Jonathan M. Thompson Memorial Bundle (DTRPG)

When I was at Totalcon two weeks ago, I found out that Jonathan M. Thompson had passed. I was blessed to be able to share the GoFundMe to help Jonathan's family with their related expenses.

Today I'm sharing the Jonathan M Thompson Memorial Bundle over at DTRPG. Pinnacle took the lead on this, but there are dozens of donors of RPG material, including yours truly, as every purchaser of the bundle gets a copy of Swords & Wizardry Continual Light as well as 147 other titles for a mere 25 bucks. It's for a good cause in the memory of a good man, and I ask that you simply give the page a look and decide if the offer interests you.

In addition to the $250 already donated to the above GoFundMe matching the donations of the members of this community, all monies raised from affiliate sales at DTRPG over the next 5 days will also be donated to Jonathan's GoFundMe.

The Tavern is supported by readers like you. The easiest way to support The Tavern is to shop via our affiliate links.

DTRPGAmazon, and Humble Bundle are affiliate programs that support The Tavern.  You can catch the daily Tavern Chat cast on AnchorYouTube or wherever you listen to your podcast collection. - Tenkar

David Baity (Weird Frontiers RPG) Benefit Raffle for Paved Paws Animal League

David Baity asked to make a guest appearance at The Tavern, and as we do every year, we are very happy to have him and the cause he is helping. I happen to be a huge cat person (and Sadie, our orange tabby, is a rescue from our backyard in October of 2020).

It’s that time of the year again when I throw a bag full of gaming loot on the table and ask you to donate for a cause that is near and dear to me. Most of you are familiar with the charity raffle I’ve done over the last several years to raise money for local no-kill rescues, but for those of you that aren’t in the know, I’ll try to make it short and sweet.

I have a real soft spot for most things running around on four legs, with cats being my favorite people on planet earth. One Saturday, several years ago, I happened to be in a PetSmart store and saw some ladies spending their Saturday trying to adopt out felines that they fostered after ensuring they were healthy. It never really hit me until that day the amazing things these rescues do, and the sacrifice they make. It wasn’t long afterward that I decided to do my part. I threw together a gaggle of nerdy goodies and set up a prize raffle where all money raised was donated to these special people and the animals they give a chance at life to, while at the same time giving some cool gifts away.

This year is only different in that a few local businesses in the area have been kind enough to donate items, some of which aren’t related to gaming. I'm hoping that these donations will bring folks into the raffle that aren't into gaming. The way the raffle works is simple! You donate directly to Paved Paws Animal League by way of https://paypal.me/pavedpaws , and for each dollar you donate, you gain one ticket/entry for the raffle. The raffle will run from 3/6 through 3/20 at midnight. From there, I’ll have someone in the industry draw names. Winners will pick prizes in the order their name is drawn.

I’m very excited to open the raffle up locally this year in the hopes it raises awareness in the community and helps raise more money for the cause.

In the past, I’ve split the donations up between two rescues, but this year I’m going to keep it simple and go with Paved Paws Animal League. Sheri Kassalias is the founder of the rescue, and it was formed in May 2015. They have a full board and are a foster-based rescue with no brick-and-mortar facility.

I’ve been a big fan of Sheri and those helping her for several years now. I’ve witnessed her many heartaches through the years brought on by the animals she couldn’t save, and the joyful moments when an animal is saved and eventually made healthy enough to adopt out. There aren’t many weekends where she’s not out at a local pet food store in the area selling some cool hand-crafted items to raise money for animals she’s getting ready for adoption. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, folks. Sherri cares for five feline colonies that she feeds every night, rain, or shine. This also means trapping those that haven’t been fixed so that they can be spayed or neutered and then re-released back to their colonies unless there’s a rare case where a cat has been abandoned. These lucky moggies are often tame enough to be re-homed after their medical needs are attended to. Add occasional transporting of animals out of state to be adopted, and some dabbling in wildlife rescue, and you can see why I think they’re a legit place to park some funds.

All you must do to donate to this tax-deductible charitable cause is click the link above. Please remember two things when you do: With your donation, please leave the word “Raffle” so we can keep things separate from the non-raffle donations that may come in while the raffle is live. And second, please remember to select “Friends & Family” when you use Paypal so the rescue isn’t charged a PayPal fee. Once you donate, I’ll add you to a master spreadsheet once for each dollar donated ($10.00 means 10 chances to win!).

Please also consider sharing this post with any group that you think might be interested in the raffle.

Thanks so much!

