Since We Are Talking About Iridia - How About that "Freecity of Haldane"?

I've been a reader of +Christian Walker 's musings on RPGs since the very beginning, and through it all, The Freecity of Haldane has always stuck out as something special to me.

Detailed enough to seem real, but not so detailed that the details get in the way of running it. Probably my favorite presentation of an urban environment I've come across in my years of gaming.

Thanks to +matt jackson for making me think of such things today and to mwschmeer for keeping the archives ;)

Found! Free City of Haldane (Iridia #87)

I've been trying to find The Free City of Haldane for the better part of a year. I knew I had it somewhere, but I didn't expect to find it in a bunch of papers sitting inside a box of RPGs destined for storage. All because I was trying to track down by softcover copy of Swords & Wizardry Complete (I think that must currently be IN storage - I'll track it down of Friday).

This was a classic issue in Christian's old Iridia zine. I'm glad I found it just in time for the kick off of The City of Haldane series in his Loviatar zine :)

I'm looking forward to the new version, but I'm extremely happy to have my old version too.

No More Destination Unknown

Its the end of the blog Destination Unknown.  The RPG Corner was nice enough to post Christians farewell before the blog went down.  I missed it myself, so I'm lifting it from the RPG Corner for a repost here.  I hope no one minds.

Hello all,

The blogging has been a lot of fun, but I've decided it's time to head back to zines forever and for good. I've really enjoyed the experience and plan on following your blogs for a good, long time.

For the new year I've been trying hard to get back to basics: gaming, cooking, surfing and writing. The writing part has been a huge challenge because of how much time I spend online. I really want to cut down and that and focus on face to face or at least reaching out to people with print media.

We'll see how it goes!

I will be sending you (well, some of you ;) ) stuff in the mail soon, so be on the look out.

Peace
Christian

Anyhow, if you like Christian's stuff, you can find his current zine, Iridiazine and downloads of his older zines here.  Christian's zine is a print, dead tree, delivered to your mailbox zine.  Send him a donation to get the paper version, or DL the zine for free from the site.  In any case, its well worth your time.

All the best lad.  :)

P.S.  Gonna miss the Cooking blog too

Iridia - A Great (FREE) RPG Resource

If you don't know about Iridia, you really should. It's an RPG-zine... not quite a magazine, but usually more then a newsletter. It's a product of love and devotion by Christian Walker.

To be fair, I've been reading Christian's stuff for a while now. He put out Scrollworks back in the early part of this decade which was purely a printed / snail mailed e-zine.

These days he puts out Iridia on a fairly regular basis... regular when it's not replaced by the Newsletter of the Lincoln Middle School Dungeons & Dragons Club. Fun stuff :)

In any case, you can get nearly all of his stuff for free (donations appreciated) from the above linked website. I'm looking at my printed / snail mailed copy of issue 87 as we speak, which is a 20 page, digest sized, city supplement for Labyrinth Lord from this past February. You can find it for free on the site.

Enjoy the goodies and tell Christian I sent ya! ;)
