories; instead, it was first-hand accounts of the events that happened in the world.

At NTRPG Con this past June, I talked about the forthcoming Gaslight Victorian Fantasy Backerkit with Jonathan Thompson. I told Jonathan I was very much NOT a 5e player, but the more he pitched the setting, the more I was tempted. I am still very much NOT a fan of 5e D&D, but I do expect I'll be adding Gaslight Victorian Fantasy to my gaming shelves, digital and/or physical (but damn, I'm running low on space for new physical purchases)

Sixteen years ago, Jonathan M. Thompson and Stephen Miller introduced the world to Gaslight Victorian Fantasy. Battlefield Press is proud to bring you the revision that Jonathan was working on when we lost him. A fully updated and revised version for 5E Fantasy. This edition features an all-new cover brought to us by William W. Connors!

Imagine a Victorian world, not as history tells us it was, but as the literature implies that it was. Believe that the literature from the period was more than just stories, but instead first-hand accounts of the events that happened in the world. Imagine a world populated by the lost boys of J.M. Barrie, the Beast Men of Dr. Moreau, and even tales of an immortal vampire named Dracula. Included in these are organizations bent on determining what is best for humanity, and they have launched a secret war against others so that only one will prevail.

In Gaslight, you will find:

  • A History of Gaslight Earth
  • Races detailed for Gaslight Earth
  • New interpretations of Victorian Economics, including both a cash and target-based wealth system
  • Rules for Social Standing
  • Weapons and equipment from the Victorian era
  • A Reliquary containing a few artifacts from the history of the Earth of Gaslight.
  • A detailed Gazetteer and Timeline, including *NEW* information on other parts of the world, both the British Empire and its adversaries.
  • *NEW* Secret Organizations

Indiegogo - Forest of Spores (OSE, C&C, & 5e)

The hamlet of Jensenville woke to a forest of mushrooms that sprang up overnight right outside their village. What's worse, the mushrooms are expanding, absorbing homes and building into their midst. The villagers need help before they are overrun. And that won't be long given how fast new mushrooms keep sprouting up.

What terror awaits in the fungus forest? Heroes are needed to venture inside...but will they return?

Forest of Spores is Rachel Marsh's first work for Frog God Games. It's funded on Indigogo and then some, and Frog God Games has a solid history of publishing its projects on time.

Forest of Spores is 12 bucks in PDF and 25 in POD and PDF.

Here's hoping your heroes are just what the residents of Jensenville need!

Will they push into the forest's depths where fungi grow wild? Where other creatures wait to stop their mission? And how will they react to the mushroom-people making a new home in the dark nooks of the forest, completely unaware of the villagers' plight?

And worse still, something else waits in the forest, a threat to humans and mushroom-people alike. It's already killed a number of the mushroom-people, and it is more than happy to welcome the adventurers (aka fresh meat) into its killing ground.

Forest of Spores can be played as a standalone adventure, or it can serve as a lead-in to further investigations into the mysterious and dangerous Under Realms.

Kickstarter - The Ruins of Ordane: D&D 5E / OSR / AD&D / B/X Adventure

Explore a ruined city of an advanced civilization that met its doom: with a touch of Barrier Peaks meets Call of Cthulhu.

I'm always a fan of dark fantasy. Mix a little Call of Cthulhu into what is otherwise standard fantasy, and you usually level up to a deeper, more entertaining adventure. Looking at The Ruins of Ordane Kickstarter, it hits this sweet spot with just enough weirdness to make it special. The fact that it is encounter-based and not linear (which happens all too often in published RPG adventures) is simply icing on the cake.

The Ruins of Ordane is an OSR and 5E one-shot (or sandbox) for characters of levels 6-10. Elements of the adventure hearken back to Expedition to the Barrier Peaks and Call of Cthulhu, but injected with a bit of weird and whimsy, ala Jack Vance.

This 25-30 page adventure will include:

  • 12+ encounter locations within and below the ancient, ruined city of Ordane.
  • Multiple brand-new monsters, including the elder sentry and primal shoggoth.
  • Numerous new magical items, including the death orb and urn of Katir.
  • Numerous Charts and Tables, to help ensure the party has an opportunity to unearth useful information, including:
  • Events
  • 6+ Random Encounters while exploring the city
  • Discoveries
  • Ordanian Artifacts, including the inferno blaster and hypnosis cube

Lore connected with the world, including numerous tie-ins with past adventures and adventures to come. Have your PCs done business with Ralamir of Veros? This may come in handy. Did they encounter the Mudlicker goblins in Witch of Chimney Rock? If so, they may have an advantage in Ordane.

Spectacular Art from Simon Underwood.

Multiple maps, including a regional map of the area and encounter maps within Ordane by the excellent Silver Compass Maps.

Kickstarter - The Complete Virgin Mine AD&D/5E Mega-Dungeon!

I've been following Art of the Genre for years now. Scott's work is always high-end, and the artists he secures for the covers are second to none. His orange spin releases fit nicely with the orange spin AD&D 1e books.

The Complete Virgin Mine is Scott's latest Kickstarter and is a compilation of seven parts initially released as soft-cover adventures (Folios), brought under one hardcover, orange-spined book. Or snag the individual releases - but then you won't have the orange spine...

