Giving Away a Bakers Dozen of MegaHeroes Priority ID Cards (Upcoming Frog God / Jim Wampler KS for Late 2018)


We were giving out MegaHeroes Priority Identification Cards at the Frog God Booth at Gary Con this past weekend and we had a few left, so I "liberated" them.

MegaHeroes is +Jim Wampler 's upcoming supers RPG that will be Kickstarted by Frog God Games this fall.

The cards are good for 20% off at the Frog God website. Don't ask me how, look at the pic above and it should be clear ;)

That being said, there are a limited number and they were only distributed at Gary Con. Here is your chance to have one mailed to you anywhere in the world. Well, you have 13 chances.

  1. I like supers RPG's because I feel like I was supposed to be born into a comic book world and not this one. At least when I play supers games I can pretend for a little bit.

  3. I'm not sure I'll play it, but Jim Wampler is a cool guy. I'll back it because he wrote it. Superhero RPG's aren't my cup of tea because the modern setting doesn't appeal to me, and I'm not sure what kind of narrative structure there really is to be had with the genre once it hits the RPG field. It sounds great for people that love hack n' slash, but it fails for me as someone who really likes a long, ongoing story.

  4. The only superhero RPG I've played is "TMNT & Other Strangeness" in the early 90's. I ended up rolling a porcupine mutant who could throw quills or use them as daggers. I loved the character and spent a good amount of time creating him. Unfortunately, I died within the 2nd encounter. (sad trombone)

    I think super RPG's could be really cool because it's another universe where you get to play a not-so-perfect hero.

  5. I like supers RPGs for the same reason I enjoy super hero comics. Heroism. They can do all the things that people that go into public service WISH they could do. Run into a burning building impervious to the heat. Stop a crazed gunman just by wizzing by grabbing their piece. Catch a falling airplane. Grab a car as it's falling.

  6. I'm normally leery of a Supers game when they show up at my table: they're always systems I don't know in settings I'm not familiar with. My own super hero knowledge is poor to middling and the heroes I can talk about at length are all in secondary or alt universe book-lines.

    But then I show up for a session and I'm playing an uplifted octopus in a domino mask fighting crime golden-age style as "The Blotter" while dodging the investigations of my journalist/girlfriend Louis Lovecraft or I'm rocking a vigilantee with half face, a phantom of the opera mask and the capcity to lift small trucks over his head in the pursuit of justice and it all just /clicks./ It creeps into my other games too - look at Cybergeneration and tell me how that game doesn't morph into Batman Beyond the instant the dice hit the table - and at the end of the day it's just FUN. Supers games take the best and worse of real life, turn it all to 11 and then let it rip while granting you, the player, the power to change things . . .

  7. I love the mechanics of old-school Champions and the random goodness of V&V and don't mind being a player in a superhero RPG; however, I really don't like being a Referee. It requires too much prep and errs too closely to linear adventure design — two things that really take the fun out of playing for me.

  8. i think the part i loved most about supers rpg was character creation, either randomly and making up a background on what was rolled or going in with a plan. then we get painful jabs of nostalgia on how long champions seemed to take for combat in the early 90's (granted 7 players was way too many)

  9. Much like D&D was born of wanting to live out fantasy fiction, supers rpgs give us the chance to create our own larger-than-life comic book story. The only superhero rpg I've played regularly is Champions (several editions), though I've looked at many others. I'm excited to see what MegaHeroes has to offer.

  12. As a cloaked visitor from a distant planet, I have become interested in how your unique species has blurred the lines between imagination and reality. If I acquire this artifact and other holy relics from the god of frogs, I will return to my planet with honor and enough zenthros to gather the embers of peace. (Similar to what your magical artists call infinity gems.)

  13. I played Champions (1st ed) when I was a kid. Brings backs lots of good memories. Those style of games still do.

    I had great fun with the Marvel Superhero and Advanced Games in the 80s. I'd love to take Mr. Wampler's new game for a spin!

  17. Before getting into RPGs I was a huge comic fan. A buddy of mine got the Basic D&D box for his birthday in the early 80's, and we learned to play. While I (very much) enjoyed the game I couldn't help but think, I want to play a superhero. Later TSR did come out with their Marvel RPG, we played and it was ok. Over the years my group has indulged me with trying out a bunch of other supers RPGs- V&V, Silver Age Sentinels, Champions, Mutants & Masterminds, and Icons. Some were better than others, some did somethings better than others, but none have been able to stick. I'd love to try MegaHeroes to see if it's the one.