Dave

Tenkar is Raising Money for St Jude's Children's Hospital - Pity the Fool and Show Some Support

Earlier tonight, I did a yoga Livestream with my wife Rachel as my instructor. I was dressed as you see above and we were raising money for St Jude's Children's Hospital. We had an initial goal of $300 and surpassed that in the opening minutes.

As of the writing of this post, we've raised over $785 and hope to raise some more.

At $430, we earned about 8 seconds of Tenkar twerking, so help me God ;)

We have some future "stretch goals".

If we hit $1000 raised before next Friday, I'll die my hair blue and leave it blue for at least a week.

At $1200, I'll walk our dog in Forest Park with my blue hair wearing the outfit shown above. Again, we need to hit this number before Friday, November 5th, 2022.

At $1500, I'll go food shopping with blue hair and "taco cat" pants. The cut-off date on this one is November 30th, 2022.

Again, all for a good cause, and thanks to everyone who has shown support and to all those who do so after reading this post. You f'n rock!

Help Save Some Cats and Get Entered Into a DCC Raffle for Fat Lot! The Tavern Will Match Donations up to the First $500 Raised

Ashley
Every year David Baity runs a raffle to raise money for feral cats. Our current cat, Sadie, is a stray that literally walked in our back door the night after we lost our feline daughter Ashley to cancer. Ashley herself was a rescue.

Cats are a big part of my life and have been for as long as I can remember. The cause is a good one and David is awesome for doing this every year.

Without further distraction, here's David:

Hey Everyone! Long post! But please take a second to read this and share if you think you can boost the signal!

Every year around this time I put on a charity raffle geared towards those who like to play games. 100% of all proceeds go to help a couple of local no-kill feline rescues (Feline Lifeline & Paved Paws Animal League of Greenville SC). If you know me, you know I love cats, so several years ago I decided to try and help some amazing people who work tirelessly feeding, trapping, and fixing feral cats. They also foster and adopt those that can be tamed, or that may have been abandoned. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what they do, so I figure it is only fair that I do this, in hopes of raising money to help provide donations to help them out.

Throughout the year, I collect items to offer as prize support for the raffle, but I am also lucky to have amazing friends who care enough to donate prizes to help add considerable weight to what I am offering. This year has been no exception and I am so touched/grateful to those of you that have reached out with prizes!

The raffle works like this, one ticket is $1.00, and each ticket counts for 1 entry into the raffle. Throw in $5 and you have 5 chances to win. All winners will be announced on 12/24 at 11pm EST, with a celebrity author pulling several random winners to match the number of available prize packages (see below). Winners will be given a choice of prize packages in the order they are drawn.

So, if you have a spare dollar or two, please consider helping me provide for some of my local rescues! Even if you are not a gamer there might be someone you know who is! Hell, you could even throw them up on E-bay if you win, so please consider donating.

The link to donate can be found here

https://paypal.me/mysticmousers?locale.x=en_US

(Add a note that The Tavern Sent You to your donation and The Tavern will match dollar for dollar all donations made by members of this community up to a total of $500. The match WILL NOT be entered into the raffle, just the original donations will be)

Edit: please also add a comment on this post so David and I can track :)

Australia Relief Raffle (RPG Prizes)

Shared from Tales Of The Tentacled Gunslinger as requested.

Australia Relief Raffle
by Mike Harrington
Posted on February 1, 2020

This past year, an early and unusally dry and hot drought season combined with Climate Change, resulted in a horrific series of fires in Australia which continues to burn to this day.

A mindnumbing 1 billion animals are now estimated dead due the fires in Australia fires and more than 15.6 million acres have been decimated. The number of kangaroos, koalas, and others killed keeps skyrocketing and estimates of economic impact to humans is also mindblowing - at least 24 people killed, over 1,400 homes destroyed. The costs of the fires in Sydney alone are estimated at 50 million a day.

Koala Recovering From Burns

David Baity, the author of Dark Trails and himself a firefighter has put together a relief raffle for the animals and people of Australia.

I am posting his letter to the RPG community here in the hopes of boosting the signal.

Here is David:

“Hey Folks, I’ve been working on something special for the last couple of weeks in response to the, truly horrific fires currently plaguing our friends in Australia. If you know me on any level, you probably know I’m a lover of all things feline and do a yearly prize raffle to raise money for local no-kill shelters in my area.

It’s hard to comprehend the death and destruction that the fires raging across Australia have caused and by now, we’ve all seen heartbreaking pictures floating around on the web.

That brings me to the great news I’m sharing with you today. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks reaching out to friends I know in the industry in hopes they might donate some items for a charity raffle geared towards helping the animals and folks currently suffering in Australia.

