The articles have a lot more "meat on the bone" as far as things that can be borrowed. The Knight play in a fictionalized version of a generic fantasy RPG called "HackMaster" and while some elements appear in both the comic and the eventual game(s) made, I don't think there is a lot going on except general entertainment.

Yes Hack Journal had lots of good stuff in it. Really cool maps and items.
