Kickstarter - Ogre Miniatures Set 1

Plastic Ogre Miniatures.

So damn sweet.

Yep, Ogre Miniatures Set 1 is minis for use with the Ogre Sixth Edition and Ogre Designer's Edition games.

I played the old pocket editions of Ogre and GEV back in my early days of gaming. Hell, we loved all of those mini games, as the value of play for your dollar was unmatched.

Fast forward to the Ogre Kickstarter from a few years ago. Big box. Huge box. Large, cardboard chits / counters and cardboard Ogres to put together. Now Steve Jackson Games is kickstarting minis for use with the Ogre boxed set.

30 bucks for the set of minis which is now, thanks to stretch goals, is a $40 value.

Yeah, this cutting back on backing kickstarters just isn't happening, is it?

Found a Use for My OGRE Oversized Tote Bag - Winter Storm Juno "Go Bag"

If tomorrow's blizzard predictions hold true, I may be stuck at work tomorrow night (or held over preemptively to stand in for those that can't make it in.) If I do go home tomorrow night, assuming trains are running Tuesday morning I may get held over until Wednesday.

Yeah, I expect lots of not much fun over the next few days.

So, in the bag I have:

- a light sleeping bag

- a cheesy pillow

- a towel

- a change of underwear

- a pair of clean dry socks

- 6 single serve mac and cheese bowls

- 6 single serve instant oatmeal bowls

- 4 single serve trail mix

- books for reading

And here I was wondering if I'd ever get any use out of the bag.

OGRE Pocket Edition - $2.95 - Same Price as in 1977 (NOT PDF)

Steve Jackson Games is offering the OGRE Pocket Edition for a measly $2.95. You can order direct from them (and pay some sort of shipping, so you might want to pad that order) or pick it up at your local game store by the end of the month.

I played the shit out of OGRE and GEV back in my high school and early college days and you really can't beat the price.

From the blurb

The giant tank rumbles toward its target . . . its guns are destroyed, its movement crippled, but only a few defenders are left. Will they stop the robot juggernaut, or will it crush the Command Post beneath its gigantic treads?

Ogre was Steve Jackson's first game. First released in 1977, it set a new standard for fast, exciting boardgame play. Over 25 years after its release, Ogre earned a spot in James Lowder's popular book Hobby Games: The 100 Best.

In 2012, Steve Jackson Games launched the "Designer's Edition" of Ogre on Kickstarter. . . a 24-pound box with giant maps and several hundred counters, retailing for $100.

Now Ogre Pocket Edition takes the game back to its roots. A small rulebook, 140 counters, and the same bare-bones map Steve drew himself for the very first printing. And the price is the same as it was in 1977: $2.95. ($2.95 in 1977 dollars translates to be over $10 today when adjusted for inflation; this is Steve's way of saying 'thank you' for your support for Ogre over the last three decades.)

Despite its "pocket" size, Ogre Pocket Edition will have more than enough counters to play all five of the "Ogre vs. Command Post" scenarios. It includes two different conventional forces (a Black force and a White force), with a whopping eight White Howitzers! That's a whole lot of gameplay for $2.95.

OGRE Has Arrived! Pictorial Unboxing With Ashley the Cat

"The Box" is friggin huge! Oh, and heavy. My son thought I had ordered an LCD TV for the kitchen when he saw the shipping box arrive, but alas, it was too heavy for that ;)

No way I'll be done punching out counters and building OGREs before my wife get's home this afternoon...

My, what big boxes! (the smaller box held the pins, t-shirt and carry bag)

You not hiding more shit behind this, are you?
I guess these are instructions I should actually follow...
Shiny!
What's in the box?
I know you are hiding something damnit!
Hey, these are blueprints! You aren't planning on building one of these, are you?
You aint building nothing now! It's mine, all mine!
Damn, but there's a bazillion places to hide things in here!
If they try to escape the box, I've got 'em!
Thought of escaping, did ya?
Got ya!
