Why I Haven't Added "Sponsored Ads" Here at The Tavern

This has exactly WHAT to do with RPGs?

(the above is a screenshot from a popular gaming site)

I may curse like a NYC Cop (which I am) but I'm not selling "tits and ass". Not saying I don't appreciate "tits and ass", but like most things, it has it's time and place. Personally, I don't feel it belongs on a gaming site.

What little monies this blog raises is from OBS referrals, and goes back into giveaways and review item purchases.

I'd love to make some beer money (as I have expensive "microbrew" tastes) but not if the above is what I need to use to pay for it.

I'm sure it's just another company slipping some bullshit into an ad company's rotation, but I refuse to put this fine Tavern at the mercy of some advertising fuck up - I can fuck thing up on my own, thank you very much.

  1. Agree entirely, has been a real problem for some time. I noticed it when I used to advertise with adwords and saw some of the things my banners were surrounded by for other gaming sites. So, been this way since 2009 and is surely only worse now.

  2. I had ads for about two weeks, or until I did the math and discovered that my take of the advertising budget amounted to about a dollar a year. Totally not worth it.

    1. The Tavern does very decent traffic, and I suspect sponsored ads would make a noticeable bump in the monies earned, but at the price of my soul.

My soul has a much higher price point ;)

  3. Perhaps I should rethink my use of Adblock.

  4. Ugh. This one isn't even For Men Only. You might have to game with a woman.

  5. Oh man, I only clicked over here because of the thumbnail of some T &A!

    I feel robbed. :-)

  6. What's worse is that video in the ad is stolen from another video game, not the one being advertised. It's from Dead or Alive: Paradise for the PSP, a beach volleyball game

  7. Cartoon porn, it just doesn't fit on gaming blogs, food blogs, movie blogs or any of that. Yet, I see them on all of those.

    1. I signed up on Facebook recently and the cartoon porn for games is constantly on the sidebar. It is annoying since I only have use of the family computer at the moment.

  8. I've been seeing that ad lately. I just ignore the damn things. You won't find ads on my blog unless its for a gaming product or something weird I think is cool.

  10. I am thankful that you don't have all the advertising cluttering up your blog. I'd rather see you occasionally place a tip the bar-tender post with a link to a site where we could buy you some fine crafted beer or components for your home brewed alchemy.
