Magic the Gathering - ABC Local News Piece KVIA Texas - "Magic the Gathering players struggling to weed out sex offenders"

Earlier tonight KVIA 7, a local affiliate of ABC, aired a piece on sex offenders in the Magic the Gathering Community.

This bit of controversy is not going away quietly.

Link to the 2 minute 23 second long video is here (along with the article):

There is a nice piece of history as to what caused this all to come to the surface:

Argument over Magic the Gathering card game leads to Stabbing

Wow. I guess I should be glad I never understood how to play Magic the Gathering.
A 31-year-old St. Cloud man is facing assault charges after allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man seven times over an argument during a Magic the Gathering card game early Friday morning, according to St. Cloud police.
Around 12:06 a.m., police responded to the 1200 block of St. Germain Street E on a report of a stabbing.
Elijia Dale Creech called 911, saying he stabbed a man at his apartment and he was dying.
Investigators learned the two men were playing Magic the Gathering trading card game when an argument broke out.
The discussion escalated and led to Creech hitting the man in the face with a rubber mallet and stabbing him seven times...
Full article is at the Fox9 Website.

I can only imagine what set off the argument:

"You already tapped that land! Wait, that card was banned back in 2000!" Smack!

Magic the Gathering to be a Movie Franchise!

Thanks to +Erik Jensen and +James Aulds for bringing this to my attention.

From the Hollywood Reporter website:
20th Century Fox has closed a deal to acquire the hugely popular fantasy card game from Hasbro and will develop the property with an eye to launch a massive franchise on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
This will be either really sweet or suck ass. We do know the Dungeons & Dragons movie franchise sucks ass.

My favorite quote from the article:
Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis and Wizards of the Coast president Greg Leeds will act in produce capacities. (emphasis mine)
So, are we going to push the movie in the "produce aisle" of the local supermarket?

Yeah, I make typos all of the time, but I'm a lowly blogger ;)
