BackerKit - Worldographer 2025 (World Mapping Software Plus)

I've been using versions of Hexographer / Worldographer for the better part of a decade, and I'm excited to see what the latest version of the Worldographer software offers.

You can back Worldographer 2025 for 60 bucks, and it should release before the end of 2024.

If you haven't heard of Worldographer and its predecessor Hexographer, Worldographer is a map-making program that lets you create and edit world and region maps; city and village maps; as well as dungeon, building interior, and other battlemats, plus cosmic sector maps.

What makes Worldographer different from other map-making software?
  • It installs to your computer: Unlike a web app, if the company goes out of business or if you're just on a bad connection, you can keep using it. Use it on Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, or anything that supports Java (it is written in Java, but has native installers for the most common platforms).
  • Worldographer has many built-in generators. Want to create a world? Just choose a few settings and it creates one in seconds! Or generate a region, city, village, tower, shop, dungeon, and more! The results are fully customizable.
  • Have a specific world or region in mind? Start a blank map, then rough in a fraction of the terrain. Next use our "Terrain Wizard" tool to fill in the rest of the map and edit the result.
  • It doesn't just help you create and edit the map.  It also creates data about the world or city. For a world, it will generate a few bullets for each of several cultures, nations, and religions as well as details of cities, villages, forts, and other points of interest.  For a city or village, it generates a list of residents or staff/patrons/prices for a tavern or store.  All the data is fully editable.
  • It can also generate locations of interest for a sandbox or hex crawl style campaign.

Ever want to play Toy Story the RPG? When my kid was younger, this could have been his gateway to RPGs. I'm a fan of the Tinyd6 system, which does so much with such a simple ruleset.

Knights of Underbed is usually 15 bucks in PDF, but until tomorrow morning, it is DTRPG's Deal of the Day and is on sale for 3 bucks. At that price, it is a steal!

Explore the dark and dangerous basement, creep into the creepy attic, visit the glorious metropolis of Underbed, or adventure in the Dreamlands all while making sure your child is safe from evil monsters and nightmares that want to suck the happiness out of their lives.

Using this game you play stuffed animals, dolls, and action figures defending your sleeping human children from monsters and nightmares. Play grumpy stuffed dogs, mysterious black cats, energetic tigers, proud space rangers, determined penguins, good monsters, or any type of plush toy you can imagine.

Knights of Underbed uses the TinyD6 game with a setting and theme focused towards family play. It presents accessible, easy to teach, learn and understand rules, as well as carefully crafted content, just for kids and younger audiences!

This is a standalone book.

Humble Bundle - Transformers RPG

This bundle features official rulebooks and exciting new campaigns, including The Time is Now, Enigma of Combination, Decepticon Directive, and more. Backerkit - Netcrawl (Cyberpunk RPG)

I remember my first experience with the cyberpunk genre, reading Gibson's Neuromancer. It wasn't what I expected—actually, I'm not sure what I expected—but I was excited. Then I saw that GURPS had a Cyberpunk sourcebook and an RPG titled Cyberpunk 2020, and I had to grab both. I never ran them, but I must have read that sourcebook a dozen times and the RPG at least that many times.

Seeing that Netcrawl was funding on Backerkit brought back memories of my initial exposure to Cyberpunk. It looks like it is time for Cyberpunk again inn the Tenkar household ;)

Did I mention that Netcrawl is compatible with the DCC and MCC RPGs? Wait that means it's also compatible with Weird Frontiers. The mashups are endless and come to mind...

Netcrawl RPG is a TTRPG about adventuring inside a computer system. Everyone goes in, seconds pass in the meatspace as players spend hours conquering a cyber-dungeon - together.

Netcrawl RPG uses the d20 System and Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG rulebook that can run as a cyber sidecar to your current game or as a stand alone game with little or no notion of an outside meatspace world.

Inspiration for Netcrawl RPG is drawn from William Gibson's seminal cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer, among many other works of science fiction and cyberpunk.

