Deal of the Day - Tome of Essential Horrors 1 (OSE)

Need more creatures for your OSR campaign? The Tome of Essential Horrors from Frog God Games/Necromancer Games may be just what you need. I've always enjoyed the various Tome of Horrors releases from FGG, and The Tome of Essential Horrors is simply more creature goodness. Until tomorrow morning, The Tome of Essential Horrors is the Deal of the Day, marked down to 7.20 (normally 17.99).

It has been over 20 years since Necromancer Games first unleashed the Tome of Horrors, and our philosophy has not changed... everybody needs more monsters! Necromancer Games has always been known for its monsters, and with the Tome of Essential Horrors, we would like to introduce those unique and mysterious creatures to your Old-School Essentials table.

This beast of a book contains over 100 monsters and brings classic monsters from Frog God Games and Necromancer Games to OSE referees and players. Each entry includes a full OSE stat block, classic black-and-white art, and an interesting encounter that highlights the creature.

The Tome of Essential Horrors contains all you need to gleefully exceed your players' expectations. Can the heroes escape the clutches of the witch tree, the riptide horror, or the cave fisher? Will they survive the pyrolisk’s conflagration gaze? We cannot guarantee a TPK every time, but you’ll have buckets of fun trying!

Kickstarter Update - Tome of Horrors: Reborn for Fifth Edition - Now with Spreadsheet of Monster / Creature Entries

Last night Frog God Games updated the Tome of Horrors: Reborn for Fifth Edition Kickstarter with a spreadsheet covering all of the current monster / creature entries for the new book. The damn spreadsheet is 10 pages long - heh.

Here's the first page:

You can read the update here or grab the spreadsheet directly from here.

I know some Tavern readers were looking for this info.

Kickstarter - Tome of Horrors: Reborn for Fifth Edition (Frog God Games)

If you are a 5e gamer - DM or player - this is probably a book you don't want to miss. Tome of Horrors: Reborn for Fifth Edition. I have the Swords & Wizardry edition and it is awesome. Heck, I'm tempted to grab the 5e version with all the new color art simply for the art.

Or I can get a set of Tokens of Horrors. What's that? That is this (punch out printed tokens and VTT versions):

At least 200 tokens. 20 bucks for the VTT and 40 for the punch out type AND VTT version. I think I'm in for tokens. Shit. They simply are system neutral.

What? You want pricing on the actual book? Hardcopy starts at $50 (and includes the PDF) That's a damn fair price for a Frog God book.

Damn it. Why the hell am I jonesing for tokens. I'll actually need to start using them ;)
Frog God Games' wants to unleash the next iteration of its iconic Tome of Horrors series for 5th Edition . Hordes of sinister adversaries, restless dead, and other horrific monstrosities to gleefully challenge your players' expectations. Bursting with hundreds of creatures, new additions as well as converted classics, in a library-bound and stitched full color volume, the next Tome of Horrors will be a must have for your 5th edition campaign.
Everybody needs more monsters.

These days I swim in the Frog God pond. They publish and distribute for free Swords & Wizardry Light and allow me to work the booth at cons. I work for a warm bed and three hots at cons- and beer. And yes, I'm definitely backing for the tokens ;)

Tome of Horrors 4 - Free with Purchase of TOH Complete or 1/2 Off on It's Own - Print

I should have passed this on earlier, but I'm behind in reading my emails:

Very good deal, whether you play Swords & Wizardry (or other old school RPGs) or gods forbid - Pathfinder.

I love my Tome of Horrors Complete for S&W - almost worth it for the adventure seeds alone.

The Frog God website can be found at this link.

Sale ends tomorrow.

Mini Review - Tome of Horrors 4 (S&W Monster Book)

I'm a big fan of The Tome of Horrors Complete for Swords & Wizardry. It's a hefty tome, but it adds so many options for OSR styles gaming as far as monsters go, it's almost indispensable. Almost. The price is a horror for many, even if the hard cover includes a PDF copy in the price.

Did I mention my wonderful cat knocked a glass of water off the desk and onto my copy of The Tome of Horrors Complete below? That was a year or so ago. Damage was minimal and obviously she (the cat) still lives.

ToH Complete isn't so complete anymore, with the addition of Tome of Horrors 4. $44.95 for the print + PDF (and 5 bucks for the Pathfinder version and 50+ pages - Pathfinder certainly can be a bloated system). Is it worth you dollars?

It depends.

Are you a completist? If you own ToH Complete, you'll certainly want ToH4.

Are you a monster junkie? This is a well presented monster book with awesome art and an adventure seed for each monster.

Are you writing your own adventures for you group? You can keep them on their toes by introducing monsters from the ToH series.

Are you running a published campaign / series of modules / megadungeon? Much less valuable for you.

ToH4 is very well done and is worth the price for me, but it may not be for you. It's a bit of a niche product. Monstrosities is probably the monster book to start with if you need a basic monster book for your OSR campaign.

The Unnamed Dragon FINALLY Reviews The Tome of Horrors Complete for Swords & Wizardry

Well, the Unnamed (as of yet) Dragon finally got around to reviewing The Tome of Horrors Complete for Swords & Wizardry.  He didn't have an easy time with it (as you can see in the bloopers at the end of the clip) and I think he refers to it as The Tome of Horrors for Swords & Wizardry Complete, but what do you want, he's just a dumb dragon!  heh

You still have time to enter the Name the Dragon Contest.  Entries close around 6pm NYC time tomorrow, October 2, 2011.  Enter as many names as you would like, but only one will be entered into the poll to decide the winner(s).

It Ain't Heavy, It's My Tome of Horrors

I'm still in awe of the hardcover version of the Tome of Horrors. The sucker is huge and heavy. It compares very favorably to a nice sized single volume encyclopedia is size and weight.

According to an email I received last night, my X-plorers boxed set should be shipping shortly. Sweet!

The fiancee was nice enough to ask me where I'll be storing all the new goodies I've ordered. I reminded her I already bought the shelving ;)

I Got My Tome of Horrors Complete Today!

Yep, The Tome of Horrors Complete (Swords & Wizardry) was waiting for me when I arrived home today.  About the only gaming book I can attempt to compare it to is Ptolus.

It is a massive book.  I am eager to start thumbing thru it.  Expect a video blog starring the ToHC in the next day or two.

Frog God Freebies!

Frog God, the purveyor of many books for Swords & Wizardry, has released some things for free.  Foremost is the compilation of Lairs from the Tome of Horrors Complete: Swords & Wizardry version.

It's a great way to get a good peek at some of the work put into that awesome book.  I'm still waiting on my hard cover copy (love the PDF... so I'm not complaining TOO much ;)

Oh, and theres some other stuff for free too.  I'm just too busy looking at the Lair write ups, which is silly, as I have them in the ToHC: SW PDF.  It's just that they are such a nice neat package here.

There Are Some Extra Copies of Tome of Horrors (S&W Version) Available

According to Mythmere, there should be an extra 100 or so copies of Tome of Horrors (S&W Version) available for purchase.  If you buy a book (which should be shipping in about a month) you get the PDF for free.  If you buy the PDF directly from Frog God, and follow the instructions laid out by Mythmere, you can decide later to purchase the hard cover and have the price you paid for the PDF applied to you payment.  Not technically saving you anything, but it does let you buy the PDF and see if you want the HC.

Personally, I'm trilled by the PDF myself and I'm eagerly awaiting the hardcover to go on my bookshelf.  I need to review this beast of a book in depth in the future.  It is worth every penny IMHO.  Not sure if I'll be using it with S&W Complete or with Adventurer Conqueror King, but it's definitely going to get use.
