Fight On! is a snapshot of the OSR. Grab any issue and is just bleeds Old School and passions about gaming.

Issue #14 will be the last one unless things have changed (Edit: an Issue # 15 is apparently planned)

Carousing the Compiled Compilation of Fight On!

When it was announced that Fight On! was ceasing publication, I realized that most of my copies of Fight On! were in PDF, not print. Which isn't all that big a surprise, as the PDF price was much cheaper than the printed price, even with the famous Lulu Coupons.

Well, the 4 issue compilations make that less of a done deal. The PDFs generally run $4.99 each and print is $9.99 (plus tax and shipping). The compilations are 4 issues in print for 20 bucks - half the single issue prices and the same as PDF. So, I picked up the compilations of 1-4 and 5-8. These suckers are as thick as some of my old college textbooks.

My goal, now that I have these 2 tomes, is to cover an issue a week or so on the blog - starting with issue 1 and moving onward to issue 8. Hopefully by then issues 9-12 will have their own tome ;)

With print on demand publishing, these issues will never truly be out of print. I'll highlight the good, the bad and the downright ugly (which admittedly, can still be pretty good). Thankfully, Fight On! #1 was fairly short, so I should have that post up by the end of the week.

Fight On! is Coming to an End...

You know, even with my assorted thoughts on what I in particular would want in a magazine devoted to the OSR, and with the huge amount of time between the last issue of Fight On! and what may now be the last issue (it may go on for two issues, but the end is still near) I didn't expect this announcement.

Here's a pint of Newcastle on tap that I'm tipping back for Fight On! and the hope it goes out on the top of it's game. It will be sorely missed.

Fight On! 13 Is Out on Lulu

It's not like I don't have enough to read at the moment, but Fight On! # 13 is a Tunnels & Trolls themed issues, so of course I had to pick it up.

I think I've made it as far as 24 ages of the 124 pages it holds.  It's a beast.

5 bucks in PDF - code: DECBOOKS11 drops that by 20% to 4 bucks.

Not a bad deal at all.

Did I mention that Liz Danforth did th cover and the Trollgod had a mini-solo inside?

Fight On! is Looking For Some Trolls (Tunnels & Trolls)

As I mentioned earlier, Fight On! 13 is going to have a Tunnels & Trolls theme going for it, assuming they get enough quality articles to do so. The Trollgod himself, Ken St. Andre has given word to Trollhallaians (heh) to do their part, and I'm just passing that word on to the readers of this blog.

If you have something to submit, it does not go to Trollgod, but to the editor of Fight On! at iggyunlaut AT gmail DOT com. I hope I have that right, if not, I'm sure someone will be quick to correct me.

Game on!

Bard Put to Bed - Next Project...

Well, I sent off my take on the Bard for Swords & Wizardry last night - we will see if Matt has a place for it in Knock Spell #6.  If he doesn't, I'll post it up here.

I had a blast working on it, even with all the things i wound up NOT using (like the turning table for Charm / Changing Crowd Reactions), additional languages spoken (I figured being given a chance to READ almost anything was better balanced), new spells / songs (would have added major length to the submission - they can always be added later), instruments (and a bonus to use them) - this stuff was cut not because it wasn't useful, but because it wasn't needed.  Short and sweet.

So, what next?

The TrollGod informed the members of Trollhalla that Fight On! #13 is going to be dedicated to Ken St. Andre, for all his work on RPGs (Go Tunnels & Trolls!).  Maybe I can work on a T&T submission to Fight On!

Hmmm... I probably need a deadline ;)

Random Monday Madness

Sigh.

Spent the weekend going thru bouts of food poisoning.  Not fun.

Still, I'm home and I'm finally able to appreciate Fight On! #8.  Is it just me or is the artwork getting better and better?  7 bucks for the PDF is a steal for the amount of material that is packed into this issue.  I do have one little quibble... hyperlinks... why are there no hyperlinks in the PDF?  Yeah, I can copy and paste the link, but a hyperlink makes it effortless.  No biggie.  More curious then anything.

Nice.  Thunder and Lightning here in NYC at the moment.

Just got the complete Little Rascals DVD collection delivered earlier today.  Hmmm, that could make for the setting of a simple and silly RPG at some point.  Backburnering that ;)

Trying to track down my sources of free and cheap old school RPG material.  Might take a wee bit.

See, I told you it was going to be random.
