Myth & Magic Player's Guide Magically Missing for Majority of Kickstarter Backers

The above are the latest comments from the Myth & Magic Player's Guide Kickstarter. I've edited out names of the backers, as Tom has been known to have a vindictive streak against those that call him out on his "mistruths" (Tom is a lawyer, so we have to be careful. Besides, Tom was nice enough to post my full name and shipping info in the comments section when I called him out earlier. Then he shipped my book - but apparently it was just to shut me up).

I'm really beginning to think that the Dark Side of Kickstarter is inhabited by Toms, Gareths and Mikes. The fact that Mike comes out as the lesser of three evils yet again is telling - I'd prefer a fool over a vindictive "mistruther" and a full of shit publisher.

All three seem to have figured out that if all you have are lies and half truths to give to your backers, you're better off hiding. Mikey figured that one out a bit quicker than the other two, and is the only one to come clean with his foolishness and failures. I'd actually have a drink with Mikey, so long as he paid for his own tab up front. I'm not THAT stupid ;)

  1. If he has product to mail to you why not send them all out?

    1. Probably was only able to afford a fraction of what was ordered, or possibly can only afford to ship a fraction of the books.

    2. It's like that Brave Halfling guy and Appendix N. Apparently he has product, but it's just somehow so difficult for him to mail things, and everyone he hires to do it quits.

Except somehow he can get them to retail....

    3. Shipping for long overdue kickstarters has or will become a bear. More projects will eventually feed the beast if the project creators aren't careful (and sometimes even if they are).

  2. Not holding my breath that I'll ever see my player's book or the Quantum rpg books, and happy I was smart enough not to pledge for GMG or the Quantum setting books.

    1. Likewise.
Have the finished M&M PDF at least, which I can raid for ideas to freshen up the version of D&D it's based on. That's more than I have for Axes & Anvils.

Didn't back Quantum, so don't know how they compare. I hear the project runner had to get a regular day job to support himself as the KS funds have run out, is that correct?

    2. As far as Quantum, I'll be honest, I don't know if he's had to get a job or not, I've quit reading what few updates get sent out.

  3. Tales & Thaumaturgy: A Handbook for Participants. Good one.

  4. A drink with Mike, eh?

    You're so soft. LOL

  5. Ugh, every time I see these updates I'm thankful I ended up choosing not to back this project. I thought it looked great but I was just not a big enough fan of 2E to put up the money. Talk about a lucky decision. No such luck on the Dwimmermount project though. I totally backed that one. Got burn burn burned for sure. Most of the others I've backed have been fine, if a bit late. But I was also lucky enough to back some of Joseph Blochs work. And he actually delivered EARLY. And the product is rock solid. It's almost enough to get me to back more projects. But not quite. Too many horror stories like this floating around.

  6. Heh, I wasn't in on this one. It is Nystul that raises my ire.

Someday I want to know the extent of the stupidity he committed between the money hitting his bank from Amazon Payments and the Brewster's Millions-esque attempt to waste as much money as possible with nothing to show for it approximately 30 mins later...meh.

I got this in an update today...It makes me feel sorry for guys who overestimated their abilities and really had no idea about expenses involved in a large project...."Suffice it to say that my misery is manifold. This kickstarter has ruined my life, my finances, and my business. It has all but totally killed my will to produce new art. It has strained my relationships with my family and friends and business colleagues. It only appeared to be profitable and never was. I have spent many thousands of dollars from what little profits my regular business has been able to eek out over the last 12 months, trying to settle dilemmas that relate to the fulfillment and production issues of this project.

This project was supposed to be the great new beginning for my business and instead it has been a very slow and painful death."

    1. Whoa. That's pretty damn emo. Must be an elf, possibly Drow sub-variety.

    2. That seems the likeliest scenario : )

    3. I wish he'd move to Dallas, we have a really nice homeless shelter here, and sometimes the gourmet restaurants in town even man the food trucks that park across the street...
