Tell Me About Your Favorite Posts From the Swords & Wizardry AppreciationDay Blogfest

and you could get a $5 credit to RPGNow. Yep, pure bribery ;)

There were 140+ posts during the S&W Appreciation Day blogfest (140 that were captured and linked on this blog) and some major prizes going to "the best post", which is, of course, highly subjective. +Christopher Helton , +Matt Finch and myself are going to put our heads together to vote on that within the next day or three and this is your chance to get your thoughts heard.

We'd like to know what you think.

Add a comment to this post with a link to the post or posts that you think were the best of the ones you've read and tell us why. It's that simple. I'd like your answers by noon time tomorrow (April 22, eastern time). I'll randomly pick one commenter to receive a $5 credit at RPGNow. If the commenter is a member of the 2,000 Coppers Community on G+, I'll double it to 10 bucks credit.

  1. I liked Adam Muszkiewicz's S&W is the Rosetta Stone of the OSR. It resonated well with me as to why I think S&W is likely to become my default choice for my fantasy genre games:

  2. Nathan Irving's Basic Illusionist.

A full, and incredibly 'usable' Illusionist. The spells are top notch, and it's incredibly balanced with Swords and Wizardry Complete. This document made me want to play an illusionist.

  3. It's really tough to choose between these two:

The Other Side - Swords & Wizardry Appreciation Day: The Witch

Ilea Jacta Est -- A 20-Sided Look at Life -Psionics for Swords & Wizardry

Each of these converts a popular old school element (and they happen to be my own two favorite elements) to S&W. I think, in the end, I'd give the edge to Ilea Jacta Est, but only because Tim Brannan's Witch class is missing the spell lists in the post itself (though those are easily available in his The Witch, and the spell names at least are available in the pdf version he links to in the article), while DuBeers's article is usable as-is for the most part. In quality, they are both pretty damned awesome.

  5. I'll just list the blogpost that I saved to my HD :)

    so in no specific order:

    Basic Illusionist: http://secretsoftheshadowend.blogspot.com/2013/04/test-test.html

As you can see I prefer class post, indeed I made a class post - now improved with design notes (same class presented for the S&W Appreciaton day with explanation of design choice): http://d20d12.blogspot.it/2013/04/occult-physician-new-class-for-old-game.html

and all of this must be recovered as an aftermath post :)

  6. From what I've seen so far, and I probably haven't even seen half of it yet, it would be the two adventures at Hereticwerks. I'm a sucker for Hw's work in general, but both could be plugged into wider landscapes easily and both offer much more than they might seem to, not least through all the tables.

If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with Taglar's Tomb, for getting the funky approach to treasure and getting the desperate grubbing and weird worldchanging into the one small site.

  7. I have to go with Nathan's Basic Illusionist. Its amazingly well made.

  8. Too much good content to remember it all. Four that stick in my head:

Basic Illusionist @ Secrets of the Shadowend
    Psionics @ Dubeers Blog
Magic Swords @ Quickly, Quietly, Carefully
S&W Character Sheet and Thief @ Fear No Darkness

    1. "S&W Character Sheet and Thief @ Fear No Darkness" - Don't forget about the Werebear class. :-)

More generally, I actually just made a post about this topic (/shameless self-promotion), but another favorite was the Vespertilian (Man-Bat of the Moon!) over at Semper Initiativius Unus.

  9. all of it was excellent. Really enjoyed the Giant Warrior-King Zombie from theosrlibrary.blogspot.

And the Mini Manor, and Matt Jackson's several part post showing the construction of his dungeon and . . . ah, I'm not being helpful by continuing :D

And many thanks you you for kicking this off and organizing it.

  10. Here's another vote for Hereticwerk's Taglar's Tomb.

    http://www.hereticwerks.blogspot.com/2013/04/taglars-tomb-mini-adventure-for-swords.html

But I also liked the Mini Manor.

Basic Illusionist is was also great.

But also liked a lot of other stuff out there. And I haven't been through anywhere close to all of the blogs.

  11. I'm not fully done. Frick, I'm not even half done. My favorite of the first 50, however, is this: http://reverend-dak.blogspot.com/2013/04/swords-wizardry-and-firearms.html

Swords, Wizardry, and Firearms. I love how it fits firearms into S&W without new rules or complications, and the optional rules are clearly labelled. It's a beautiful little option to drop into a game.

  12. I loved the Basic Illusionist by Nathan Irving. I've always liked those sneaky, tricksey magic-users!

Of course ... it's tough to pick just one out of many wonderful posts!
