Tenkar's Tavern - Offending Sensibilities Since 2009

Bryan (I can call you "Bryan", right?). You know what "offends my personal sensibilities?"

When the same thing is listed as both a "Pro" and a "Con." The OSR Focus thing? Strangely enough, that is the whole point of the Tenkar & The Badger podcast. Did you even notice the WOSR 74.0 channel listing on the header?

Lets see. OSR blogger is interested in participating in a podcast with a crazy Scotsman that is also a fan of the OSR. I know! Let's do a podcast about Pathfinder!

One episode in (with an unreleased Episode Zero and an Episode 1.5 that was a live hangout and is available on Youtube). It's hard to get in earlier on a podcast.

Fuck nuts! I suspect I'm about to lose my charming label...

  1. Don't get too bent. People love to be opinionated. Also I find easily offended people generally have crappy opinions entirely biased on preconceived and assumptions.

Don't let someone judge you by the very topic of your blogs. Keep rocking the OSR.

    1. Jeremy, I do love the excuse to rant for a bit ;)

Seriously, my writing offends someone's personal sensibilities? Simple solution - stop reading :)

    2. I come around and read the tavern about once a month, which is a lot less. I guess from your perspective that I made this personal when I mentioned that you have offended my sensibilities in the past. I'm sorry. It wasn't supposed to be a personal attack, only a reference statement about me. It was clumsy, and I hope you'll forgive me. It was never my intention to imply that I know you, nor did I intend to say your podcast is bad. So yeah. Let's be fans together?

    3. I am gonna add Bryan Mullins is a good guy, and I only know him as an OSR guy - so I think this is miscommunication here.

    4. I just meet Bryan myself (via Google Hangout for Gus L's HMS Apollyon game) but I quite enjoyed having him in the party and hope to play with him again. I added him to my circles immediately after the game and enjoy his posts that I have had a chance to read.

I am not aware of the situation except what has been posted here so just piping in with my own two cents worth.

I hope to give the podcast a listen soon so I can form my own opinion. Thanks for the blog and the opportunity to share my thoughts.

  2. Cons: Badger has no Star Wars sheets to hang up behind him for broadcasts.

Pros: Tenkar not afraid to let the word "Fucknuts" fly out on special ocassions.

  3. I would love to know where this is from so I can go see who I've offended! My inability to correctly pronounce anyone's name surely got some mention :D

  5. It wasn't supposed to draw any heat, really. I apologize if that upset you. You *are* charming over the air, but thats just my opinion. I never set myself up as an expert on anything. I'm looking forward to the podcast because of its OSR focus, but yeah. Thats just a thing. I never said I hated you, or that I don't come hear and read you. You're one of the central hubs of how information gets moved. We don't have to be friends, but "fucknuts" seems a bit rough in my estimation.

    1. Fuck nuts wasn't directed at you - it was part of the joke of me losing my "charming" label - not one I'm used to having either - my time in the South Bronx and West Harlem must be wearing off...

In all seriousness, what exactly does "Tenkar is generally someone that offends my personal sensibilities in his writing" actually mean? I'm not trying to be obtuse - I most certainly don't expect to have everyone (or even most folks) agree with my posts and thoughts, but I never expected to actually offend someone more often than not.

In other words, does simply reading my posts cause you to perceive that you are the target of slights by me? Because I've tried to parse this and I've run it by others, and this is the best we can get.

Trust me, you are not a target ;)

  6. Its a sloppy way to have said that I eventually tuned my level of Tenkar down to the point where I come and read the Tavern about once a month. I have never, once, inferred from what you've written either on here or on G+ that you were attacking me. I have gleaned from what you post that we probably don't like the same things, and we don't have the same politics, and thats really all. You've never *actively* offended me, or its never seemed to me that you were attempting to offend me, or trying to. So, I hope that clears that up.

    1. The Tavern is nearly universally apolitical. As 99.9% of my G+ post are reshares of the Tavern's posts, they are nearly the same.

Now, my comments on the G+ threads of others are another kettle of fish all together. But it is a rare moment when I instigate a political thread or post.

As for liking the same things? Where's the fun in that? Diversity is the spice of life, and without disagreement and challenges to assumptions, there is little true learning.

Some college professor I had back in the late 80's said that ;)

    2. Its very true that people don't have to like the same things, and I wouldn't expect that or even desire that out of real life situations. However, I don't really spend any time trying to disagree with or challenge people on the Internet over their personal views or politics. I just tune them out to get to the things I'm looking for. That's not a bug in social media, thats a feature...at least its a thing that has value to me.

  7. On being charming: Its just my opinion, so its of little actual value. The podcast had a lot of charm coming out of just a first Episode, or at least it seemed that way to me on a day when I'd listened to about 5 other "first episodes" over the course of the day.
