Humble Bundle - 2000 AD Character Spotlight (Comics)

I think I've mentioned this before, but I'm a huge fan of digital comics. If you had asked a younger me if that would ever be the case, I'd have scoffed. The thing is, as an adult, I no longer have the space to store endless comics, and the superhero comics I read in my youth no longer interest me in any case. 2000 AD has ALWAYS interested me, and I jump on the various 2000 AD collections when they show up on Humble Bundle the moment they appear.

It's 18 bucks for the 2000 AD Character Spotlight Bundle, and you get 34 releases, ranging from Judge Dread to Slaine and beyond. I do believe the Absalom Collection appeared in a prior bundle, but that's a small quibble. You can buy a smaller, and cheaper, bundle, but I do think $18 is by far the best value with months of reading in your future.

Humble Bundle - Judge Dredd: Perps, Punks, and Partners (Comics)

I used to be a huge collector of comic books in my teens and 20s. There was just something about reading books with art that was special. My local comic book store didn't carry Judge Dredd or the 2000 AD titles, because those weren't "American", but I would make occasional trips to Forbidden Planet on 13th Street in Manhattan and I'd always leave with some Judge Dredd and the like to fill the holes in my collection.

Most of those comics are gone now, either by choice (and downsizing purge) or by fate (a flood in the basement). I'm building my new comic book collection digitally. It stores much easier ;)

The Humble Bundle - Judge Dredd: Perps, Punks, and Partners is 25 bucks for 54 items. Its the pricepoint I'm jumping in at, but you can grab a smaller selection for as little as a buck.

Humble Bundle - Masters of British Comics

I remember my first exposure to Judge Dredd and the 2000 AD world of comics. It was at Forbidden Planet on 13th Street in Lower Manhattan in the mid-80s, and I didn't care if the issues were new or old, I just knew that they were new to me.

I still have a special affection for Judge Dredd and 2000 AD, so seeing the large collection of titles available with the various titles included in the Masters of British Comics Bundle. 25 bucks get you the following 64 titles. You can purchase for less for a smaller selection of titles.

Bundle of Holding - Worlds of 2000 AD

I was a HUGE Judge Dredd / 2000 AD fan in my college days. There was just something about the comics - over the top, gritty, and far from other comic book fares for the time.

When I saw that ENWorld Publishing had the RPG licenses for 2000 AD and other related IP, I wasn't all that excited. Maybe it was the time between when I collected and now, or the fact that it used the WOIN System, which really didn't do much for me.

All that being said, for 7.95 for the Worlds of 2000 AD Rulebook Collection, including Judge Dredd & 2000 AD, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper, and the Judge Dredd GM Screen is a price point I can buy in at, even if only for the setting material and background stuff. The threshold price (about 19 bucks) includes the Adventure Collection with seven more Judge Dredd RPG supplements worth an additional $49, including the Luna-1 Sourcebook, five full-length adventures (The Apocalypse War, The Cursed Earth, The Judge Child, The Day the Law Died, and The Robot Wars), and the Case Files Compendium of short scenarios.

Bang for the buck, I suspect the Rulebook Collection is all I need. YMMV.

21 days left for this offer as I type this.

Humble Bundle - Judge Dredd, 2000 AD, & More

I was a huge fan of the 2000 AD, Judge Dredd, and related comics back in my college days in the late 80's. I'd make my trips to Forbidden Planet and stock up on a couple of months worth at a time.

To be able to snag Judge Dredd, 2000 AD, & More for as low as a buck is mind-blowing. I expect to mine my $15 purchase for many adventure ideas :) Covid-19 and comics - perfect together ;)

We've teamed up with 2000AD for our newest bundle! Get comics like Zombo Book 1, Counterfeit Girl, Best of Tharg's Future Shock, Judge Anderson: Psi Files 2, Zenith Book 1, Brink Book 1, 2000 AD's Greatest: Celebrating 40 Years, and Halo Jones Book 1. Plus, your purchase will support War Child and Special Effect!

2000 AD / Judge Dredd coming to EN Publishing

My first Judge Dredd RPG was published by Games Workshop. Later, I found the Mongoose version. Soon we will have an EN World version. Colour me very surprised (see what I did there?)

Here's some of the official announcement:
EN Publishing, under license with Rebellion, are developing a range of Tabletop Adventure Games and supplements based on the iconic characters and worlds found in the legendary British comic 2000 AD.
“2000 AD has forty years of rich history and storytelling and this worldwide license allows us to explore those characters and stories and bring them to the tabletop” Angus Abranson, Business Manager of EN Publishing said.
The first release will be Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD Tabletop Adventure Game, a full colour hardcover book which contains the core ‘Worlds of 2000 AD’ rules as well as setting information enabling the players to not only play Judges, but also civilians and perps, in Mega-City One.
“The rules system we’re using is our own WOIN (What’s Old Is New) engine that also powers our N.E.W. – The Science Fiction Roleplaying Game which spent some time as the #1 best seller on RPGNow” said system designer and EN Publishing Owner, Russ Morrissey. “The system is incredibly flexible and can cater seamlessly for the Celtic environs of Slaine to spacefaring hijinks of the Ace Trucking Co.”
Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD will be followed by a series of adventure sourcebooks giving players and Game Masters the opportunity to play through the story arcs that made Judge Dredd such an enduring character.
“We’ll be publishing a series of books, starting with The Robot Wars, which will not only allow players and GMs to play through the events that took place in the comic arc, but also add to the game setting with additional rules or source material relevant to the period or location. So, for instance, Robot characters will be expanded in The Robot Wars whilst in Luna-1 we’ll be providing detailed information on the moon colony and life there” Nick Robinson, Line Developer for the Worlds of 2000 AD Tabletop Adventure Game said. “The idea is to move chronologically through the classic story arcs in the 2000 AD Progs providing adventures for not only Judges, but for those players who may wish to explore the Dredd universe from a different perspective – that of a Civilian or even a Perp. Each book will contain a core adventure, mini-adventures based upon the other story arcs at the time, as well as expanded settingand rules information.”
In addition to the support material for the Judge Dredd campaign a series of ‘Campaign Guides’ are planned which will cover other 2000 AD settings.
You can read the rest of the announcement here.

I'm not a huge fan of the WOIN system, but many of us buy this still not for the system but for the setting.

Friday Afternoon Double feature at The Tavern - Dredd and Prometheus

So, when you are on vacation AND sick as a dog, what is one to do?

Watch DVD's of course!

So, I settled into bed with the dog and the cat and watched some movies this afternoon.

The first movie up was the new Dredd. Now, I remember the pretty campy movie with Stallone from back in the day (and the "You can do eet!" guy), which was fun if horribly stupid. The new one (in which I have absolutely no idea who the actors were) was surprisingly good for what it was - a slow motion bloody gorefest. I tried to reconcile it with the on 2000ADs I used to buy on newsprint back in the day, but I'm so far removed from that I couldn't tell you how well it kept to the Dread mythos. Still, a damn fine thrill ride.

Next up was Prometheus. It was - not bad, but not all that great either. Plot spoiler, but I still don't understand why the android infected the Ben Afleck (Charlie Halloway) look alike. Yeah, it's like Aliens with the serial numbers scratched off, until the last scene where they put the serial numbers back on. Which makes sense, as it's the same universe, but I found stuff to be both confusing (again, why the  infection? to bring back a bio agent to earth? if so, why the acceptance of the doc after she aborts her ill conceived aberration?) and predicable at times (I know I've watched too many movies when I can say the lines of a new movies before the character does

I mean, Judge Dread left me all hyped at the end, and I'm sick as a dog. Prometheus left me still feeling ill.
