Holy Sh!t! The 2015 Gygax Memorial Fund Tax Returns Have Been Posted! (It Raised $566 in 2015)

Every couple of days I check out the Gygax Memorial Fund website in the hope of finding an update. I never actually expect and update, but I look anyway.

Today I see that the 2015 GMF ax Return has been posted. Does this mean an audit will soon be posted too?

Now, we were told that all of these expenses (architects bill sculptor's contract) and would be reflected in the 2015 return:

Lets look, shall we?

The Fund took in $566 last year. It took in $421 in 2014 when Gail was "ill". Apparently, good health is worth less that $150. BTW, that also means the Fund took in less than $1,000 over the last 2 years combined. That lack of support is not a good thing. It's obvious that there is little interest in actually reaching out to the gaming community to raise funds. The money is nearly all corporate donations. If you don't have the support of the gaming community who is actually going to visit the site?

$2,890 paid professional contractors. Seems small for what's she mentioned, but then I'm probably thinking NYC pricing.

Here's the Schedule "O":

Real quick - light on meetings, heavy on office expenses. Hell, they spent twice as much on meetings and office expenses as the Fund took in for the year.

Oh, and "C", "D" and "E" still aren't happening.

Between the three of them, 364 hours devoted to the Fund for the year and the couldn't choose something from "C", "D" or "E" to be able to say the Fund accomplished ONE of it's goals over the last SIX years?

  1. Why the hell is she even bothering with this boondoggle?

Instead of trying to do whatever it is she thinks she is doing, she should let the kids have the name Gygax and carry on the *family* legacy... it was theirs as much as Gary's after all, they being the earliest players (and play testers).

    1. The Trust and the Fund are two separate issues.

I address the Fund solely, as it is a non profit entity.

    2. There isn't enough money there to call this a boondoggle.Just miss managed beyond belief.

    3. The "legacy" is whomever Gary decided to inherit his creative works, which he granted to Gail of his own free will. If Gary wanted his other family members to continue with his creative works, he could have done so at any time.

I don't understand why this concept is so hard for people to grasp. Just because you don't like what somebody else is doing doesn't mean you get to nullify the basic facts.

    4. I don't touch issues with The Trust, which is a whole seperate entity set up by Gary.

    5. I know you don't but others are free to comment, so I feel at times a rebuttal to a comment is needed.

  2. On one hand they want us to be "excited" about the project and flood the City Council meeting with bodies to get the location of the statue changed, to send in more money for donations, etc. On a project that has languished for years with no direction, no promotion, by a group who told the Gygax family to get lost, and has pulled all of Gary's IP and published nothing the past several years. No thanks.

  3. So how much money did the limited edition 1e core books from WotC raise for them? Was it really that little?

    1. IIRC that is the bulk of the funds in the account now. Since then, however, they have only tepidly solicited funds due to lack of any sort of promotional activities or progress.

  4. Those raised a good chunk of change, years ago. These days they spend money faster than it is coming in and have no investment income or even bank interest to show for it. Its like they are keeping the funds under a mattress.

    1. Money market rates are still very low and they never received a lot of money from the book sales. I'm not too angry because it's not like they are actively raising money. Slowness and incompetency are not crimes.

  5. So, less than $2 per hour raised for the memorial. That's not good.
