Reddit - TheOSR - New Reddit Page / Community / Thread?

I'm not a huge user of Reddit. That being said, with the death of G-Plus, the refugees of the various OSR communities have been exploring Reddit as a replacement option.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOSR/ is a recent addition to the OSR scene on Reddit. Surprisingly, it is very heavy on sharing various posts from The Tavern (not shared by me). It needs more sharing from the OSR at large to be viable, so if you have links to share or conversations you might want to have, give it a peek.

FYI - the original OSR Reddit community has over 5k subscribers: https://www.reddit.com/r/osr/

Reddit Has a Tread on Vaporware RPGs - and The Tavern has Covered Many That Got Mentioned

Ah, sweet Reddit. Where the rabbit holes go deep and wide.

The Vaporware RPG thread is an interesting read. The Tavern even gets linked for a Far West post from this summer.

It is a long and winding thread with projects familiar and others not. Still, an enjoyable read and an eye opener.

Enjoy your Turkey Day (and read about some turkeys on Reddit ;)

Reddit "Flash Mob" at The Tavern Today

Apparently the following post: http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/06/mike-nystul-fiscally-incompetent-washes.html got linked in a discussion thread of the ass who burned a bunch of books he didn't ship to backers: Kickstarter Fail: Artist Raises $51K to Publish Books, Burns Them in Alley

Reddit drives amazing traffic. Sadly, I suspect its not quality traffic. Still, it's a fun ride and I've already hit twice my previous high for daily traffic and there's still 3 1/2 hours to go.

Go figure ;)

Downloads of Swords & Wizardry Complete and the Power of Reddit

The above graph shows the downloads of Swords & Wizardry Complete via DropBox using a "bitly" link for tracking (initially shares of the file were either via email or untracked from the DropBox file direct). See that huge spike yesterday? That was nearly all Reddit - like 98% or so. Well, it was till they nuked the posting. I rarely post anything to Reddit, and my last few from last year were my own blog posts, so this got nuked as spam for not sharing enough variety. Fair enough. Makes sense actually.

Still, the power of Reddit is amazing, or at least has the potential to be so.  As such, I have the following goal:

I'll be sharing at least one blog post a day from the many blogs I follow on Reddit. Today's shared blog post is +matt jackson 's DIY Wooden Runes post. This shit is awesome, and should be shared far and wide in any case.

Criteria for me to share it on Reddit? It has to be really cool ;)

Some more eyes (and hopefully boots on the ground) reading OSR blogs can only be a good thing. More OSR is more goodness ;)

Thanks to Reddit, Swords & Wizardry Complete Has Been Downloaded Over 600+ Times Today at The Tavern

I was watching The Cobert Report last night over dinner with my wife and one of the guests was one of the founders of Reddit. It didn't hit me until I woke up in the middle of the night - had anyone shared the word that Swords & Wizardry Complete is now free in PDF "on Reddit?"

Apparently not. I posted a link to the blog post from earlier this week mentioning that The Tavern had shared out over 750 copies since +Matt Finch gave the go ahead on November 5th (excellent anniversary present BTW Matt). What happens as a result? Over 600 copies downloaded in 12 hrs.

600 copies of Swords & Wizardry Complete downloaded by roleplayers. Judging from the comments on the Reddit discussion, many know about the other choices in the OSR.

I'm a firm believer in "a rising tide lifts all boats" and increased visibility for one publisher in the OSR will trickle down for all. I know not everyone agrees with my views on this, and I'm okay with that. Because, well, you know, I've got a blog, therefore my opinions must be fact ;)
