Unofficial Tavern Face-to-Face Hangout with JoeTheLawyer results in "The Not So Wondrous Tavern Chat Episode One" ;)

We had an unofficial Tavern Face-to-Face Hangout earlier today, which kicked off at the Compleat Strategist in Manhatten and followed up with brunch at the Faile Pub.

JoeTheLawyer, Judd Karlman (podcaster, blogger and RPG writer) Rach (my lovely wife) and I recorded the episode you'll find linked below over some fine pints of cider and beer. The waitstaff was on point (and can be heard on occasions making sure our glasses were properly filled).

Joe and I would like to do a similar type of gathering every few months. Kind of a "face to face" meeting of the local NYC area community.

We had a great time and we hope that shows in the episode.

Empire of Imagination - 30 Kindle Copies Sold Yesterday!

Yep, 30 copies of Empire of Imagination were sold via The Tavern's Amazon affiliate link yesterday. That is simply amazing. I'm sure more copies were sold today.

At $1.99 for the Kindle version of the book (at least in the US) its a hard price to beat. Screw that, its an impossible price to beat, especially for an inside look at this hobby's early history.

Some quick thinks to point out:

- The Tavern's Referral Rate at Amazon for the month of February went from 4% to 6.5%. So, it wasn't 8 cents a book sold that went into The Tavern's coffers - it was 13 cents ;)

- That 6.5% applies to all future sales for this month too.

- If you want to support The Tavern doing what many of you (including myself) already do, which is shop at Amazon, using The Tavern's Affiliate link helps us and costs you nothing.

The Kickstarter has about 5 weeks to go and it is already funded. Andy "Cosmo-Joe" Watkins has offered to send me a sample to review and I jumped at the chance. In the meantime, I'm backing at $50 for the Complete Tavern. I mean, I literally have no choice in the matter. The Tavern must be THE TAVERN.

I'm already thinking of a use for this.

State of The Tavern's Barkeep - Sleep, Sinuses and More - Oh My!

Sunday night I passed out before 9 PM. Never even woke when Rach came to bed. Got up at 6 AM, made us breakfast and promptly slept again until 11 AM. I should have known something was going on.

Monday I had uncle duties starting at school pick up. All seemed fine until Monday night, when I had stomach cramps. Middle of the night run to the rest room and I was simply up from 330 AM to 8 AM. Fell back to sleep and had an immediate dream that was so f'n real - I was awake 15 minutes later in a sweat. It was similar to being naked in front of an audience, but I was clothed, it was a con, and... eh, never mind. Back to sleep until about 11 AM again.

This has been much of my week. Normality mixed with seriously annoying stomach issues. I'm putting my money on allergies and bad nighttime post-nasal drip being the root of my stomach issues. This too shall pass.

Did I mention the allergies have made me extra dopey?

Good news is I've been getting plenty of rest. Bad news is it's been in 2 to 3 hour blocks...

If you have been trying to reach me and I haven't responded, ping me again. Sooner or later I'll see it.

Got up at 530 AM today. Probably heading back to bed at 8 AM. Wheeeeeee!  heh

Battle Tavern - A Work in Progress by Jim Magnusson

Yesterday afternoon +Jim Magnusson and I were bouncing some quick and dirty ideas back and forth. Less than 24 hours later, this is the third version of the work in progress that's resulted in that small exchange of ideas.

Is it a "Battle Tavern" or a old school Mister Softee truck that sells beer? Somehow I visualize the first ;)

Jim is simply amazing. And quick. Holy shit!

I'm looking forward to the finished piece more than you know :)

Reminder - The Tavern is Only as Good as Its Patrons

I don't have the time to scour the internet for RPG / OSR news like I used to. I'm not going to say work is killing me, but I've lost a large chunk of free time that I used to use researching / wandering the web and forums. It's also the reason the 'zine is currently on hold - I don't have the free time to devote to it at the moment.

Why did it take me a few days to post about the new Adventures in the East Mark Kickstarter? Because I didn't know about it until a reader pointed it out to me. I can't share if I don't know (and for Kickstarters, it also means I can't feed my addiction until you tell me ;)

So I'm relying on y'all to keep me up to date so I can keep you up to date. Or something ;)

Coming Soon to the Tavern - Video Blog Posts (Ack!)

I really have enjoyed Christian's video blog posts when he puts them up. It's probably because it's Christian doing them that they are so entertaining and mine will stink worse then my cat's litter box (which truthfully, doesn't stink much at all thanks to Feline Pine litter, but I digress). In any case, I've been toying with the idea of the occasional video post for a while now. Never discussed it with anyone, not even the future Mrs. Tenkar.

So, who tells me today that I should be doing some video blog posts? The future Mrs. Tenkar. The mind reading is just a little scary, but I also think she wants to get some more use out of her Sony Bloggie mini-cam.

So, figure yourselves given "fair warning". It's probably still a while away. I promise to keep them short when they are done - Christian's are always nice and short. Not sure if I can review a RPG in under a minute, but if it can be done, I'll find a way ;)