Kickstarter - Warlock Knight (DFRPG)

Holy crap! I almost missed this! I always snag Gaming Ballistic releases on Kickstarter, as they are all fantastic regardless of system.

Warlock Night is a "programmed adventure" (can be used as a solo). It's 20 in PDF, 30 in PDF plus Foundry files, 40 in print plus PDF, and 60 in print, PDF, card, and Foundry VTT files. Oh, and you can snag prior titles in the series, too.

Warlock Knight is a programmed solitaire adventure for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG, Powered by GURPS. It is designed to serve as an introductory adventure, with characters starting at 150 points and growing through the adventure to approach the usual starting 250 points as presented in the Dungeon Fantasy RPG Box Set. Warlock Knight can be played with or without a GM, and is extendable into an ongoing campaign.

Warlock Knight is a conversion of David's excellent version for The Fantasy Trip to the Dungeon Fantasy RPG. It is designed to introduce the Isle of Sedra setting, in the same manner that Saethor's Bane serves to introduce the neighboring Isle of Elazar.

Designed to showcase and teach the capabilities and options of the Dungeon Fantasy RPG, three martial characters engage on a quest to regain their lost titles through adventuring.

The characters start at 150 points - substantially fewer than the 250-point characters that feature in the Dungeon Fantasy RPG. This capability level is fully supported by the Delvers to Grow modular character build system: These characters start roughly halfway between "Journeyman" at 125 points and "Master" at 187 points. By the time the adventure finishes, they should wind up right about at starting DFRPG levels.

The adventure is much longer than the prior solo release by Gaming Ballistic for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG: Saethor's Bane. Enough so that to keep it convenient so that the books lay flat on a table during play, the material is divided up into two volumes, broadly speaking "The Adventure" and "Supporting Cast." The digital file will consist of a single file, with the two volumes presented sequentially - that will keep hyperlinks straight!

There are no stretch goals, and all the art is already in hand. When the campaign ends, it should be ready for PDF distribution, with print, cards, and digital support material all ready with good speed.

Bundle of Holding - Skullkickers

I'm a massive fan of the comic book format, and it looks fantastic on my iPad. Yep, I refuse to buy physical comics these days, as it's simply a waste of money and space to store them. I've snagged many a great bundle on Humble Bundle and found Bundle of Holding a great place to catch Knights of the Dinner Table digitally at a very affordable price.

Well, color me surprised to find Skullkickers as a current bundle at Bundle of Holding. I'd hear about Skullkickers here or there from other gaming community members as a "must-read," but I had never encountered it in an affordable digital format before. Bundle of Holding has 1100 pages of Skullkickers for less than 10 bucks.

Adventurer! This all-new Skullkickers Bundle presents the rowdy fantasy-comedy comic book series Skullkickers by Jim Zub, Edwin Huang, and Misty Coats. Skullkickers stars hard-headed mercenaries Rolf Copperhead and Rex Maraud, who kill monsters and cause havoc in their endless search for money, fame, and adventure. The twisted trail Rolf and Rex follow is littered with troubles aplenty: patchwork zombies, bloodthirsty faerie folk, pirate crews, giant rain weevils, a neat-freak Goo Elemental, cross-dimensional bar fights, and the Deep Thool, among many, many other perils. For lovers of fantasy, action comedy, ridiculous violence, and the kicking of many skulls – for every tabletop roleplayer who likes a good hack-and-slash adventure – Skullkickers is Dungeons & Dragons by way of Deadpool. And gamers will enjoy the prefaces to these collected volumes by Robin D. Laws, Steve Jackson, Tracy Hickman, and other RPG gaming luminaries.

This all-new offer gives you the entire 34-issue, 888-page run of Skullkickers published by Image Comics (2010-2015) in six full-color, DRM-free .PDF volumes – Skullkickers Volume 1: 1000 Opas and a Dead Body, V2: Five Funerals and a Bucket of Blood, V3: Six Shooter on the Seven Seas, V4: Eighty Eyes on an Evil Island, V5: A Dozen Cousins and a Crumpled Crown, and V6: Infinite Icons of the Endless Epic – plus the anniversary special Caster Bastards and the Great Grotesque – a US$58 retail value for just $9.95.

