Kickstarter - OSE Quest for the Ruby Heart Adventure Path #1

Old-School Essentials introductory module and comic book, Palace of the Golden Princess

It's interesting to watch the success of OSR Kickstarters after the OGL fiasco by WotC earlier this year. Wizards practically gave steroids to their competition, at all levels, by instilling a 5e backlash in the general gaming environment.

The Quest for the Ruby Heart Kickstarter for OSE is one of those Kickstarters set to ride the anti-WotC wave. Funded and then some within hours after launch, Preston has a history of putting out professional comic book releases. Quest for the Ruby Heart is his first OSE release, and it includes the first two issues of Palace of the Golden Princess. Oh, and STL files for 3D-printed miniatures. You get all this in PDF for 10 bucks or 29 bucks for print plus PDF.

This Kickstarter offers...
...a 28 page full color adventure written for the Old School Essentials system. If you are interested in seeing that 5e version of it, click here for a free copy.

I took the spirit of the original B3 adventure to create a femdom town next to a dungeon to explore. I went a bit further and created a world for this adventure, behold!

Humble Bundle - Boldly Go: A Star Trek Comics Collection

I'm finding a new love for comic books, as I can load them onto my iPad and zoom in to appreciate the art and better read the lettering. Yes, my eyes are getting old ;) It isn't only that though, it's the fact that at 55 I've run out of space for new stuff without getting rid of old stuff to make room. Digital comics take up no more space than my iPad does, for hundreds if not thousands of comics. I've been rereading The Sandman and spending countless hours in the worlds of 2000 AD/Judge Dredd recently, and it's been a blast. It looks like I'll be adding Star Trek to the list of comics I'll be reading.

18 bucks get you everything you see on this post, 54 titles in all from the Boldly Go: A Star Trek Comics Collection. You can spend less to receive less, and personally, I'm not all that excited to see Discovery titles in the batch, but maybe the included stories will make the TV series enjoyable, or at least tolerable. There look to be a number of gems in this collection, like The City on the Edge of Forever. What a classic!

The Return of Minsc and Boo - in comic format at least...

Looks like Minsc and Boo are returning. No, not in computer games but comic book form. Baldur's Gate will feature in the new Dungeons & Dragons comic book series from IDW.
Each issue in the series focuses on an individual hero from Baldur’s Gate, including fan favorites Minsc and his miniature giant space hamster Boo. Krydle and Shandie, Delina, and Nerys Kathon will also see the spotlight.
You can read more about it at ICv2

As for me, I head out to Day One of Jury Duty shortly...

Humble Bundle - Dungeons & Dragons Comics Bundle

I read some of these titles back in the 90s I think.

$12 bucks is the level I went in on, which adds even more to the bundle. Stuff to load onto my tablet for bedtime reading ;)

More Inspiration for White Star - I'm Loving Public Domain Comic Art

There is so much going on in this piece. There is the structure, the blast, the alien choking the life out of one "PC" and the other "PC getting blasted.

Oh boy. +James Spahn , you've helped create a montster ;)

Inspirational Reading for My Upcoming Crypts & Things Campaign - Sword of Sorcery Issue #1

Once I committed to running Crypts & Things for my lapsed gamers group, I decided I needed some inspirational reading.

Lo and behold I found the 1973 comic book series Sword of Sorcery, starring Fritz Lieber's very own Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser on eBay. The series only lasted 5 issues, and I grabbed issues 1 thru 3 (and 4 was thrown in as a bonus, so just one more to grab).

Denny O'Neil wrote the adaptation and Howard Chaykin did the pencils.

Not bad at all. I vaguely remember reading the original it was based on, but it's been at least 20 years. Yeah, I guess I need to reread the originals at some point.

Free Comic Book Day is Tomorrow

I know we are all looking forward to Free RPG Day, but tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day. It's a good day to remind your local comic book shop that you also play and buy RPGs.

I have a feeling Thor is going to be heavily pushed in any comic book store you walk into this weekend. Ack, I need to find some time to catch that movie myself.

Yes, I like comic book hero movies, I just don't have much of an affinity for comic book RPGs (or MMORPGs either - City of Heroes was way too much Running-Around-the-Block for my taste).
