Tavern Chat - Tonight 9 PM Eastern - We Have Much to Talk About!

I've touched on a few topics that have been well received on the Tavern Chat Podcast, and I suspect much of tonight's conversation will evolve around much of what I said in those episodes.

Here are the Tavern Chat Podcast episodes in question:

E401 - The OSR, Inclusivity, Gatekeeping, Walled Gardens, Safe Spaces & a Sweet Gaming Table - pretty much what it says on the tin. It not about politics or justice, its all about control and power. Those that don't have control over their own personal lives wish to exert power over others via social media shaming and fragmenting of communities.

E402 - A Rant about Vagebooking by a Worthless Piece of Excrement - heh - pretty much what it says on the tin too - Here is the screenshot in question:

E403 - Such Positive Feedback - But None Made Publicly for Fear of The Outrage Brigade - although accurate at the time, I have since received many voicemails in support.

If you aren't already a member of the Tenkar's Tavern Discord Server, here's the link to join:

You may be asked to prove you are a live person and not a bot. Shouldn't be hard to accomplish, assuming you are not a bot ;)

Remember, 9 PM Eastern. The voice chat room is on the left side of the page, in the LIVE CHATS section.  We'll be using the Speakeasy channel for voice and #tavern-chat for text and links.

Folks, probably the easiest way to support The Tavern is to use our Amazon link. It costs you nothing more than you were already going to spend on Amazon, and a portion of sales monies goes to support The Tavern. www.amazon.com/shop/eriktenkar "Shop Smart - Shop TenkarSmart" - Ash Williams

  1. You know, if you address college students as an undifferentiated mass and lecture them that they're completely wrong about life, you might not actually be inclusive.

    This is the real world:

For leisure, people choose to spend their available time and money hanging out with people who want to hang out with them and doing what they want to do. They choose whatever reasons they want to do it, and they share them or not as they see fit.

Some people in gaming want to participate in particular ways, because they have been bullied, harassed, or even assaulted in past gaming situations. That's their real world, they are living in it the way they need to, and I think we should let them.

Further, if they have decided to do that and don't want to tell us, that's fine.

People deciding not to spend their money and time on an author they don't agree with is not "censorship" - otherwise, your local bookstore is suffering mightily under your censorship. Creators aren't owed people to play their games, or convention slots, or awards, or anything other than to present what they can and hope that people choose it, play it, and enjoy it. I'm frankly more concerned with helping people who have been hurt than worrying about whether someone deserves an Ennie.

I think that's enough for now.

    - If you teach college students the world has "safe spaces", you are doing them a disservice.

    - I don't disagree with any of this. I disagree with labeling communities as TOXIC because not every member within can pass your litmus test. Broad brushes and generalizations are more dangerous than any single individual.

Further, if they have decided to do that and don't want to tell us, that's fine.
    - Don't disagree but don't see what the point is. If they don't tell us, we'd never know, which is fine. But they do tell us, and label us with broad brushes, and those are the ones I'm addressing.

    - Don't spent your money on authors you don't like for whatever reason you want is fine. We ALL do that. Calling for boycotts after an extended game of "Telephone" where truth is distorted is simply evil. Play with who YOU want, buy from who YOU want, support who YOU want for awards - but mass unfriending, demanding of boycotts, blackballing awards and such goes way beyond that. That starts revolving around desire to control, and I guess when it comes to social communities online I'm a bit of an anarchist. Go figure that one.

As for helping people that have been hurt, the latest Humble Bundle RPG Bundle supports RAINN.
