The Tavern Chat Podcast - E118 - Remembering 9-11 From One Who was at the WTC

17 years. 17 fucking years. As I finished recording today's podcast, I received a text from a friend that her husband was diagnosed with 9/11 related renal cancer. Both my friend and her husband are retired NYC Police Officers who responded that fateful day.

No bumpers this episode. Music didn't feel appropriate.
This is NOT a Kickstarter Round-up episode. This is an episode recounting my experiences on 9-11 as a NYC Police Officer. This episode is dedicated to Paul Benedetti - Husband, son, gamer.

  1. Thank you. I can't think of a better way to teach my kids about what this day is, what it means and why we shouldn't forget. Yes, it still hurts. God Bless.

  2. For most of us, 9/11 was abstract, unreal - images on TV, a knot in the stomach, a sense of disconnection, an interruption in the workday. To actually be there and face it head-on. . .kudos and prayers to you and your fellow officers.

  3. For those who may not remember, the original 9/11 happened on a Tuesday, also. I know because back then I was running a Tuesday night d20 Star Wars campaign. The utter chaos and turmoil proved to be too great and we, as a group, decided not to play, but instead to watch the news and try to wrap our heads around what happened.

Stay safe out there, fellow gamers!

  4. Thank you... I was in the navy overseas, and my cousin was NYPD in the Bronx that day. Strange to think it’s been 17 years- and a bit hard to explain to our son about what happened that day.
