Kickstarter - Shadow, Sword & Spell 2nd Edition

I never ran Shadow, Sword & Spell 1st Edition, but I own it. It was a solid system. I just happen to be drawn to S&W and it's derivatives.

Shadow, Sword & Spell 2nd Edition is the latest version of SS&S. I haven't seen the latest version of the rules, but if it holds to it's previous release, it should be a solid system.

It's 10 bucks for the PDF and $45 for the Print in SC (plus shipping)

I'm sorely tempted, but I might just drop in at the PDF level, as I don't know when I'll ever get a chance to run the system (but I steal and borrow liberally for my S&W games).

+Richard Iorio II has a solid history as a game creator / publisher, so I have little apprehension when it comes to the completion of this project.

  1. I own Shadow, Sword, and Spell 1st Edition as well. I have never ran it but like what I have seen and read of it. Plus I like Rogue Games other game Colonial Gothic of which I own several of the books.

But I have to say, his pricing for the new 2nd Edition Kickstarter books is pretty steep in my opinion. $45 + $15sh&H = $60 for a softcover book and $55 + $15sh&h = $70 for the hardcover. Is this called the Monte Cook Effect?

Now I am sure the new books and system will be very good and I wish Mr. Iorio the best on his Kickstarter but when compared to another Kickstarter, the fantastically illustrated Trudvang Chronicles (also posted about earlier this week on The Tavern), which for $70 + $24sh&h gets you 6 hardcover books, a map, a slipcase, a GM Screen, PC sheets, and several PDF adventures, I would have to say, my money is going to the latter.

  2. Thanks for the mention Erik.

I should point out, that once you back the campaign, you get access to the text only laid out rules right away. The rules are fully playable, but still need a full edit, as well as art.

When I launched this, I made sure that I wanted to show the goods. By that, there is a product ready to go, the campaign is to help get it out the door.

As for the shipping, the shipping is added into the pledge. I should have made it clearer. I will do so.