The response has been amazing! Folks have jumped on board and offered some amazing prize support that I think will help make this raffle a big success! I’m going to list the prizes and donors below but want to lay out the important details first.

There will be one winner for all physical and digital rewards. In the case of multiple digital prizes, we will draw additional names for the extras.

Each $1 donated will enter you once for the drawing. Throw $10 dollars at the cause and you’ll earn ten entries in the raffle.

The raffle will begin 2/01/2020 and end on midnight 02/29/2020 with the winner being determined randomly by someone well known in the community other than myself.

Shipping will be covered for physical prizes, some of which I already have on hand, while others will be mailed directly from our generous donors. In the case of a non-US winner, we will strive to work with you on shipping, but you may be partly responsible for some of the charges.

I’ve chosen Wires (Wildlife Information Rescue Education) and GIVIT after doing some research into current organizations raising funds and think you’ll find them worthy of what we raise.

David Baity has a Raffle with Major Goodies - Benefits Feral Cat Rescue

Every fall for the past few years, David Baity has run a fundraiser / raffle for local feral cat rescues. This is actually an issue close to my heart, as a feral cat had kittens in my yard back in May. I came damn close to snagging one of the kittens before their mom moved them in in early July. Next spring Rach and I plan to get certified by NYC to participate in the catch and release program to spay and neuter feral cats. So yes, David, I have your back.

Here's the posting from David's G+ Posting (note - entries can be purchased through November 11th)

For a look at the prized go to David's G+ Thread linked below

The 2018 Charity Raffle starts today. Please share and donate to
paypal.me/mysticmousers

I’m running late with getting this going, so today is the day! Those of you who know me may be aware of a charity raffle I do every year to help support feline rescue. I always feel bad asking for money, so the idea is to build a treasure vault of goodies people might like through the year and give them away in a random raffle at the end of 30 days.

The community helped me raise just over 3k dollars last year and I hope to make it more this year. Unfortunately, this year the lovely June Hancock of KitsNKats rescue decided to push away from the everyday stress of rescuing, fostering and seeing to the medical needs of felines after several years of helping countless felines. This left me with a dilemma on who should benefit from this year’s raffle.

After doing some nosing around and meeting with some local rescues I’ve decided that Feline Lifeline (you can find them on Facebook and the internet at https://www.felinelifelinesc.org/) is a solid recipient for the money raised from this event. Ralph Carbone is a wonderful man with the heart of a lion, who leads a team of folks that do so much for the felines in the area. They feed feral colonies in addition to catching and having them neutered/spayed, which helps control the population.

In addition, they foster kittens and cats and tend to their various medical needs. After attending a Feline Lifeline meeting I learned that most of the money for food, litter and vet bills come from their own pockets. I’d like to help their cause as much as possible, which leads me to the 3rd “save the kitties” charity raffle. In short, these folks have a huge heart! They give so much of themselves and I’d like to help them with some funds.

Below you’ll see pictures of items I have been buying and begging for over the last year. I tried to cover several avenues of gaming so that there would be something for everyone in the loot pile. Entering is simple! All you have to do is donate $1.00 to the cause. This gets you on the list of potential winners. You are entered once for each dollar you donate, so throw in $10.00 and you have ten entries!

Every penny donated goes towards the charity! At the end of the 30 days, I’ll have someone take the list of names and randomly draw three winners for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. From there, each will have a pick (in order from 1st to 3rd) to build their own prize pack! As you’ll see, several items have been grouped together (as shown) to make the process run smoothly.
So, this is where I beg, plead, ask you to throw a little money towards this effort. Just donating a dollar is huge folks! If you can’t contribute PUH-LEEZE share this post anywhere you think it might get some support! I may add some additional items as we go, but there are already a ton of cool prizes, including board games, miniatures, and RPGs.

Let’s not forget original art from Erol Otus, who took the time to donate an original freaky cat sketch! Throw in art by +Doug Kovacs and +Stefan Poag and you have some unique  prizes!

For folks out of the country. I’ll help as best I can with shipping but considering the weight of these items it might not be feasible to ship. Apologies

Update 10/22: I wanted to take a second and thank everyone for the donations that have been made so far! We're sitting right at 1,700 and I'm hoping we'll get to what I raised last year (3k) by 11/11! Last year I added items to help sweeten the pot and get more folks interested, so this year is going to be no different! I'm adding a brand new board game called "Blood Rage" which is a blast to play (it's in my personal collection). I'm also going to add some D&D 5e products! I'm throwing in a copy of the Players Handbook, The Dungeon Masters Guide and Xanathar's Guide to Everything. And what would this offering be without a set of new dice!?? Again, all it takes is a buck to enter the raffle and have a chance at winning, so throw your name in the hat and spread the word!