I really need to organize my 1e collection/Folio Hardcovers to get that full "orange shelf" look ;)

The Complete Virgin Mine is a 7 part mega-dungeon with another series of rooms in the higher levels that feature access to 'the shadow realm' in which even more monsters can be encountered!  It is a project that is four years in the making, and has taken on a 'life of its own', much like that original Roslof Keep campaign (see below). As this project compiles 6 Folio adventure modules (#26-#31) and 5 mini-adventures, and a bonus 'boss monster' encounter for the final endgame (is the book cover giving anything away?) I thought it was important to offer the first five modules in both physical and PDF format, AND also produce Folio #31, The Dungeon of Death, which can also funded ONLY in this Kickstarter (for all you looking to keep your Folio collection complete!).

Deal of the Day - Ravensrook: A Grimdark Urban Fantasy Setting (OSR/5e)

Settings. Can you really have too many? I find that I love reading new settings, and liberally steal, or borrow, depending on your point of view, from different settings to make my own setting complete. Urban settings have their own, special appeal, as they are easier to drop into a different setting more or less whole.

Ravensrook: A Grimdark Urban Fantasy Setting is a setting suitable for both the OSR and 5e rulesets. Normally 10 bucks in PDF, Ravensrook is on sale for a mere 5 bucks until tomorrow morning, March 1st.

The Lands of the Free Lords is a patchwork of petty kingdoms, bandit lords, and misfit war camps sandwiched between evil empires, do-gooder nations, and religious zealots. While regional warlords rose and fell over the ages, there was one constant within this chaotic land - the famed city of Ravensrook. The Black-Winged City of Bandits and Brigands. The only proper city within the Lands of the Free Lords.

This supplement is fully compatible with 5th edition as well as the OSR.

Includes:

  • A history of Ravensrook and its region, the Lands of the Free Lords.
  • A full overview of the city’s government; Guilded-law, the Members of the Council of Lords, and the new Governor.
  • A full breakdown of the four tiers of the city, along with the prominent businesses and Guilds to be found in each one.
  • A full city map showing the locations of all the important businesses, Guild Halls, and governmental buildings.
  • Information on 14 different factions within the city that are vying for power and control.
  • Entries on the top 16 Guilds of the city.
  • 23 entries for the most important NPCs to be found within the city along with role-playing notes.
  • A listing of all the Gods worshiped within Ravensrook along with monsters specific to the city and their statblocks.

Sale! - Lost Adventures Of Gary Con Limited Edition (OSR/5e)

First, full disclosure. A portion of the monies raised from the sale of the Lost Adventures of Gary Con Limited Edition will be going to help my wife, Rach, who is currently being treated for breast cancer, to assist with the out-of-pocket expenses. Also, I consider Don Semora (publisher) and Tim Kask (author) as close, personal friends. If there is any bias to be considered, it has been detailed here.

So, what is the Lost Adventures of Gary Con Limited Edition? Simply put, it is a reprinting of Tim Kask's adventures from Gary Con I & II back in 2009 & 2010. These early Gary Cons had limited attendance and thus exposure to these adventures in their original form was, by their very nature, limited.

The Lost Adventures of Gary Con Limited Edition was originally priced at 95 bucks, but through the end of 2023, LAG-LE has been placed on sale for $75.

Did I mention that each copy is signed by Tim Kask?

Looking for a gift for yourself? Late gift for your DM? Are you an OSR gamer? A 5e player? The Lost Adventures of Gary Con Limited Edition is a unique piece of gaming history.

From the blurb:

This is the Hard Cover version limited to 300 copies of the Lost Adventures of Garycon. In this special edition are two of the first tournament modules that Tim Kask wrote for GaryCon I and II. Each module is presented in it's original form, and also converted into both 1E and 5E versions, so everyone will get something out of this unique product.

The two modules are The Tower of the Mad Wizard which was played at Garycon I, and also the Return to the Frozen North, which was played at Garycon II. Also inside this limited edition hard cover are several pull out full color maps, expanded monsters, and several unique pre-gen characters. Along with this stunning hardcover purchasers will get the following.

Also included is a four page comic spread from Jim Wampler of Marvin the Mage that was first shown at GaryCon 4. Plus included is a brief how Marvin the Mage is made, where you can see the process of making the madly madcap and amusing Mage being created.

  • Quality hard cover book, with full color heavy weight pages
  • All copies signed by Tim Kask
  • Certificate of authenticity
  • Several removable maps of the areas and worlds
  • 16 Unique monsters never before seen or published
  • Unique Pre-Generated player characters
  • The scanned original module as played by Tim Kask
  • Security Hologram showing your edition number
  • ONCE THESE COPIES ARE SOLD THERE WILL BE NO MORE PRINTINGS

Some of the proceeds of the sale of this game going to do two special things. A portion of the sales will go to the 9/11 Never Forget Fund. However we are also donating a portion to Rachel Stiene, a brave woman who dedicated her life in New York City to helping those with substance abuse issues. Rachel recently was diagnosed with breast cancer, and we hope that we can help her with some of her medical expenses that she will incur that insurance will not cover.

Humble Bundle - RPG Book Bundle - 5th Edition MegaBundle: Gygax, Kobold, Friends & More

While I am not a huge fan of D&D 5e, I find it to be extremely simple to convert a 5e adventure to the OSR system of my choice. So if you offer me quality 5e adventures at a dirt cheap price, I'm all in.

With the 5th Edition MegaBundle: Gygax, Kobold, Friends & More RPG Bundle, I'm all in.

I have a few of these in OSR releases, but 25 bucks for nearly endless adventuring material is difficult to pass up :)
