Free OSR - Cha'alt (Gonzo Setting/Adventure)

I should number these Free OSR posts, but I'm too lazy. :)

Venger—love or hate him- produces some excellent material for your Old School campaign. Cha'alt is a bit of a setting book, a bit of an adventure module, and 100% gonzo. Even if gonzo isn't your cup of tea, for the price of FREE, can you really go wrong?

Cha'alt is the beast of a book (218 pages) I've been working on for the past year.  It's a ruined world focusing on a couple of introductory dungeons before getting to the main event - the megadungeon known as The Black Pyramid.

The Black Pyramid is like nothing you've ever seen before.  Unique design, purpose, feel, magic items, NPCs, monsters, factions, motives, agendas, strangeness, the works!

There's a decent amount of setting detail besides dungeoncrawling - space opera bar, domed city, mutants, weird ass elves, desert pirates, a city ruled by a gargantuan purple demon-worm, and much more!

Cha'alt is compatible with both old school and 5e D&D purposefully blended for maximum usability.  Full disclosure: aside from advantage/disadvantage and bounded accuracy, there isn't much in the way of 5th edition mechanics. It's predominantly OSR.

I've included my own Crimson Dragon Slayer D20 as an appendix, but you can use any of the hundred RPG systems available to run Cha'alt as your own.  The rules-language is fairly neutral, and my priority was helping the Game Master at the table.

The world is gonzo, eldritch, science-fantasy, and post-apocalyptic.  It's a wild ride, perfect for those players seeking something a little bit different, but also recognizable.

The interior is gorgeous full-color art, layout, cartography and Lovecraftian aesthetics.  Gold ENnie winner Glynn Seal of MonkeyBlood Design went above and beyond his usual fantastic job.  Give the new 32 page preview a look.  I spared no expense making Cha'alt fantastic - this world is alive and spilling over with possibilities.

Cha'alt should give you years of solid, non-standardized gaming.

Free OSR - Cha'alt

Love him or hate him, it's hard to argue with Venger's talent as an old-school creator. If you like gonzo, Cha'alt will likely be a subtle choice for your palette. If you aren't a fan of gonzo, at the price of FREE Cha'alt is an excellent source of inspiration for its less gonzo pieces.

Kickstarter - Primordial Chaos: Gonzo Like A F@cking Boss

Venger Satanis leads you by the tentacle, showing you how to make your gaming more gonzo and accessible for novices and veterans alike.

If you watch my videos and live streams, you know I have no issue with the f-bomb, let alone using it myself. That being said, I think I may need to avoid using it as part of the title of a blog post.

Primordial Chaos: Gonzo Like A Fucking Boss, is Venger's latest, and possibly last, Kickstarter, as V has announced his retreat from the hobby after this Kickstarter fulfills. As I'm writing this, I'm listening to the latest (last episode?) of Inappropriate Characters, with Venger as one of the hosts. Its the end of an era.

Whether Venger is within your wheelhouse is a personal decision, and Venger doesn't shy away from offending large segments of the gaming community. All of which is a shame, as he is a very skilled creator.

Primordial Chaos: Gonzo Like A Fucking Boss is 20 bucks in PDF, but I do advise you add a Cha'alt Hardcover book (or the Cha'alt Trilogy) to your backing - it makes the Primordial Chaos PDF essentially free ;)

Unformed, omnipotent, oscillating, undulating, chromatic, prismatic, and ultra-telluric.  Primordial Chaos is the throbbing gristle of our hobby, the pale underbelly of a sandworm coughing up a hairball akin to the dark messiah who shall change the unchangeable.  Neon fuchsia reflected on the chartreuse palm of an all-seeing eye.  It is the prophecy!

Gonzo is awesome in and of itself, but gonzo can also be used to enhance the roleplaying experience in a variety of ways.  The problem is that, for many gamers, gonzo is inaccessible, hard to understand, and difficult to implement successfully.

There's regular old surface immersion, and then something deeper, darker, stranger... a hyper-immersive PSYCHOCOSMIC experience that you just can't obtain with vanilla fantasy or plain-Jane dungeon delving.  That's right!  This book will go beyond gonzo - exploring outer depths of reality that only a madman or magician in his wildest fever-dream could conceive.  With the forbidden knowledge contained inside Primordial Chaos, your gaming will take on a reality of its own; as real as you need it to be.

