I think the most important implication of this news is the evident change in Wizards' policy regarding third-party publishers. They're obviously much more 3PP-friendly than they were in the 4E era.
I dunno, during 4e, Gale Force 9 sold D&D products like maps of Dark Sun and so forth. But isn't this probably less a case of Wizard's policy toward third-party publishers and more a case of whatever contract they had with the artist to allow him to resell his artwork after it appeared on the WotC site?

I was waiting for these to become available. I have his Dreamlands map, which is gorgeous. These are some of the best-looking D&D maps in years. Preordered.
Wow. I'm not sure I have the wall space for these, but such concerns seldom deter me.
These are actually kind of small. 16 x 18 and 11 x 22 mostly...mostly.
