Traveller: Merchant's Edition ($1.00)

There is a lot to be said about offering free or hugely discounted rules to encourage players to try new rulesets (although there is also an argument that giving rules away for FREE makes some folks think they are worthless)

The Traveller: Merchant's Edition isn't free, but it is only a single buck. Not bad for a major RPG ruleset from one of the larger publishers.

Traveller is the science fiction roleplaying game of the far future. The Traveller Merchant’s Edition is an introduction to the game for newcomers that provides all of the tools you need to create adventures or even an entire campaign. Create bold exploratory traders and merchant princes who travel into the unknown aboard their trusty Type-A2 Far Trader, a rugged merchant ship perfect for frontier space.

Dock your ship at advanced starports, visit strange worlds, encounter alien beings and animals, and make a fortune as you cross the galaxy.

The universe awaits. Welcome to Traveller!

Bundle of Holding - Mongoose 2300AD 2E

I played some of the original Traveller 2300AD RPG back in the early 90s from Game Designers Workshop, and it was a fun game and an interesting setting. I'll admit I haven't thought much of it since then. So many games, and so many choices.

Bundle of Holding is currently offering a Mongoose 2300AD 2e  Bundle. The Starter Collection is 14.95 and includes the Traveller Core Rules 2022, 2300AD Mongoose 2E, and 2300AD Tools for Frontier Living. For approximately 30 bucks, you add 2300AD Project Bayern, Ships of the Frontier, Vehicles of the Frontier, and Aerospace Engineers' Handbook.

Traveller! This Mongoose 2300AD 2E Bundle presents the 2021 Mongoose Publishing Second Edition of 2300AD, the tabletop science fiction roleplaying game about humanity discovering the stars. Three hundred years from now, humanity is claiming worlds far from Earth. Despite nearly destroying itself in the Twilight War, despite all the wars since, humanity has held on and kept its dream alive. Campaigns in 2300AD are about interstellar exploration – war on the far frontier – new colonies on hostile worlds – discovering and understanding alien species – even espionage in the gritty megacities of the Core worlds. Using the Mongoose Traveller 2E core rules, expect a grittier experience – less Space Viking, more Aliens.

This new offer presents the entire 2300AD 2E line, plus the current Traveller Core Rulebook, for an unbeatable bargain price. For just US$14.95 you get all five Mongoose Publishing titles in our Starter Collection (retail value $122) as DRM-free ebooks, including the complete Mongoose Traveller 2E Core Rulebook Update 2022 and the Mongoose 2300AD 2E core rules set (2021), the equipment catalog Tools for Frontier Living, and the 2300AD 2E Referee's Screen.

Second EditionAnd if you pay more than the threshold price of $29.66, you'll level up and also get our entire Bonus Collection with four more titles worth an additional $135.50, including the massive Project Bayern campaign set, Ships of the Frontier, Vehicles of the Frontier, and the Aerospace Engineers' Handbook.

Bundle of Holding - Mongoose Traveller 2e

I had a blast with the original Traveller rules back in the day when dying during character generation was a thing. Now, with Mongoose Traveller 2e, it's not a thing, but the soul of the game has been refined and improved. Not sure I could convince my current group to play a Traveller campaign, but it would surely be fun.

For just US$17.95 you get all three titles in our Player Collection (retail value $100) as DRM-free ebooks, including the complete Mongoose Traveller 2E Starter Set, with the rules and the Fall of Tinath campaign; the versatile Traveller Companion rules expansion; and the newly released Central Supply Catalogue Update 2023.

Kickstarter - Paranoia Perfect Edition

I've been a huge fan of Paranoia since the very first edition - my awesome boxed set that was missing the 2d10 dice that were supposed to have been included. I even playtested a scenario for Hill Sector Blues, and the Yellow Clearance Black Box Blues is still one of the finest RPG adventures ever written.

Mongoose Publishing is Kickstarting a new edition of Paranoia. Sure, there have been a number of editions over the years, but damn, it's such a great game for conventions and one-shots.

