Announcement - Wee Warriors Comes to Precis Intermedia

You can read the press release directly here. - Tenkar

Precis Intermedia is pleased to announce that it has acquired the intellectual property rights to Wee Warriors and its products. Founded in 1975, Wee Warriors produced not only what is believed to be the first character sheet for Dungeons & Dragons, but also the first stand-alone adventure. Wee Warriors later went on to produce two more adventures, game accessories, and a number of small tabletop games, including The Embattled Trek and Labyrinthine.

Classic reprints of most of the product line are expected in both PDF and print formats, as are further development and new editions in the future. More information on Wee Warriors products can be found at the Precis Intermedia web site (http://www.pigames.net).

A classic reprint of The Vanquished Foe, a mini-boardgame, is now available in PDF and printed formats. With a low price tag, you no longer need to spend a fortune to find a rare original of this early dungeon-style game.

"As a vintage game collector, I am delighted to be able to bring back these largely-forgotten gems," says Brett M. Bernstein of Precis Intermedia. "These games and modules were created in a time devoid of today’s plethora of advanced software and print services. It is a testament to the creative spirit."

Incorporating one of the first electronic publishers of roleplaying games, Precis Intermedia is known for its diverse line-up, clear and concise games, and the return of vintage titles. Current lines include Shatterzone, Bloodshadows, Supergame, Two-Fisted Tales, Lords of Olympus, Man, Myth & Magic, Mean Streets, Warcosm, the Amazing 8in1 Die, Disposable Heroes Paper Minis, and much more.

Announcement: Osprey Games to Launch Osprey Roleplaying Series

I'm very interested in seeing the final products - Tenkar

ANNOUNCEMENT: OSPREY GAMES TO LAUNCH OSPREY ROLEPLAYING SERIES
Posted by Pete Ward on 19 June 2019 12:23:54 BST

Osprey Games is delighted to announce the November 2019 launch of Osprey Roleplaying, a new series of beautifully illustrated, hardback RPG rulebooks that transport players to incredible worlds and extraordinary adventures. The series debuts with two titles: Romance of the Perilous Land: A Roleplaying Game of British Folklore, created by award-winning designer Scott Malthouse, and Graham Rose’s Paleomythic: A Roleplaying Game of Stone and Sorcery.

In Romance of the Perilous Land, players take on the role of brave knights, fierce warriors, and other heroes as they fight evil, right wrongs, and create their own legends in Arthurian Britain.

Paleomythic sees players attempt to navigate their way through the harsh prehistoric land of Ancient Mu – a world where hostile tribes, otherworldly spirits, ferocious beasts, and other monstrous creatures threaten their survival at every turn.

Speaking about the new series, Philip Smith, Head of Osprey Games, said “I’m thrilled that we are finally able to announce the first titles in our new line of RPGs. We’ve been working with some great designers and artists on games from a range of genres, and there’s more to come – watch this space!”

Designer: Scott Malthouse
Illustrators: John McCambridge, David Needham & Alan Lathwell
ISBN: 9781472834775
Format: Hardback
Price: £20 / US $30 / CAN $40

Created by award-winning designer Scott Malthouse, Romance of the Perilous Land is a roleplaying game of magic and adventure set in the world of British folklore, from the stories of King Arthur to the wonderful regional tales told throughout this green and pleasant land. It is a world of romantic chivalry, but also of great danger, with ambitious kings, evil knights, and thieving brigands terrorising the land, while greedy giants, malevolent sorcerers, and water-dwelling knuckers lurk in the shadows. As valiant knights, mighty barbarians, subtle cunning folk, and more, the players are heroes, roaming the land to fight evil, right wrongs, and create their own legends.

About the Author

Scott Malthouse is a roleplaying game designer and folklore enthusiast who was born and bred in Yorkshire, where he currently lives. His work includes the award-winning Quill (Best Free Game 2016, Indie RPG Awards), In Darkest Warrens, and Unbelievably Simple Roleplaying.

Designer: Graham Rose
Illustrators: John McCambridge & Mars Oosterveld
ISBN: 9781472834812
Format: Hardback
Price: £20 / US $30 / CAN $40

Paleomythic: A Roleplaying Game of Stone and Sorcery, written by Graham Rose, sees players face all manner of challenges as they try to survive in the prehistoric land of Ancient Mu. Taking on the roles of hunters, healers, warriors, soothsayers, and more, they will navigate a world of hostile tribes, otherworldly spirits, prehistoric beasts, and monstrous creatures lurking in the dark places of the world. Players have a huge scope in sculpting the game experience that best suits them, whether it’s a gritty survival story without a trace of the mystical or a tale of grand adventure and exploration in a mythic setting.

