In the "Holy Shit!" category of posts, Fantasy Flight Games has announce it will be releasing Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game 30th Anniversary Edition set - it includes the core book and the source book in a slipcase.
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to return Star Wars: The Roleplaying to print as a collectible set of two high-quality, hardbound books presented in a stylized slipcase. You'll find all the original game materials—just as playable as ever—and they're presented with the same graphic design and fake, in-universe Star Wars advertisements for the Imperial Navy, the R2 astromech Droid, and more.
Even the books' use of black-and-white, blue ink, and full color sections have been recreated, along with its use of still photos and concept art, some of which have been updated for this new 30th Anniversary Edition. Finally, the books come with a foreword by Pablo Hidalgo, one of the creative executives on the Lucasfilm Story Group.
Yes, let me repeat. Holy Shit!
It will be $59.95 when available.
Holy Sith! This was an unexpected but much-welcomed announcement.
ReplyDeleteHoly Shit is right!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Just...Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteFuck yeeesssssss!!! Surprising, but incredible news. $60 worth of credits (probably less knowing Amazon) has already been shot out of my blaster!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite RPGs ever
ReplyDeleteOne of the best supported RPGs ever. I'll be running this next year, maybe earlier.
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteOverall not my favorite mechanics, but we played it for years and there are some real jewels in there. Plus the art and setting stuff is second to none. The Imperial Sourcebook is still my gold standard for a fantastic Star Wars sourcebook.
Plus the core book has one of my all time favorite illustrations, where Vader and Ming the Merciless are standing in a garden together.
I first heard about this via a retweet of Skarka; does that mean he's involved?
ReplyDeleteNot to rain on everyone's parade but this looks like a reprint of the 1st edition Star Wars D6 game rather than the superior Second Edition Revised and Expanded. If they are going to re-release D6 Star Wars, I would rather they create a new "One Edition to Rule Them All" version the way White Wolf and then Onyx Path did for the WoD 20th Anniversary Editions. A "fully armed and operational" D6 Star Wars would really be an awesome product. Not sure what this version Fantasy Flight is making accomplishes other than pure nostalgia. Young people who buy this product would not be getting the best version of the game which is sad.
ReplyDeleteThat's your opinion, obviously. I happen to think the 1st edition is best.
DeleteI ran a long SW campaign, but using the 2nd edition rules. Never played 1st. Venger, what do you prefer in the original edition? I would love to hear more about it!
DeleteFrankly, with Revised, Extended, and Updated released by fans, this edition is a pure nostalgia-fest. REUP is a work of love and would be a great release.
DeleteAgreed, REUP is the best version of D6 Star Wars by far but, being fan-made, it's not something we could expect FFG to release. 2E R&E is the next best thing, IMHO.
Delete"Why 1st edition is almost always better" by Venger Satanis: an RPG's original text is usually lighter, cleaner, and, dare I say, more pure than later editions. That means less rules, less options, and less baggage... which demands more imagination and innovation from those playing it.
DeleteI also have the REUP version. While pretty, the heavy tome doesn't feel old school to me, but like homework.
It will not be as good as tge fanmade all eras starwars d6 book. Waste of money.
ReplyDeleteObviously a matter of opinion. This is the Star Wars RPG that sets the gold standard for me.
DeleteThe fan book is NOT legally available in print either.
Which is precisely the point: Make it available legally. I'm sure an arrangement could be found, given FFG has the rights.
DeletePeople's like for a 1st edition reprint is also, obviously, a matter of opinion.
I have a feeling this is due to the fan made Revised - Updated - Expanded, and how popular it's getting.
ReplyDeleteIn part. But, ReUp or not, D6 Star Wars has been really popular at cons over the last several years.
DeleteAnd, a collector's set is a good toe in the water. We might see a real effort to reissue, if this sells well.
Fingers crossed, Jeff, but I myself would not spend money based on such a hope.
DeleteI have the latest official rulebook and REUP and this product would just sit there to be shelf candy...
We might see this used to support the old continuity, while the new game supports the new continuity.
ReplyDeleteWould Disney truly allow that? Their handling of continuity... is a cause for controversy at best.
DeleteAgain, if your hopes came true, I would be very happy. Let's hope since that is all we have. ;)
With regard to which Star Wars edition (d6 vs. d20 vs. Saga) is the best, and which d6 version (1e, 2e, 2e R&E) is the best, opinions vary. Here is some various polling data I've collected on this topic: http://dicehaven.com/star-wars/polls-results-for-favorite-star-wars-edition/
