And Then He Said: "Let there be Light!" and There Was - Swords & Wizardry Light, that Is!

Let me start out by saying when I first thought of condensing the Swords & Wizardry rules down to a playable, engaging and fun four page ruleset I never expected the results we now have.

The faith that Bill, Matt, Zach and this community have shown in me is more than I deserve - but I'll accept it gladly, even as it humbles me. I walk among giants in the OSR. I thank you all.

I came into this with the idea of making something that the lapsed gamer could use to reignite the fire of roleplaying within them. Thanks to Frog God Games, we will soon have in our hands a ruleset that should appeal to young and old. New, current and lapsed gamers. With production values I never dreamed of having access to in my lifetime.

These are just a few peeks of what's to come. Soon. Hopefully very soon.

I couldn't have done this without every single one of you that is reading this, as you made this happen. Creation is exciting, but the true value is revealed in the sharing.

Now on to the next step. Support material. Because we all need some "Extra Light" ;)

P.S. - The bit.ly link is case sensitive apparently - bit.ly/SWLight Not much there yet, but before the month is out, there should be a page full of material and other links. You will have all the support you need to make S&W Light "your game'.

P.P.S. - Somehow in the midst of all this the Tenkar's Tavern Facebook Community surpassed 800 members. Wow. Oh, another member request as I type this...

P.P.P.S. I almost forgot to thank Rach for putting up with this crazy hobby of mine. Actually, she's embraced it from the moment we started dating. Without Rach, I don't think Light would ever have been.

  1. There's a fine line to walk when condensing something down to bare necessities. As a healthcare professional, I had a class at University that concentrated on same. We had to take a 16 page digest booklet and condense it down to 2 pages, typewritten and double-spaced. We weren't to miss any major points of the booklet and we were absolutely NOT to go over 2 pages. Fortunately for me, my electric typewriter was Elite not Pica. Nonetheless, it taught one to be both succinct and thorough.

  3. Typo in the text of the second pic, Pack 2 contents, 'lanter oil' should be lantern oil?

  5. I expected some sort of blue ink mimeographed pamphlet, but that's only because I was thinking of my own sad, sad efforts. The previews look GORGEOUS!!

  6. I never saw a poll so I guess the "thief" class is still named thief.

Layout looks great. Zach did an excellent job.

  11. Congrats, man! Looking forward to checking it out. I have a feeling it is going to be the gateway for new players and that which pulls others back in.

I have been talking to Bill for a few weeks about putting together a free community-use ruleset for use with Fantasy Grounds. I got approval from him and Matt for that today, who both mentioned to sync up with you to help get the word out. I haven't started on it yet and I don't have a timeline for when I will be able to complete it (work, grad school, family, etc), but if things work out I would like to plan for early in 2017.

I also got approval to start a Lost Lands wiki to catalog all the canon available currently, so will be starting to work on that soonish too. Already have the site, just need the time to customize it, secure it, and clean it up.
