Kickstarter - DCC RPG 4th Printing (Already Funded and Knocking Down Stretch Goals)

There is just something about the DCC RPG. It's massive yet approachable. If you buy into the fairly random magic system, it's an amazingly solid game. The art is some of the most evocative in the OSR and the adventures work well with other OSR systems (so long as you are comfortable converting on the fly.) It's the first and only game that brought back that magical feel of my first few sessions of D&D as a teenager. It's familiar and yet comfortably different.

If you haven't checked out the DCC RPG system you really should, and Goodman games is giving old fans and new players an excellent opportunity to get the new DCC RPG 4th Printing. $40 for the new edition of the rulebook PLUS an adventure module PLUS free swag? If you want in, know is the time to do so. Backer spots are limited for the extras .

Me, I like the new Mullen cover. Damn it looks sweet.

Sure, it's an extra 20 bucks, but it includes an art folio and for the DCC completist, this is awesome.

Did I mention the stretch goals?

I just put the project over $30k, so you can thank me for the judge's reference panels ;)

  1. I am curious about why using KS for a reprint. Financial security? built in advertising?

    1. Knowing exactly what your print run needs to be is huge for small press publishers. If you try to guess that's a huge risk if you overestimate demand.

  2. Stretch goals. It's the same reason they Kickstarter Chained Coffin. It could have been released without a Kickstarter, but the campaign allows for some added stuff to take the book over the top.

  3. In the good old days, you took the money you made from previous editions and invested that in a reprint. This kickstarter stuff is out of control.

    1. Aren't most of those good old days companies out of business? Don't knock something that minimises good companies financial risk and allows them to keep delivering amazing product. KS something from someone with no experience? Well that's a risk.....

    2. The good old days are long gone and the market is nothing like it was in the 80's and 90's. In fact it seems like even when we thought it was it probably wasn't that healthy. These days publishers are being smart and locking in the sales before the product. Not great for the consumer necessarily,at least not without being very careful about who and what we back.

  4. It's actually win-win this way. Just need to buy a regular copy of the rulebook (that has now sold out)? Just wait until it hits stores and you're all set. Want a fancier version with loads of swag, pledge the kickstarter.