About 60 bucks get you the new edition of Paranoia, the Paranoia Perfect Edition in print and PDF, and that includes shipping. I'm in. There are other backer levels, but this one is mine ;)

Say hello to Paranoia Perfect Edition, otherwise known as ‘that cool game with a computer and Troubleshooters, and you shoot everything, and the GM lies, and you die repeatedly but holy cow is that game fun’.

Paranoia created controversy simply by being created. It took the traditional RPG tropes of cooperation, problem-solving and epic adventures against evil and turned them on their heads. Paranoia uses competition, problem-blaming and confusing missions against whatever you were told was evil: a villain, a convenient patsy or evidence of government corruption. Above all else, Paranoia is a roleplaying game that knows it should be fun and entertaining, so it focuses on those and not silly things like plausibility or internal consistency.

You play a Troubleshooter, which is like a volunteer fireman but for police, except it’s not voluntary and people hate you. You receive missions from everyone’s leader and best friend (as required by law), an AI called The Computer. Your job is to find trouble and shoot it. What kind of trouble? Mostly those declared traitors, which includes anyone with a mutant power or who belongs to an illegal secret society.

Oh, your character has a mutant power and belongs to an illegal secret society. So do the other players. And each of you has a laser pistol. Now, play nice! Or shoot each other in the back. That’s more likely.

RuneQuest Archives Offers a Selection of $1 PDFs of MQ1 & MQ2 Releases

Going to give a big shout out to Akrasia from the Akratic Wizardry blog for bringing this to the attention of the Blogosphere. An assortment of Gloranthan and some other Mongoose RuneQuest products available in PDF at OneBookShelf  affiliated storefronts (RPGNow / DriveThruRPG) for a buck a piece.  The MRQ2 stuff is full compatible with Legend (Mongoose's OGL version of the RQ2 rules, also for a buck).  MRQ1 products are less compatible, but are easily mined.  MRQ1 and MRQ2 are both apparently compatible with the upcoming RuneQuest 6.  Follow all that so far?

Here's the list as posted on The RPG Site.

The titles available through RuneQuest Archives are:

RuneQuest

RuneQuest Empires (MRQ2)
Monster Coliseum (MRQ2)
Vikings (MRQ2)
Land of the Samurai (MRQ1)
The Price of Honour (MRQ1)

Glorantha

Glorantha: the Second Age (MRQ2)
Cults of Glorantha (MRQ2)
The Abiding Book (MRQ2)
Pavis Rises (MRQ2)
Dwarfs (MRQ1)
Dragonewts (MRQ1)
Ducks (MRQ1)
Elfs (MRQ1)
Blood of Orlanth (MRQ2)
Dara Happa Stirs (MRQ1)
Fronela

For that price I'm buying the lot.  I'm going to have WAY too much on my plate to read, but that is better then too little.  I haven't run a RuneQuest Campaign since RQ2 and RQ3 (I actually went back from RQ3 to RG2, but that's a whole other story ;)

Traveller - Secrets of the Ancients "The Hunt" and Traveller Compendium 1

It seems like this week is Traveller week, as Mongoose has just released 2 products for the Traveller RPG.

Mongoose has updated the Traveller: Campaign 1, Secret of the Ancients to include the new chapter "The Hunt".  This is the third part in the series, not including Chapter Zero, which is the intro to the series.

I think really appreciate what Mongoose is doing with Secret of the Ancients.  A whole campaign, offered for free, released in chapters is a great way to support the line.  Signs & Portents magazine is also a great free Traveller (and other Mongoose RPG lines) support vehicle.  Great stuff.

Talking about Sign & Portents Magazine, Traveller Compedium 1 is a collection of adventures and articles pertaining to Traveller that previously appeared in various article.  That is both it's strength and its weakness.  It's a strength in that the articles are pretty good, the adventures are nice, and its awesome to have it all in one place.  That being said, you are being asked to pay 21 bucks for stuff that previously appeared for free.  Shame.  Not saying its not worth the cash, but for those willing to spend the time you can pretty much piece this together for free.

Anyhow, here's the blurb:
This first volume of the Traveller Compendiums collates all the most popular articles that have appeared in Signs & Portents over the years, and presents them for the tabletop! Inside you will find new careers, new ships, adventures, patrons, advice on running games, new equipment, newly revealed aspects to Aslan society, and much more!
