Kickstarter - DarkSpace (Sci-Fi Rules for Shadowdark)

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Shadowdark. In the eyes of some in the OSR, for that heresy alone, I should be forced to carry The Dice of Shame. I do strongly believe that Shadowdark has been a net boon to the OSR, and like it or not, as a system, it has brought fresh eyes and blood into the OSR. But I digress. :)

DarkSpace brings scifi to the Shadowdark system, and who doesn't want an opportunity to play some OSR (or OSR-adjacent) SciFi? It's kinda like peanut butter and chocolate.

DarkSpace is a sci-fi rules hack for the award-winning Shadowdark RPG! Use Shadowdark's lightweight rules to craft your own sci-fi adventures in whatever setting and genre of science fiction you want!

This 200-page, HARDBACK edition of DarkSpace expands on the best-selling DarkSpace Core Rules, giving GMs and Spacers many new options for their campaigns:

Revised Archetypes, including the all-new Machine-Based archetype, which expands on the Multi-Function Android archetype from the Core Rules and allows for tech-based spacers, including Power Armor!

DarkSpace PDFs are 19. Print (Hardback with Ribbon *NOT POD) plus PDF is 49. Reasonable pricing, especially for the Print version.

Free OSR - Hulks and Horrors (SciFi Ruleset)

Not only are the rules for Hulks & Horrors PWYW in PDF, but they are also PWYW in Print!

Are you looking to play some science fiction, without straying too far away from classic dungeon crawls and/or hex crawls? (unless you want to!) Hulks & Horrors may be the very game for you.

We are not alone in the Universe, but we have few friends. As we emerged on the galactic stage, we found a universe stripped bare of sentient life by a great Plague, leaving only the wild beasts and twisted plague horrors wandering the ruined hulks of lost civilizations.

We are the Surveyors. We explore the uncharted sectors of space and hunt these ruins for the treasures they contain and the riches they might bring to what sentient life remains. We are not brave, merely foolhardy and desperate. Those who survive become rich beyond dreams. Very few survive. Hulks & Horrors is a science-fiction roleplaying game of galactic exploration and adventure for 2 or more players ages 13 and up. Inside you will find:

  • Complete rules for characters up to Level 6 and beyond
  • 7 character classes: Pilot, Scientist, Soldier, Psyker, Hovering Squid, Omega Reticulan, and Bearman.
  • Easy to learn old-school inspired game rules and combat system
  • Weapons, armor, and equipment inspired by classic science-fiction
  • Spaceship construction and combat rules
  • Random tables for creating whole sectors of space
  • Loot generation rules
  • Dozens of alien monsters as well as guides for designing your own
  • Dungeon-mastering advice for sandbox space exploration
  • Optional rules for customizing Hulks & Horrors

Deal of the Day - Strange Stars (System Neutral Setting)

Trey Causey has done some amazing work in the RPG field over the years, and Strange Stars is probably one of his highest regarded releases. Even if you don't run it as is, due to being system neutral and chock full of ideas, you could literally mine this for ideas in your own sci-fi RPG campaign for years.

Until tomorrow morning, Strange Stars is on sale in PDF(marked down from 9.99) to 4 bucks.

It's the far future, Old Earth is lost and shrouded in legend, and the children of paleo-humanity have long ago populated the stars, branching into new forms and strange cultures. Adventure is measured in light-years!

Strange Stars is a setting for any game where modern transhuman science fiction meets classic 70s space opera. Join a salvage mission to steal ancient tech from the wreck of a deranged sophont warship. Become a skiptracer in the lawless orbital megapolis of Interzone. Plan an elaborate data-vault heist on a diamond planet. Cross ceramic blades with a Zao Pirate in hard vacuum. Score sweet dreams or nightmare fuel from the oneirochemists of Eidolon. It's all somewhere in the Strange Stars!

Adding Entries to the Free OSR Rulesets SciFi Page - Cascade Failure & Terminal Sapce

The Free OSR Rulesets SciFi Page now has 11 entries. Work continues on the Free OSR Rulesets - Other Page.

Cascade Failure - "Cascade Failure is a post-apocalypse future RPG. Set in the aftermath of a devastating war that collapsed the interstellar economy, Cascade Failure is a survival RPG that casts the characters out into a dangerous and hostile universe. The game is built on a rugged OGL chassis that is melded with a variety of new subsystems to round out your character. You can jump into unique character classes like the Kinetic that can move objects with their mind or into a unique alien species like the insectoid Sahael with a hardened exoskeleton and powerful mandibles for biting attacks."

TERMINAL SPACE - "In the beginning (these rules) were to comprise a separate game partially based on simplified Moldvay / Cook edition of the game and partially on my own solutions. After some thought I came to the conclusion that my works would be better suited as supplements for the Original Edition. The aim of this publication is to add a new rule set to help transfer the game to an entire new dimension which is space exploration. Thus these additional materials were created with the thought of settings more heavily  based  in  Sci-Fi  and  Science  Fantasy  genres than  most  of  the  materials  crated  for  0e  so  far.  Even though this supplement is not complete I hope that somebody will find it useful. Kickstarter - Gamma Turquoise: Santa Fe Starport (Alpha Blue / OSR SciFi)

Say what you want about Venger Santanis (and some will ;) - his Kickstarters ALWAYS have amazing (if provocative) art, they are always on time and are a good value for their money.

While I may not have much personal use for Alpha Blue, a starport / mutant wasteland that can be easily ported into White Star IS something I have use for.

That's what Gamma Turquoise: Santa Fe Starport is - starport, mutant wasteland and I expect a whole lotta future inspiration for my White Star gaming. Maybe even port it to Mutant Crawl Classics or Mutant Future.

Basic buy in is 5 bucks for the PDF.
I haven't explored the post-apocalypse genre that often, so this is a big deal to me.  I want to get deep in there and do it right, coming up with weird, outlandish things in a world devastated by cataclysmic forces. PCs will be eating crock-rat and scorpion-skunk roadkill, drinking their own piss, giving hand jobs for precious gasoline, and pretending to worship the glowing faces of a malevolent and insane god that floats somewhere in the yellow smog of the forbidden zone. Not everyone will survive.  In fact, some won't even want to.  That's just the way things are now.
There are already a lot of cool post-apocalyptic RPGs out there.  Gamma Turquoise: Santa Fe Starport will focus on making your after-the-bomb gaming experience more awesome.  I strive to hit that sweet spot between rules-light and rules-non-existent, where flavor, story, ideas, artwork, scenario seeds, and random tables dominate.  Indeed, this book will have utility far beyond the scenario presented.  You'll want to give this to your grand-kids when they go off adventuring in post-apocalyptic lands.
I provide you with the finest tools so that YOU can create your own irradiated landscape full of mutated skeezoid scum dogs (tentacled, of course).  But this won't be a lame outline that you have to flesh out.  No, you're in good hands - Venger's warlock hands!
If you want a lot of crunchy, bloated, system nonsense that has no business being in a toolbox like this, then move along.  Nothing to see here...
