Somehow I had gotten the impression that a Paladin's primary, most crucial mission, was hunting down and killing Evil High Priests. All campaigns were sandbox in those days, so I just ripped and romped around the Outdoor Survival board kicking over whatever rocks I could find looking for EHPs. That focus is a little narrow for mature, long-term play, but it was definitely fun, and still colors my perception of what a Paladin is.Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17820010482226879079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-43944722550488828992012-04-19T22:59:36.469-04:002012-04-19T22:59:36.469-04:00Flat, constant bonus damage against evil foes is p...Flat, constant bonus damage against evil foes is probably a much better implementation of Smite Evil than is present in any 3.x derivative I've seen yet... Might have to steal that one and graft it onto my current game. I don't understand why they'd want to do anything new and innovative in any part of the game, especially in approaches to iconic classes. DC Adventures for M+M3 did it right - don't create a fresh take on a hero, create an iconic version and let people argue over the fiddly bits. If you are going for an iconic Paladin, then you sure don't want to totally re-envision the class. He gets lay on hands and gets to call a horse at some point, because these are iconic abilities. You aren't going to unify the player base by asking them to accept an all new take on a classic.mtdesinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03826501692186095437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-48175981435061810482012-04-19T21:48:16.280-04:002012-04-19T21:48:16.280-04:00my new 4e related RPG acronym - Roll and Place on ...my new 4e related RPG acronym - Roll and Place on Grid

about the only real piece of good news i see so far is stepping away from the grid - the rest is a miss mash of house rules from various editionsErik Tenkarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05159289652051155824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-38061268856165440902012-04-19T21:45:08.344-04:002012-04-19T21:45:08.344-04:00Sounds like he's trying to justify that Defend...Sounds like he's trying to justify that Defender role crap from 4e.

Classes should be archetypes, not pigeonholes.Black Vulmeahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04270071699114783644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724254580047847936.post-33387376061313215232012-04-19T21:36:45.447-04:002012-04-19T21:36:45.447-04:00Bah, I have always hated the paladin for the same ...Bah, I have always hated the paladin for the same reason.