According to the RPG Pundit, I am the master of stupid gonzo fantasy.  I've made gonzo a cornerstone of my writing, designing, and gaming output.  Now is the time, I am the individual, and this is the book that will not only put primordial chaos on the bloodstained map, I'll show you how to gonzo like a fucking boss!

Do you want random tables that would make seasoned Arduin-Rifts-Carcosa gamers cross the street to avoid you?  Because backing this Kickstarter is how you get those kinds of random tables... and ants!

Free OSR - Cha'alt (Gonzo Setting)

I've known Venger for several years. We've butted heads in the past, at times quite vocally, but one thing that is consistent with V is the quality of the work he does. Love him or hate him, if you like gonzo in your OSR, few compare to V and his releases.

Venger is running a sale today for his Cha'alt setting. Physical books are 20 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping:

For one unbelievable day... February 29th, Leap Day, I'm selling the gorgeous, professionally printed, signed and numbered Cha'alt hardcover book for only $20 + $5 shipping/handling.

What is Cha'alt (in case you were sent here by a friend of a friend)?  It's my eldritch, gonzo, science-fantasy, post-apocalypse, humor, sleaze, pop-culture, exploitation grindhouse campaign setting.  It's a system-neutral OSR and 5e compatible tome of lore, factions, new races, adventures, locations, monsters, magic items, high tech, and features The Black Pyramid, a darkly weird megadungeon funhouse that's like nothing you've ever seen.

Check out the reviews, testimonials, vlogs, word of mouth, and hushed whispers of lurid illumination, unutterable chanting, and that foul piping music interspersed with foreboding drums!  According to the RPG Pundit, Cha'alt is a masterpiece of stupid gonzo fantasy!

After the last sale and Kickstarter, I only have about 300 left to sell.  Want your book by this time next week?  Paypal me the $25 [USA only; foreign shipping is $60 for book + shipping] at...

Venger.Satanis@yahoo.com

But maybe you want to see what you are getting first. Or maybe you don't want to pay at all. In that case, V is offering Cha'alt for FREE today in PDF.

Deal of the Day - Cha'alt (Gonzo Setting)

Let's get this out of the way: Cha'alt is written by Venger Satanis. V is a polarizing personality in gaming, to put it politely. I expect that that situation pleases Venger just fine. The thing is, the majority of his fantasy RPG work is pretty good to damn amazing (I'm not a fan of his Alpha Blue line, but that's my personal preference) in my humble opinion. If you like Venger, you probably already know that V has some solid releases. If he's on your shit list, today's Deal of the Day may be an opportunity to view the work separate from the man at a discounted price.

Until tomorrow morning at 11 AM, Cha'alt is on sale for 5 bucks - half of its regular sale price of 10 bucks. Cha'alt is about 200 pages of old-school gaming gonzoness.

Kickstarter - Cha'alt: Chartreuse Shadows (OSR)

Cha'alt: Chartreuse Shadows continues the eldritch, gonzo, science-fantasy, post-apocalypse OSR D&D campaign setting + megadungeon!

I'm always excited when Venger releases something for his gonzo fantasy setting. While I may not use any of it whole cloth, I do find it fun to read and inspiration to use in my own campaigns.

The Cha'alt: Chartreuse Shadows Kickstarter is the third of the potential Cha'alt trilogy. Although V is hedging his bets and admits its possible that the "trilogy" may see a fourth entry ;)

First of all, what is Cha'alt?  A few years ago, I wanted to go balls-deep into building my own campaign world.  This home setting would be influenced by all the things I love.  It would also focus on the kind of adventures and campaigns I like to run - eldritch, gonzo, science-fantasy, and post-apocalypse - where everything feels familiar, yet utterly strange, along with a sense of humor and erotic cherry on top!

That's very important because you'll see things in Cha'alt that you ordinarily wouldn't find in other campaign settings.  Jokes and sleaze and meta pop-cultural mash-ups stewing in an unforgettable gumbo a la Venger.

This is book number three of the Cha'alt trilogy!  Is it possible there will be a fourth book in a few years?  Sure, but this is the last Cha'alt book I'm guaranteeing.  What happens in the future is out of my hands (or tentacles), hoss.
