Kickstarter - Hex Dek, Systemless Fantasy RPG Hexcrawl Cards

To be honest, I thought I posted about Phil Reed's latest Kickstarter already, but it appears I did not. I'm already backing Hex Dek for 50 bucks, which tells you how excited I am to back yet another project from Phil, but the actual post never actually got made. Well, there are 3 days left to back, so don't wait too long to pull the trigger on Hex Dek.

Note: Hex Dek is a purely digital, PDF plus Print on Demand (POD), project. Phil won't be doing any mailing on this one. It also means, if you are backing for a physical (POD) product, you will have an additional "at cost" charge from OneBookShelf when you do order the POD.

Hex Dek consists of 50 double-sided cards:

On the front of the card we have:

  • A seven-hex mini-map. (Each hex represents a two to three-mile section of land. Of course, the GM is free to adjust this scale as they wish.)
  • A short description of one location.

On the back of the card we have:

  • Expanded information on the location described on the card front.
  • At times, a second location description.
  • A random encounter table.

The cards are completely systemless. There are no game stats at all. Instead, these are encounter prompts that are intended to inspire the GM. They may also prove useful to solitaire RPG players in need of more prompts for their game sessions.

Hex Dek POD is 7 bucks (plus at-cost printing and shipping upon final order) via Kickstarter, but you can back for more to get more. If you are the least bit interested in hex crawls, I strongly suggest you back for the core deck. :)

Kickstarter - Elements of Inspiration - Bring Your World To Life! (Cards for Gaming Inspiration)

Let's see. I've known the principle behind Nord Games for a number of years and we've been known to talk at gaming conventions - when I was going to such. As for the Nord Games Community Manager, I've known Ben "The Best Hair in the OSR" for a number of years, when he could have rightfully been called a kid to now, all grown up, and I consider him a friend, even if he does critique my drinking red wine with ice.

Nord Games has a history of putting out good and most importantly, useable products with their Kickstarters, and Elements of Inspiration appears to raise even that high bar.

As an improv style DM, resources like the decks in Elements of Inspiration are my bread and butter. I'm in for $50, for the print plus PDF.

As I type this, the Elements of Inspiration Kickstarter has funded and then some - over $84k from a $20k goal.

Set off for adventure with Elements Of Inspiration! The most expansive, detailed, and dynamic tool for fantasy roleplaying games and storytelling we've ever created. This 420-card box set contains 9 decks, each for a different environment. So no matter where the heroes go, there will be exciting events to experience.

Decks within the Elements Of Inspiration Box Set are based on common and exotic environments found in fantasy adventures including: Urban, Forest, Mountains, Underground, Waterways, Tundra, Deserts, Plains, and Swamps.

We've based our card types on the three pillars of gameplay emphasized in the world's greatest roleplaying game: Exploration, Roleplay, and Combat.

Each card has a cue word and explanatory paragraph to spark your imagination. There are also four options listed that pertain to the cue word for added variety and inspiration. Finally there are three icons at the bottom of each card that present additional intrigue such as moon phase, weather conditions, and supernatural signs. Each of these card elements can be used to form a more and more detailed picture of this particular aspect of the story.

Kickstarter - Outdoor Encounter Cards 3 - For use with many tabletop RPGs (Phil Reed)

Holy shit! I nearly missed this the Outdoor Encounter Cards 3 Kickstarter by Phil Reed. ALL (and I do mean ALL) of Phil's Kickstarters have been must-haves and on time (if not early). I expect more of the same with Phil's latest project.
Outdoor Encounters are poker-sized, 330 gsm game cards that the GM may use to randomly generate an outdoor event in any fantasy roleplaying game. The cards are generic in nature and not designed for any one game system. Experienced GMs will have no problems incorporating the encounters into the game of their choice.
YOU DO NOT NEED THE FIRST OR SECOND SETS TO USE THESE NEW CARDS!

These cards may be either used randomly -- ask the players to draw a card when the party is traveling across the countryside -- or, instead, the GM may select a card when looking to throw a quick encounter at the players.
Outdoor Encounter cards are not intended for novice gamemasters. The encounters described on these cards do not include monster or character statistics, game mechanics, or detailed instructions for using each card. Outdoor Encounter cards are, in a sense, adventure seeds with a slight twist. These cards are only useful once you've applied some effort to the suggested encounters.
14 bucks for the deck in print plus PDF, 4 bucks for PDF only.

Indiegogo - Bill Webb's RPG Decks of Dirty Tricks

Why do I have an AC/DC song in my head when I think of Bill Webb's Deck of Dirty Tricks? heh.

I've been using Bill's Deck off and on for years at the various conventions I run games at. The results have always been fun and often game-changing. Certainly not for the DM that is weak of heart and unable to improvise ;)

With this project introducing TWO new decks of Bill Webb Dirty Tricks in addition to reprinting the original deck, I'm excited as all hell. One deck of your choice for 15 bucks, two for 29, all three for 42. Want to add a signed copy of Bill Webb's Book of Dirty Tricks (DM Aid)? You're at 50 bucks. Shipping not included.
The Classic Deck of Dirty Tricks
Made for use during game sessions to encourage unexpected events and player interactivity. The cards are all printed with suggestions for changes in the narration and their potential mechanical implications. It is system neutral but works best with any one of the many variations of the world's most popular roleplaying game.
The New Expansion Decks of Dirty Tricks
We are bringing 2 new decks for this Indiegogo project. We are also reprinting the classic (and sold out classic Deck of Dirty tricks . The expansion decks are planned for 48 cards with, often requested blank cards for creating your very own "dirty tricks" for your home or convention game.