  18. I like super hero rpgs for a change of pace and just the fun of it. It lends itself to a more flamboyant roleplaying experience that can get quite hilarious. I'm gonna grumble about it, but will probably support this kickstarter...if nothing else than I love Frog God Games

  19. We play Marvel Superheroes from TSR when we need a break from the d&d or DCC campaigns. The gm is a Marvel expert and he always comes up with something ridiculous. It's always a ton of beat'em up fun!

I like Supers RPGs because, with a little tweaking of window-dressing, a well-made, full-featured Supers RPG can be reskinned as fantasy, Sci-Fi, espionage, pulp, etc. If a game can replicate Superman, Dr. Strange, Green Arrow, and the Batmobile, it can handle dragons, Jedi, and 007's Aston-Martin.

  23. I love supers RPGs because they let you into the realm of ludicrous possibilities. I remember running a session of TSR's Marvel game where the characters were a Transformers-style (G1!) Dinobot, a speedster named Green Lightning (a Walmart soda brand), a weather controller named Doctor Thunder (ditto), and a guy who was a living magnet. They worked for the United Nations and the game took place in our home town of 22,000 people. It was over the top ridiculous and we had a blast! If there's one style of RPGs where you can really just cut loose, supers is it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to practice my telekinesis while bench-pressing a cement truck.

  24. Growing up I read superhero comics voraciously. It did not matter if it was in the DC or Marvel universe.Admittedly I have not played many superhero RPG's though. Have some and perused some, but I am definitely looking forward to this new one. Why? Frog God Games and Jim Wampler is reason enough.

  25. Never actually played a supers game but I LOVE Mutant Crawl Classics which is basically a supers game... right? Either way, if MegaHeroes is a supers game and it is even HALF as badass as MCC, then in due time I may also love supers.

  26. I grew up on Marvel and DC superhero comics. I'm a latecomer to RPGs having only started playing a few years ago. Naturally, I gravitated towards Supers RPGs. I particularly like Supers RPGs that allow me to capture the feel of Marvel comics or alternatively Warren Ellis' Planetary and The Authority.

  27. Love comics and grew up with the old Marvel FASERIP system. The anything goes feeling is key, but imo so is the 'heroic' part; no trashing folks for wealth and XP - the best systems punish such behavior and reward acts of noble selflessness and sacrifice!

  28. So far superhero RPGs haven't really spoken to me. I think, growin up as a girl, I found comic books etc largely alienating whereas fantasy books like the Lion the witch and the wardrobe had female characters I could identify with.

  29. I'm somewhat interested from the design perspective, but I don't really enjoy playing in the genre. For me, a contemporary setting implies a contemporary ethos, and I can't buy in to modern-day vigilantism.

  30. Interesting! I love superhero RPGs: my favorites are the ones that model the narrative ideals of comic book-style supers, rather than the ones that try to model the "physics" of powers and such. That said, I've played countless hours of Champions, Marvel's FASERIP system, DC Universe, and even (gasp!) Heroes Unlimited! I remember having Villains & Vigilantes when I was too young to realize what having that meant; it's since disappeared :-(

    My current favorite is still Marvel Heroic RPG, but I'm interested in checking out the Valiant Universe RPG and the recently released Sentinel Comics RPG.

Only time I played a Supers game was as an "off night" game for our 2/week 6+ hour AD&D games (damn I miss college+ years) It was MSH and it was actually a lot of fun even though I am 100% a Medieval-ish type S&S player type. I never got into future games like Traveller no matter how many great recommendations. However, this one I really liked because the DM was a Wild Cards fanatic and ran a campaign world using MSH rules but in the Wild Card universe. I then also ended up reading all the books in the 80s. This was well before GRRM became my most anticipated favorite author. I kinda miss those games now, or maybe it was the time ;) hehe.

  32. I love the idea of superhero rpgs. I've got these visons of silver-age Spider-Man swinging through New York. And I remember flipping through the pages of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe thinking of all the possibilities. But so few superhero RPGs can deliver. Elaborate point buy systems are somehow uninspiring and the old roll and get this power seemed to always get me characters with flight and say... shark command. Really hoping for something simple yet diverse with Megaheroes.

    I love supers RPGs because they're the ultimate kitchen sink setting. Anything you want to mix and mash together, you can.

    Plus, themes of heroism are almost inevitable with superheroes, which I love. Deconstruct all you want, but it's hard to argue with the goals of Superman and Batman.