Update 10/30: as the end draws near for the 2018 charity raffle I'm adding some fun items in the theme of our favorite tentacled friend! This week's sees the addition of three smaller games perfect for times when some of your group can't show, or for times when you just want something fun and quick! These items will be packaged together asone of the many prize options. Cthulhu Gloom is a fun card game based off the popular Gloom game. Next we have Twilight Creations " Hastur La Vista Baby" which is a fun game based off of their Zombies game. I'm also throwing in a copy of Lost in R'lyeh Card Game by Deluxe Games and Puzzles. These three addition s will be topped off by an adorable 12"plush great for getting those babies into the cult scene before they're cutting teeth! Remember guys, 11/11 is the deadline! All it takes is a dollar to enter to win a metric butt-ton of prizes! Share if you care!

Update 11/03: We're getting close to the end of the raffle and I thought it was time to sweeten the pot! I'm throwing in anotger prize pack for the winners to choose and its Cthulhu themed and brimming with tentacled evil! First, we have a game by Twilight Creations called "Cthulhu Hastur La Vista Baby". Next up is the Cthulhu version of Gloom which is a great card game! Not enough? How about the Lost in R'lyeh card game?? And to get those kiddies into the cult early I'm also throwing in a 12" tentacled cuddle-buddy. Please share and donate if you can! Oops! Almost forgot, Bob Brinkman and the wonderful Sanctum Secorum crew are throwing in a print version of their latest Halloween spectacular! Thanks guys!

Gaming Raffle to Benefit Kits N Kats Rescue of SC

We gamers tend to love our furry friends. Whether they are pets, mounts, familiars, or members of the family, cats, dogs, ferrets, etc. we have a tendency to take care of them. Dark Trails creator David Baity has taken his support to a whole new level by running a pretty amazing, winner take all, raffle to raise funds for Kits N Kats Rescue that uses items from his own collection as the grand prize.

Why Kits N Kats Rescue?
"I had habitually avoided them for years because I’m a total sap for homeless cats, and I think it’s just easier to ignore them than to stop and get sucked into their cause.

That all changed in October. That day, a tiny kitten was set off to the side in a carrier, and as I was checking aquariums my curiosity got the best of me. This little kitten was named Tilly and she was obviously very ill. It broke my heart, and for once I decided to not be one of those folks that just walks by. I found out that Kits N Kats takes the kitties that nobody else wants. It doesn’t matter what is wrong with them, they take them in and get them the medical attention they need, saving many of them from being euthanized. I filled up a cart with food that day and dropped it off on the way out. The thanks I got was unexpected and it saddened me to discover they don’t get much in the way of help.

How many of you would spend every Saturday of your life setting up cages and sitting in a pet food store all day, just in hopes someone will take a cat home that you’re fostering? I know I’m a stingy bastard with my Saturdays, so the fact that sweet folks do this is something I genuinely admire. Firemen are called heroes all the time, but to me, these guys are real heroes. I squirt water on burning things on occasion. These ladies take unwanted animals and refuse to give up on them. They medicate, feed and shelter them until someone gives them a forever home.

Tilly lost her battle to her ailments, sadly, but she went out being loved and cherished every day she was here. She also pulled me into the ring, which is why I’m officially announcing a month-long raffle for a treasure trove of amazing RPG goodness."

For each dollar you donate, David will throw your name into the “fish-bowl-of awesome”.  The charity raffle will last until Midnight, June 5th. In November, David Baity's first raffle raised $900.00 for Kits N Kats Rescue and went to the purchase of food and litter as well as vet costs. This time he is hoping to raise more and he has announced a prize-package that is too good to pass up. To donate simply log in to PayPal and send whatever you can spare to mysticmousers@gmail.com David will update the total every week.

Now then, what does the grand prize winner actually get? The prize package includes a massive amount of content easily worth $300+!!

Help Save a Cat - Maybe Win some signed DCC RPG!

Hey everyone. I had planned on selling this elusive gem of a book for some time now, but a visit to the local PetSmart a couple of weeks ago gave me a better idea.

Three ladies run "KitsnKats Rescue" a no kill shelter for all things feline in my area. I've walked by these folks countless times in the past, because seeing homeless cats always kicks me right in the feelz.

A lot of us own shelter pets, and as I was picking up litter, I started wondering how many of us would have never met our awesome fuzzy companions had someone not of taken their own time and money to keep them alive.

