Yep. This was the last update for Champions of Zed. See that email? It's apparently dead now. One person in the comments section reported getting their copy. Everybody else? "Where's mine?"
Now, as Daniel states above he intended to have "them all sent by the holidays" and it doesn't state which holiday or year, I guess the idea is to keep the backers guessing.
Did I mention it's estimated ship date was August of 2012? Hey, at least we know Gareth, Mike and Ken might possibly come through on some level with physical rewards. Alright, maybe not Mike, but her get's points for admitting he fucked up. Daniel? Who the hell knows.
This could be another Myth & Magic fiasco assuming a percentage of copies start arriving to random mailboxes. Actually, another M&M update post should be around the corner.

I did receive my hardcover about a month after he posted that, so they are real. The production value is quite low, slightly less attractive than a Lulu print book.
ReplyDeleteI received mine shortly after that update as well.
ReplyDeleteit's good to see some have received theirs
ReplyDeleteYep got mine too. By the time I got I could really have given a fuck though.
ReplyDeleteI got my copy. Nothing spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a copy at my FLGS this week.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question, "have you seen this creator," he does seem to still be around, as this Blog shows:

It's official. I've launched a kickstarter project to raise funds for a limited print illustrated hardback edition of Champions of ZED
I'm excited to have some great artists lined up for the project, including Jennell Jacquays.
Please have a look at the kickstarter page and consider becoming a patron!

For those who may not have see it in my kickstarter update, I'd want to point out another kickstarter project you might find interesting - Nystul's Infinite Dungeon - an old school dungeoncrawl by none other than Mike Nystul of Nystul's Magic Aura fame....
---------- Snip ----------
His most recent post was on July 13, 2015, a blog post about "Clerics of Blackmoor."
Still haven't received mine and have given up believing I ever will. Same goes for the Brave Halfling Publishing stuff, I truly don't think I'll ever receive anything.
ReplyDeleteAfter these experiences (and others) I don't back Kickstarters anymore, but instead wait for products to show up in outlets.
I think the concept of Kickstarters began in . . . Vegas.
ReplyDeleteThere should certainly be odds given on some of them, as they are real long shots to "win."
DeleteI got mine a month or two ago. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for it has long since dissipated, and it went straight to the shelf essentially unread. I personally find "dragons of dawn" a much more interesting project.
ReplyDeleteIIRC that's the game which was was meant to be OD&D the way Arneson played it. The main thing I remember is how there was a quote from Arneson in the book saying they never used classes. Then the game goes on to list the classes you can use. I always thought that was pretty funny.
DeleteStill haven't gotten mine.
ReplyDeleteI got mine about a month after that post as well. I thought it was pretty good, but not sure how accurate it is to Dave Arneson's rules. It is a sturdy nice hardback though.
ReplyDeleteI was one of the people who got his. I assumed that other people had received their copes and was shocked to find out that they had not, but that he had stopped communicating online.
ReplyDeleteThe Dragons At Dawn stuff was way better than this game though.
Such a sad wreck of a project.
I was one of those that added to the comments on the KS when mine arrived after that post. I liked what I saw and was impressed by the book construction, but as others have said, the glow had otherwise worn off, so I skimmed through it quickly and then put it on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I am thankful that money has become tight for me as it makes it much easier for me to pass on backing Kickstarters. There are some great ideas out there, but I have definitely been burned one time too often. So it is very hard to choose to back an unknown entity regardless of how exciting the project seems.
I received mine. Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteThe production value is low, the layout sucks, artwork is sparse, and when I read it there were some interesting ideas in there but overall it's not anything I will ever probably use. I no longer remember or understand why I backed this project.
I blame my excitement on this and many other OSR related Kickstarters on going through my mid life crisis...
