What's Going on With the Gygax Memorial Fund? No Updates Since GenCon 2012

Seriously, what's up with the Gygax Memorial Fund? There hasn't been an update on the fund's website since last August. Before that it seemed to be nearly weekly updates.

Did we ever find out exactly how much WotC raised selling the AD&D 1e Core Book reprints? I don't recall a percentage or amount per book sold going to the fund.

Any info on how much the find has raised so far? What it needs to raise?

Is there a date when the memorial is going to be erected?

Is there a reason why the Gygax Memorial Fund site is still collecting donations but hasn't been updated in nearly a year?

Bueller?

If you have secret squirrel info and don't want to publicly post it, send it to tenkarsDOTtavern at that gmail thing. I'll scrub any identifiers ;)

  1. I confess I am somewhat concerned with the pattern of secrecy and non-communication coming out of Lake Geneva from Gail Gygax, not only on this but a variety of fronts.

Remember when Gygax Games was going to be picking up the Castle Zagyg project after it was yanked away from the Troll Lords? And the reprints of the Gord the Rogue books?

It's like she's holding out for someone to walk up to her with a dump truck full of money, and if that doesn't happen she's going to sit on the stuff until it does.

As a fan I'm concerned that Gary's legacy is being squandered. As a publisher, I'm concerned that Gail has been given really, really bad advice and is going to get burned in the end.

Completely agree. Imagine what could be done with the Castle Zagyg stuff. If handled correctly, releasing all of that material (both published and unpublished) could be one of the biggest events in rpgs in the last 20 yrs or more.

  3. Guidestar.com has the 2011 tax forms up now, and they mirror what I found in December. It's probably still too early to see 2012 information, since they may not even have filed those yet (extensions, etc.)

Have you checked their Facebook page? You seemed to be able to get at least a little bit of information there.

I don't know if we'll ever get the answers to your questions. I also don't know if this monument will ever be funded. It's a good idea, but I think Joseph's concerns are valid.