New Release - Humans! Humans! 1st Edition (For Monsters! Monsters!)

When word came down that Tunnels & Trolls was in the hands of Rebellion, I was hopeful that T&T would be back in print, fairly quickly. Alas, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

I was happy and excited to see that Ken St. Andre retained the rights to Monsters! Monsters! I was glad to see it updated and reissued. Sadly, it didn't cover humans and other traditional demi-humans.

Well, Humans! Humans! takes care of that for you. Humans, elves, dwarves, and demon dwarves are on the menu :) Humans! Humans! is currently on sale for 4.99 in PDF.

This supplement to the Monsters! Monsters! rules written by Ken St. Andre, gives details on how to create, train and equip human characters in the Monsters! Monsters! RPG and also includes how to add special abilities to human characters like vampires, avatars, and other enhanced humans. This book introduces new enhancements for humanoid characters like Professions (similar to Classes), Skills and Special Abilities. Explains training, and gives advice of running Avatar humans Like Vampires, fallen Angels, and other beings hiding or trapped in human form.

Also covers Elves, Dwarves and Dwon, along with guidance for other human-like characters. Includes a list human supplies, armor and weapons (including guns.) Plus a new map reveals where the various humanoid groups live on Zimrala.

State of The Tavern Keeper - Summer 2024

As has now been stated recently by two of my doctors, my cardiologist (heart) and my nephrologist (kidneys) I need to lose weight. While I'd like to think I can do so by simply doing low-impact cardio, the truth is I need to change my eating habits. By intention, so does Rach, as I do all the cooking, and cooking for two is the same as cooking for one.

And we've been doing it, and doing well with it, for the last two weeks. Konjac noodles for Italian dishes, salads with grilled chicken, stir-fries with frozen veggies, low sodium soy sauce, and yet more grilled chicken. Sit down Chinese food with brown rice and light on the sauce. And yes, even some fast food - tonight was Checkers, but no fries (first fast food in 2 weeks) and only because this afternoon was all pear-shaped ;P

Increasing our walks with the dog - number and length, of course, is good for the three of us - Rach, our doggie, and of course, myself.

So, if I get a bit extra cranky, here at The Tavern, in its various incarnations, or on social media in general, now you know why.

In any case, down about 4 pounds in just over a week and a half. I'll take it :)

Kickstarter - The Shucked Oyster: A Cursed Brothel for Shadowdark RPG

A third-party supplement for Shadowdark RPG to add untold chaos to your local town.

With Venger's abrupt self-removal from the world of OSR publishing, The Shucked Oyster: A Cursed Brothel for Shadowdark RPG Kickstarter suddenly stands out. This is the type of content one would expect from V, based on the title alone. Alas, it ISN'T from Venger, as he doesn't much like Shadowdark, but damn, it would have been one hell of a crossover ;)

The Shucked Oyster Kickstarter is available for 14 in PDF, 24 in PDF plus soft cover POD, and 34 in PDF and hardcover POD.

Designed for use with the 4-time Ennie Award Winning Shadowdark RPG and other fantasy role playing games, this supplement provides an iconic drop-in location for any town or city in your campaign. The Oyster is a cursed brothel that is routinely destroyed and rebuilt after freak accidents set it ablaze! Included, you will find a slew of wild and crazy NPCs, new magic items, expanded social mechanics, unique dungeons, and enough adventure hooks for an entire campaign!

Indiegogo - Forest of Spores (OSE, C&C, & 5e)

The hamlet of Jensenville woke to a forest of mushrooms that sprang up overnight right outside their village. What's worse, the mushrooms are expanding, absorbing homes and building into their midst. The villagers need help before they are overrun. And that won't be long given how fast new mushrooms keep sprouting up.

What terror awaits in the fungus forest? Heroes are needed to venture inside...but will they return?