About the Author

When Graham Rose discovered roleplaying games, he was hooked. He designed his first home-brew RPG in the 1980s and has continued tinkering with games ever since. It was whilst roleplaying that Graham decided to acquire as many of the abilities listed on his character sheet as possible. This quest has led to a wide range of interests, from archaeology to competition fencing, a career in the fields of intelligence and law enforcement, and has also resulted in him crashing a snowmobile in the Arctic Circle, enduring serious illness in Kathmandu, coming face to face with a silverback gorilla in Rwanda, and walking Hadrian’s Wall during a storm. Graham lives in the UK with his wife, Nicola, and currently works as a cold case homicide investigator.

Announcement - Frog God Does Stock Art (complete with video with Zach Glazar and Your Humble Bartender)

Here's what happened. I was lying in bed last night, playing some random game on my phone as I was preparing to embark on decongestant and antibiotic induced sleep when +Zach Glazar asked me if I was up. I could be if needed. Zach then said he wanted to talk art. I said sure.

I had no idea he meant on a YouTube Livestream.

I apologize in advance for any weirdness on my part. Well, more than usual weirdness. It was the drugs and late hour, I swear. Zach was fine though ;)

Anyhow, long story short is Frog God Games is opening their back catalogue of black & white art as stock art. First art pack went up last night. 5 pieces for 3 bucks. Those are the five pieces above. Its some damn good stuff. Here's the link: Lost Art: Black & White Illustrations Pack 1 (Commercial License) (and although the cover says "Print Use", it covers PDFs too)

Did I forget to mention... oh yeah, THAT big announcement for small press and hobbyists that Zach talked about in the video. Its an Easter Egg only available in the video, but its worth the watch, especially if you are a small press publisher.

Did you watch it?

Its an exciting time to be a small press OSR publisher ;)

Yep, that's an affiliate link above. Shoppin' through The Tavern's affiliate links keeps the taps flowing and the lights on here at The Tavern :)

Cubicle 7 to Put Out New Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay - Update! Also - Warhammer Age of Sigmar Roleplaying Game Announced

Before I do the news dump, let me just say - I own all previous editions of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (even that box that called itself an RPG but was really the precursor to the miniatures wargame). I loved running the Games Workshop version, enjoyed reading the Green Ronin version and really couldn't make heads or tails of the Fantasy Flight version Screw that, I simply didn't like the la. I'm cautiously optimistic of Cubicle 7's upcoming version with it drawing upon the first two for inspiration.
A new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will be launched by Cubicle 7 Entertainment later this year. The new edition will return players to Warhammer's grim world of perilous adventure, and takes its direction from the first and second editions of the game.
Cubicle 7 CEO Dominic McDowall said, "Like so many gamers I grew up on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. It's an iconic setting and I'm thrilled to be working on this new edition of the game. Our team have a huge breadth of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and I’m excited to be able to bring the Cubicle 7 approach to the Old World. We’ll be revealing more of our plans in the coming months, so subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our website!”
From the Cubicle 7 Facebook posting.

But wait! There's more! From the Cubicle 7 website posted earlier today!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Roleplaying Game Announced!
Games Workshop and Cubicle 7 Entertainment have announced the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Roleplaying Game, for release in 2018.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar is Games Workshop’s epic tale of heroes, gods and monsters fighting a desperate battle for the fate of the Mortal Realms.
Dominic McDowall, Cubicle 7 CEO said, “The Warhammer Age of Sigmar setting is fantasy at its most imaginative. The Mortal Realms are fascinating, highly evocative and hold endless possibilities for roleplaying. I am enormously excited to explore them with the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Roleplaying Game!”
This news follows Cubicle 7’s announcement of the fourth edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay for release in 2017. These two games will be independent game lines with different rulesets.

Loren Wiseman - Co-Founder Game Designer's Workshop - Passed Earlier Today

You can read Loren Wiseman's Wikipedia entry for a full account of his career. I remember him mostly from the GURPS Traveller line.

Cause of death appears to have been a heart attack.
