Here's the Current Intro Hook for Swords & Wizardry: Light

Back home to my desk, refreshed and rejuvenated. I've got 20 requests to catch up with for The Tavern Membership Cards from the weekend, so there's some work to do.

I also plan to start posting the rule modifications and the like to The Tavern's Google Community either later tonight or tomorrow.

In the meantime, I've got the intro hook for S&W: Light (working title for now). The intro will certainly go through revisions, but does a decent job (INHO) of potentially evoking memories in lapsed gamers (which I think is a more viable target audience than totally new gamers).
Remember the days of yesteryear? When battles were won with sharp swords and well timed spells. When wit and daring could overcome most odds, and when they couldn’t, fast feet were worth more than any gold coin. These four pages of Swords & Wizardry: Light will awaken the long forgotten gamer in you with a call to arms! What are you waiting for? It’s time to roll them bones!
Alright, time to get to work crossing out text in my copy of Swords & Wizardry White Box...

  1. I like it, but I wonder... If the focus is bringing in new blood for the hobby, are "lapsed gamers" your target? I thought new gamers were the target audience, based on your Free RPG Day thoughts the other day. Not critiquing -- just thinking out loud.

    1. I think lapsed gamers are an easier catch. They have some game knowledge and fond memories.

My last assignment before retired I stumbled across a number of lapsed gamers who were excited to meet someone still in the hobby.

Something like this would have been perfect to pass out

    4. Understood. Like I said, just brainstorming myself. I saw this on Pinterest just now, which sent me back here. Might a visual like this help your cause?

  4. Sounds good but I'm with Zudrak, by all means keep the old school vibe but it needs to appeal to new blood too.

    1. I'll be including a 3d6 method for combat and saving throw resolutions for those that don't have a d20, so it should be accessible to all.

I do think the lapsed gamer should be the primary target. They are ore likely to "get it" without being shown by a current gamer.

That being said, the plan is to make it approachable by all.