I immediately walked back to the entrance, grabbed a buggy and proceeded to fill it with food to purchase with the intent of leaving it for the shelter.

The astonished look on their faces was a little odd to me until I learned they really don't get much in the way of substantial donations. These three wonderful ladies travel to shelters that put animals down, and actually take the sick ones home, along with those with little chance of adoption. They feed and shelter them in addition to taking them to the Vet, just so they have a fighting chance.

I've made the decision to return with food and litter once a month to continue helping out. One way I'm doing this will be to auction off something I have that you might want 😋 which is why I'm putting this limited edition gold foil book up for grabs as my first sacrifice to all things moggy. It has a little wear on it, and some signatures from special folks who make DCC so special for us!

I'm asking for PayPal donations in the amount of 1.00 for a chance to win it on 10/31 where I'll randomly determine the winner. Multiple dollars will increase your odds, and I'll figure out a fair way to pick a winner by the end of the month. Every penny will go to KitsnKats rescue, and I'll share a pic of the loot I drop off when I make the trip.

Donations can be made to:

PLEASE HELP ME BY SHARING THIS POST!!

Love,

The Baconne Veezard

Back to your bartender. I'll sweeten the deal. The Tavern will match the first $100 in donations made by members of this very generous community. Just post your donation in the comments below. On the off chance The Tavern gets the prize in question, we'll give it away to a random member of the community (US Only - the book is a beast and shipping is a killer outside the states)

Our very own Ashley is a shelter cat, and she endorses this message!

Goblinoid Games has Organized a Fundraiser for Ryan Denison (coauthor Mutant Future)

Ryan Denison lost his wife back in November, leaving him and his 2 year old son in a rough spot. Even though my son was 14 when his mother passed, I understand much of what Ryan and his family are going through. It's not easy. It never is.

+Dan Proctor has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser for Ryan and his family as well as some truly generous RPG PDF and POD bundles in return for donations that reach certain thresholds ($30 and $60). Give what you can if you can. It is the nature of this hobby to be generous as it is a hobby that embraces community. Helping folks out is where it's at.

Here's more from Dan and details on what you can get in return for your generous donation:

I write with profound grief that my good friend Ryan Denison (coauthor of Mutant Future) lost his wife (Suzanne) and mother of their two-year old son abruptly and unexpectedly on November 20, 2015.

I have put together a “donation bundle” to help support Ryan and his family through the next few months as he gets his financial matters arranged. The bundle includes links to many PDF and  a few print products provided by myself and other generous publishers. Supporters will have access to links to download PDFs for free and links to print products that can be purchased “at cost” of manufacture plus shipping.

Ryan is back to work, but Suzanne was the primary provider for the family. There are many, many expenses associated with this loss and getting a new start. In the long term Ryan’s financial situation will stabilize, but in the short term he needs some help to get there.

If you enjoy Mutant Future in particular, or any of my other products and those of my publishing partners, please consider helping my friend by donating to this bundle fundraiser.

There are many great products in this bundle, available at different funding levels. Links for products are valid until April 1st. It works best to already be logged into both RPGnow and Drivethrurpg before clicking to redeem coupons. You may have to copy/paste the links for them to work properly. You can order print products where applicable via RPGnow at cost to print, but you have to cover shipping.

Thank you for your time. I want to extend my profoundest gratitude to my colleagues for contributing products to this cause.

(Please note that I have to manually email links to backers, so please bear with me! Please make sure to provide an email address when backing.)

If you can do more to help Ryan and his 2 year old, please do so.

Gamer / Publisher Needs Help With Medical Bills

If you don't know Mike Garcia, you should. He's the main man behind Occult Moon, the fine folks that bring you Toys For the Sandbox on a weekly basis.

Mike got injured (severely) while working for Oklahoma Department of Corrections, and has had medical problems and bills relating to his injury ever since.

If you can spare some change to a few bucks towards his medical bills, that's awesome. If you can't, and in these trying days of the economy that seems to be getting more and more likely, just pass this post on, so maybe others that can "will".

Gamers are a pretty tight community, and I've seen us come together time and time again for out fellow gamers. Lets keep the tradition going strong.

Mike's giving away a gaming supplement for free to those who donate - Blood of Morpheus. Actually, in truth, he's practically giving it away to any who are willing to even think about donating toward his medical bills - consider yourself on the honor system. It sells for $3 on RPGNow, and no, I haven't done a review for it, because I helped to edit it ;)

All that being said, if you can't donate - please pass this on to others.
