Frank-Con in July?

What do you get the man who no longer has cons to got to?

Thursday thru Monday. Five days. New unnamed con.

I have lots of questions. What about you?

Edit - I received this screenshot from multiple trusted sources. Looks like the joke is on me apparently. DNC weekend I’ve been told. Ah well.

  1. I don’t know, Eric. What do you think about all this? Will you be attending if it happens?

    1. Total Con in February

      Gary Con in March

      NTRPG in June

      Shire Con in September

      Gamehole in November

I don't think I can squeeze anymore in.

A five day, unproven con? 4 months from inception to implementation? That's going to be difficult to pull off

    2. That’s a lot of cons I didn’t know existed. I need to get out to more cons, too bad I’m on the west coast and those are too far for me.

    3. NTRPG is worth the commute from the west coast

  2. I haven't been to a con in years, but I'd go if it happens.

  4. I think its just a weird joke. About politics. Or something.

  5. The DNC is in 2020 in Milwaukee.

  6. Click the link. It is an announcement/article on NPR about the site for the Democratic Convention. It's a joke from Frank. Looks like Erik didn't check the link before writing his article.

  7. Erik you sucka! LOL Your friend left out the "link" to the con from Frank's post: https://www.npr.org/2019/03/11/702217790/milwaukees-the-one-for-democrats

  8. I think we're all missing the important question here: Is Gail attending?

Hack writers for Kotaku want to know.

  9. The "joke" was easy to fall for because it wasn't funny, not even vaguely humorous. Plus FM seems delusional enough to perhaps start his own con.

Its a great example of the droll joking of an elderly uncle. Frank is a bit of an out of touch old man. Convention accolades and special treatment has kept him feeling young and relevant. He's neither.

He and Zak Smith should start their own convention. "Deplatformed-con"

Well said. I really don't see any humor or relevance to his comment at all, and the outlandish amount requested in the initial Empyrea KS (and the way that project was handled in general) makes me question Mr. Mentzer's grasp of the current realities of the RPG scene. Starting his own con (or at least trying to do so) seems entirely plausible under the circumstances.

  11. It was a joke. Funny one at that... I mean the DNC is a joke by itself, so why not? lol

  12. Do we need all the derogatory 'old man' comments? Frank could be simply out of touch, the extra 'old man' isn't required. Have to start a Con for 40+ year olds... White Box only.

  13. I predict in the future, there will be a right wing con in response to all the SJWing. Is that a word? What do you think?

    1. nah. a convention labeled as such would only paint a giant target on it for people to focus on. What is really needed is the cons to ignore the outrage mob. Acknowledging them only give them legs to stand on for the next thing they outrage about. Ignoring them, cuts them off, giving them little power.

  14. I don't think that a person has to be "right wing" in order to not be a "SJW." But since this is humor with a grain of truth, I take the chuckles where I can get them. ;-)
