What one person considers "gold" another person may consider to be junk. If you don't like it, get to become a big enough name where you have it in your contract that you edit your own works. Until then, understand that the term "freelancer" is exactly THAT. Someone without rights or privileges, working for little money in hopes of getting recognition as a quality writer.

It's the jungle. You'd better learn how to survive in it. I don't see this guy's career taking him anywhere in tabletop RPG's. He doesn't have the spine to take a hazing. It's all about his writing. He forgets that it's not his own IP he's playing with, it's someone else's IP. Race/color have little to do in this day and age as Content is King and all these major corps care about at the end of the day is the Color of Green dollara flowing to their bank accounts. Major editing of submissions is par for the course, and I believe this was PoC Gamer's first professional work.

Here's Louis/ video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzYY3eIuBhU&ab_channel=LouisPorterJrTenkarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05159289652051155824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-68753656706166233172021-04-01T19:18:18.276-04:002021-04-01T19:18:18.276-04:00I've read all of POC Gamer's two blog post...I've read all of POC Gamer's two blog posts and most of his tweets on the subject, so I can point out a couple of inaccuracies in this analysis:

First, the original draft submitted by the author was within the solicited word count (7,100+ words on a maximum of 8,000). The final draft submitted before payment was even shorter, at 6,900+ words. So it can't be argued that the author turned in an excessively long adventure. Obviously, the maximum word count got cut suddenly late in the process, and (I suspect) the developer/editor got stuck doing a clumsy hack job to get it down under 6,000 words at the last minute.

It's possible that the extra lore was outside the scope of the contract, but you would think it would say so in the guidelines given to the author at the beginning. Or that it would have been addressed in the early part of the process when WotC staff was helping the author to bring the adventure into compliance.

I think it's entirely possible that playtest feedback led to the dropping of things like the original mystery setup and possibly some of the extended lore. It's possible that DM's just didn't want to read through that stuff and wanted something more easily adaptible to non-FR homebrew settings.

Having taken a quick look at the adventure in the bookstore (so this impression may change when I finally get my own copy), it looks like the complaints about racism and colonialism in the final product are overblown, a little bit of social justice sauce to spice up complaints about the industry. However, I would like to know if there was a pattern of giving White freelancers more input than POC freelancers, given some of the past news about WotC's hiring practices. Also, it would have been courteous to tell him they had radically changed his adventure when they asked him to do publicity for the book.Kevin S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06076147424768269913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-4594731783884156252021-04-01T16:32:21.700-04:002021-04-01T16:32:21.700-04:00Editors Edit and they cut out the cruft and crap a...Editors Edit and they cut out the cruft and crap and get it down to a module of X words and could be used in any generic type of world with few modifications.

" Colonialist language and imagery" give me a break.
