I'm a massive fan of the comic book format, and it looks fantastic on my iPad. Yep, I refuse to buy physical comics these days, as it's simply a waste of money and space to store them. I remember when DC Comics published Dungeons & Dragons, Forgotten Realms, and Dragonlance comics. I bought them as I found them, and they were good, if popcorn, reading.

I remember, back in my days collecting comics, buying Lone Wolf and Cub for the Frank Miller covers, and being blown away by the content BETWEEN those covers. I had never experienced a Japanese comic before, and it was literally eye-opening. Lone Wolf and Cub were some of the best stories ever written and drawn in graphic comic format.

I've been on a comic book kick recently. Not the new stuff which is priced at 3? 4? bucks per 32-page book, but stuff like The Sandman (classic Neil Gaiman) via Cosmicology Unlimited and classic 2000 AD (Judge Dredd and more) via an earlier Humble Bundle. Humble Bundle - Heavy Metal Comics Bundle

I remember Heavy Metal Magazine from back in my teens years, and it always had and least one comic story that blew me away. For the time, it certainly pushed the envelope, and to find it still being published 45 years after its debut in digital format is nothing short of amazing.

Issue 316 is the latest issue of Heavy Metal, and the bundle includes issues 307-315 as well as a large number of trade paperback collections. I'm in for 25 bucks for the Heavy Metal Comics Humble Bundle. I've got a few weeks of comics reading ahead of me it seems. 51 titles will last a long time ;)

I am not a Pathfinder fan. No secret there. I do, however, think that the Pathfinder Beginner Box is one of the best RPG releases of this decade. Shame Paizo didn't know what to do with it.

Anyhow, you can get the Pathfinder Beginner Box, the Pathfinder Core rules, some PF adventures, maps, a bunch of comics and more in PDF for one lousy buck on Humble Bundle. Seriously.

The more you pay, the more you get, but the one buck level is hard to pass up.

Of course, if you go in for $45 they'll mail some minis to your house ;)

Kickstarter - Life of the Party: The Realities of an RPG'er - Humorous RPG Comic

Usually I'd assume its depicting +Tim Shorts , but he avoided Natural 1's last Friday Night ;)

Time to peek at a sweet looking Kickstarter that  mocks the very game we love.

Yep, I'm talking about Life of the Party: The Realities of an RPG'er, an online comic strip releasing a printed collection.

It had a goal of $7k. It has currently surpassed $38k and still has 4 week of funding left. Stretch goals have added pages of content, a switch to hardcover and more in the pipeline.

I don't know about you, but I get a Calvin & Hobbes feel from the art, which I do like.

$10 for the PDF, $22 for Print plus PDF, $35 for Print plus PDF plus sketch - which is where I'm at. There are other, higher backer levels, but for me, $35 is the sweet point.

Comic - Corpus Christie and the Cape Girls TPB - Normally $4.99, On Sale for $0.25 Thru the Weekend

When I posted about the Aegis Publishing 70% off sale yesterday, I missed that the Corpus Christie and the Cape Girls TPB is on sale for 25 cents (normally $4.99).

I don't read much in the way of comics these days, but for a quarter I figured I could take the plunge. I'm very happy that I did. I'm far from through all 115 pages, but what I've read so far makes it worth the price of full entry, let alone 25 cents.

The Corpus Christie and the Cape Girls TPB follows the zany adventures of Corpus Christie (a girl who is so goth she's actually dead) and her two roommates: Squeak (a dominatrix with a speech impediment) and Purple (a portly dorky goth with serious magical mojo). 

When the trio decides to visit the coffee shop to ward off the evening's ennui, they come across a jock named Brad whose crush on Christie leads him to seek the aid of a voodoo wielding, zombie making pimp. Add to the chaos Brad's ax wielding jealous ex-girlfriend and it makes the perfect recipe for one hell of a bizarre night!

There Was a Time I Dreamed of Doing a Comic Strip on the Blog...

Yep.

Fairly early on in my "blogging career" I thought of doing a weekly comic strip here on Tenkar's Tavern. Wanted to make it a regular feature. My inspiration? The LotR rekinning that someone had done, because it proved to me you could do it with little or no artistic talent, which was good, as I was in the "no artistic talent" category.

The thing is, grabbing all of those stills from a movie is tedious work, and working them into a coherent retelling of a story even more so. I would have had an easier time doing stick figures, but I doubt I could have done them well (and OoTS takes stick figures to a whole new level).

Now, I know they have that "talking heads" software, where a mechanical voice speaks and the animation is minimal, but is there a program where talentless artistic hacks like me can put together a comic strip?

Not that I would make my blog readers suffer such an indignity - at least not on a regular basis. Irregular on the other hand...

Figured I'd ask. Would have to be simple enough that a 3 year old could do it. Alright, maybe not THAT simple, but you know what I mean ;)

What's Your Favorite RPG Cartoon / Comic Strip - Past or Present

Looking over the SnarfQuest Kickstarter got me thinking about all of the cartoon / comic strips that have appeared in various RPG magazines - a type of magazine that is obviously a dying breed these days.

While I really enjoyed SnarfQuest, I think What's New With Phil and Dixie was more memorable with me. Sure, I like the art in Wormy, but the strip made little sense to me.

Now, for a more current comic strip, I'd go with Nodwick, hands down. I'm not sure if anything even comes close - but I'm open to suggestions ;)

Oh, honorable mention to Murphy's Law from the old Space Gamer mag - that shit was spot on most of the times ;)