Forest of Spores is Rachel Marsh's first work for Frog God Games. It's funded on Indigogo and then some, and Frog God Games has a solid history of publishing its projects on time.

Forest of Spores is 12 bucks in PDF and 25 in POD and PDF.

Here's hoping your heroes are just what the residents of Jensenville need!

Will they push into the forest's depths where fungi grow wild? Where other creatures wait to stop their mission? And how will they react to the mushroom-people making a new home in the dark nooks of the forest, completely unaware of the villagers' plight?

And worse still, something else waits in the forest, a threat to humans and mushroom-people alike. It's already killed a number of the mushroom-people, and it is more than happy to welcome the adventurers (aka fresh meat) into its killing ground.

Forest of Spores can be played as a standalone adventure, or it can serve as a lead-in to further investigations into the mysterious and dangerous Under Realms.

Deal of the Day - 7th Sea Core Rulebook (Second Edition - 80% Off)

There comes a price point where a product falls under "impulse buy", especially RPGs. For me, that's the "5 Dollars and Under" point. Well, the 7th Sea Core Rulebook (Second Edition) certainly does that for me today. With a list price of 24.99, and a normal price of 14.99, until tomorrow morning the 7th Sea Core Rulebook (Second Edition) is the Deal of the Day at DTRPG (in PDF), and can be had for a mere 3 bucks!

Yep, purchased today's Deal of the Day just before putting up this post, as 7th Sea is a title I've heard much about and have yet to experience.

7th Sea is a tabletop roleplaying game of swashbuckling and intrigue, exploration and adventure, taking place on the continent of Theah, a land of magic and mystery inspired by our own Europe. Players take the roles of heroes thrown into global conspiracies and sinister plots, exploring ancient ruins of a race long vanished and protecting the rightful kings and queens of Theah from murderous villains.

Save the Queen of Avalon from treacherous blackmail!

Thwart a dastardly assassination attempt on the Cardinal of Castille!

Raid the villainous fleets of Vodacce Merchant Princes!

Free the Prince of the Sarmatian Commonwealth from a mysterious curse!

Make decisions that alter the very course of Thean history!

In 7th Sea, you are a Hero, an icon of Theah ready to live and die for causes that matter. You bravely take on a dozen thugs with swords, knives and guns all on your own. You are the trusted knight, a loyal bodyguard or even an adventuring queen herself.

In other words—you are d’Artagnan, Milady de Winter, the Dread Pirate Roberts, Jack Sparrow, Julie d’Aubigney, and the Scarlet Pimpernel all rolled up in one!

This is a game of high adventure, mystery and action. This is a game of intrigue and romance.

This is 7th Sea.

Kickstarter - Halfjinks Roleplaying Game

A Family-Friendly RPG of Innocent Mischief

Let me get this out of the way immediately. I've known James Spahn for well over a decade. I consider him a brother and was his sponsor for Confirmation in the Catholic Church. James is, for better or worse, my family. So take that for what it is worth ;)

Halfjinks is James' current Kickstarter. If ANYONE were a fan of halflings/hobbits, it would be James. Complete stop. It is literally his passion and his expertise. I'm sold ;)

Halfjinks, as the pranks pulled by adolescent halflings are known to flustered locals, is a roleplaying game for the whole family!

Inspired by and building on the Mausritter rules and using its third party license, Halfjinks is a game where players take up the roll of halfling children eager to pull a few pranks in the local community.

They'll venture from their home ("But not too far! We need to be back by dinner!") in an effort to cause a little trouble. Whether it's hiding a live chicken in the post office, nabbing a treat from the annual Pie Eating Contest, or exploring Old Man Whipplebottom's Farm where they say a dragonslayer's tomb is hidden, they're hoping to bring a touch of fun to the dulldrum days that fill the lives of their fellow villagers.

But such brave explorers will need proper provisions and without a sturdy walking stick and a ready snack, a halfling's Comfort might drop so low that they become Bored or Hungry and decide its best to go home!
