Awaiting The Fire

Yep, I'm waiting on the delivery of my Kindle Fire today. Well, technically I'm at work and my son is waiting for the delivery, as he is off today, but lets not split hairs.

I'm hoping this is a viable and affordable alternative to the iPad. I love my iPad, but carrying a $800 piece of electronics on the NYC Transit System is probably the choice of fools. Carrying a $200 piece of electronics on the NYC Transit System is probably also foolish, but $600 less foolish ;)

I want to see how well the Kindle Fire handles my PDF collection. More tonight.

  1. PDF's have been around for some time, but they are not well suited for running a game. EPubs offer a different experience. I can stand up, show images, lay it down to show a map, listen to background music, roll dice, access applications that have indexed the rules nicely (thank you iTunes for PFR), set up and track initiative, etc. all in one tool.

In essence I believe that running a game from one device, sans backpacks full of heavy ass books is great. I know that my partner and I are looking for ways to increase the usability of our products through ePubs. We believe ePubs to be the as yet untapped future tool for GM's once tablets have soaked into the market.

I'd like to hear back from you on how the Kindle Fire would fare as an all-in-one GM tool such as I've described.
