Post 4k - Tell Us Your Favorite Blogposts and You may Win a $25 RPGNow Gift Cert

This is the 4,000 post here at The Tavern.

Holy

Shit

I'd like to share the excitement and offer $25 of RPGNow credit to a random blog reader. Here's how to enter:

- Link BOTH your favorite post from Tenkar's Tavern AND your favorite RPG blog post from another gaming blog. Here's a chance to highlight what YOU like.

- Do this by 7PM Eastern Time tomorrow night (April 29th, 2014).

- I'll pick a random commenter for the GC tomorrow night around 8PM

See, easy as pie.

Good luck to all and thanks for being part of this amazing ride.

Erik

Yeah, I love it when you say nice things about my stuff. =)

  2. I'm a new reader, and I'm honestly not quite sure what my favorite is so I'll just pick one from recently that I enjoyed: http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2014/03/scaling-your-sandbox.html

And I'm not sure if it's the best or even my favorite or not, but I always think of this piece when I think of important Grognardia posts: http://grognardia.blogspot.com/2008/09/gygaxian-naturalism.html

  4. I've been lurking for a good long while and maybe I'm just a sadistic son of a bitch, but the whole saga of Mike Nystul's Amazing Traveling Snake Oil Show made me into a subscriber. It was comedy and tragedy and really really unprofessional of the man and you got the point across: http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/07/kickstarter-axes-anvils-update-nystul.html

From another blog, in this case nerdwerds, another look at the man. I dunno why the whole situation fascinates me as much as it does. But I really enjoyed the take and retort that was given to Nystul. http://nerdwerds.blogspot.com/2013/08/an-open-letter-to-mike-nystul.html

  5. I have particularly fond memories of the post in which Courtney at Hack & Slash introduced us all to the quantum ogre = http://hackslashmaster.blogspot.com/2011/09/on-how-illusion-can-rob-your-game-of.html

As for Tenkar posts, I have been a big fan of his posts that call out lame-ass Kickstarters that have not delivered! Thanks for policing the virtual world as well as the real world, Tenk! But if I had to pick ONE post by Mr. Tenkar as a fave, I guess it would be this one (Tenkar as Sherlock Holmes investigating the Dwimmermount debacle): http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/02/dwimmermount-video-update-for-13113-is.html

  6. The one where you piss someone off....

  7. I dunno - only rediscovered gaming about a year ago and the volume of DIY and self-published materials, game theory, and general discussion is pretty impressive.

That said, have some of JB's Random Headgear.
    http://bxblackrazor.blogspot.com/2010/08/bx-headgear-new-charts-to-gear-up-your.html

Here? Right... make us pick as you hammer out multiple posts a DAY sometimes. Since some people mention the haranguing of Kickstarters-gone-bad, why not an attaboy for one that you helped to push to goal, and made good on freeing up a great ruleset:

  8. Woooo! Congrats!

For yours, I'll say this guy, because I got a copy of DCC out of it :)
    http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/11/dcc-rpg-core-book-and-selection-of-dcc.html

For the other blog, while I love the stories out of http://ancientvaults.wordpress.com/ around the items and spells, I'll always prefer the stories (and creations) of taichara's Jie Chue, so I'm adding a search - http://hamsterhoard.blogspot.com/search/label/Jie%20Chue

  9. Choose my favorite from 4,000 posts? An impossible quest! But I sure did appreciate learning about your favorite RPG podcasts in your recent post. I work alone on art all day, and those gaming podcasts make it feel like a party:
    http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2014/04/the-dozen-rpg-podcasts-given-link-love.html

I was also struck by this blog post, which crystallizes my fascination with DCC RPG in this line: "The die roll is always a negotiation, never a prescription, and demands engagement."
    http://swordsofminaria.blogspot.com/2012/04/classic-experience.html

That podcast list of yours actually does capture what I love about Tenkar's Tavern—the "news central" feel that you have, and all of the links and information that you provide. Congratulations on your epic run, Tenkar, looking forward to the next 4,000!

  10. It could have been any of the posts that put Roll20 on my radar, but ultimately I went with an entry that pretty much sealed the deal on the then-upcoming OSR game would use Swords and Wizardry as its ruleset (http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/03/why-i-decided-to-use-swords-wizardry-as.html)

Off site, I gotta go with Jeff Rients' threefold model. Retro-stupid sums up my game style perfectly (http://jrients.blogspot.com/2006/02/i-got-your-threefold-model-right-here.html)

  11. This list by Tenkar has led me to discover a bunch of cool things:
    http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/06/the-osr-list-of-pay-what-you-want-pdfs.html

This from Henchman Abuse because the playreports
    are pretty amazing:

  12. I first started really reading this blog because of the Kickstarter reviews, But this post lead to me playing a retro-clone, finally:

So much stuff out there Iove, but this post made me stick a megadungeon into my still-in-development Dungeon Fantasy game:

  13. Congratulations on four thousand posts! That's a lot to sift through for a single favorite, especially when some of your best content has been the events that spread over a large period of time. "The Swords & Wizardry Appreciation Day Blogfest is Upon Us! Release the Posts!" works great as a representative sample of what I like about your blog:

    http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2013/04/the-swords-wizardry-appreciation-day_16.html

As for other blogs, right now I find myself often revisiting "Frankenstein Dungeons and Dragons is the Best Kind" by Jack at 'Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque'. Firstly, because of the main thrust of the post, but secondly because his stat names spell out MURDER HOBO (I'm easily amused by wordplay).
